Starting with Steel Phalanx

List #4: A.S.S. in I.T.S.

A.S.S. is focused on the attack. Because of that, and the elite nature of the force, it suffers a bit on two things that according to many is the pinnacle of ITS play: lots of orders, lots of specialists.

A.S.S. is a strong but pricey army.

What you’ll need:
Starter Boxed Set
Myrmidon Boxed Set
Myrmidon Spitfire Blister
Dactyls Blister
Ekdromoi Blister
Phoenix Blister
Machaon Blister

The List:
Phoenix, Myrmidon Officer (Heavy Rocket Launcher)
Myrmidon (Chain Rifle)
Myrmidon (Chain Rifle)
Machaon, Myrmidon Officer (Combi Rifle)
Yudbot
Dactyl (ADHL Engineer)
Ekdromoi (Chain Rifle)
Thorakitai (Forward Observer)

Myrmidon Officer (Boarding Shotgun)
Myrmidon (Spitfire)
Myrmidon (Chain Rifle)
Eudoros, Myrmidon Officer (Mk12)
Thorakitai (Forward Observer)

This list features three of the heroes of the A.S.S.; Phoenix, Machaon and Eudorus.

Phoenix is also known as Tohaa-bane. His statline, combined with the bonusses of a 4-man Linkteam and his long range Rocket Launcher with Fire ammunition makes him almost broken against any army that doesn’t do well against Fire.

Machaon is a wonderful doctor, and can give extremely good support to the Steel Phalanx casualties. Healing on WIP 15. It won’t be easy for you to screw up. 😉

The Dactyl is a new unit to the army, and she’s an Engineer with ADHL. Combined with a Yudbot, she can be at two places at once, which is great to save a Myrmidon team that got caught by a lucky Fire Template. Two Myrmidon Teams, two Engineers to repair O.D.D.’s in case they burn off.

The Dactyl is a Dogged Engineer, and she can claim objectives as well. A nice and affordable Specialist option for the A.S.S., and she isn’t Frenzied, so she can operate on her own without much trouble.

The Thorakitai fuction as Specialist support in this list. Both are Forward Observers, and both can claim objectives while the Myrmidons wreak havoc.

Thank you for this article. This is so comprehensive yet readable for newbs like me. Please keep them coming. This is teaching me the intricacies of list building for sectorals.

I am glad these articles help you! It’s what they are intended for! Enjoy your first couple of games! 😉 More to come!

  2. Thanks for another great article! I don’t see any mention of Ajax or Penthesilia, would you recommand against fielding them in an A.S.S. armylist?

    • Scorch says:

      Definitely not!
These lists are just 4 options. We decided to keep it to 4 because we could go on indefinitely otherwise. Both Ajax and Penny are great characters to run in A.S.S. (and vanilla too).
Personally (and that’s just my preference), I like Phoenix and Machaon a lot, and that’s why I included them in the list. 🙂 If you like Ajax and Penny more, go ahead and field them!

I agree with Scorch. Phoenix and Machaon are better first buys being overall of greater use in all of the variety of missions available to players these days.

Ajax and Penny are great at drawing attention and dealing damage but they alone won’t win you many an objective based game.

However Infinity certainly is a buy and play what you like game. 😉

You may wanna consider an update considering Dactyls came out as a linkable unit: a link of specialists is very order efficient at objective grabbing… although more expensive than a Thora link.
There already reports coming out of having them in the baby pool with a probot to reload those sweet Panzerfaust and Flammenspear
