Starting with Qapu Khalqi

List #2: Girl power!

This is a simple, easy-to-use and pretty flexible list, basing on the robust (and pretty) Odalisques to kick your opponents where it hurts.

It can be fielded in a number of ways – the most obvious of them being two Teams, each built around a light automatic weapon (Spitfire), which gives you excellent Order efficiency.

What will you need for this list:

  • Qapu Khalqi Starter Set,
  • Odalisque box set

The list:

HAFZA Spitfire 1 22
HAFZA Lieutenant 0 16
HAFZA FO 0 17
ODALISQUE Spitfire 1 30
ODALISQUE Haris 1 25
ODALISQUE Smg 0 22
ODALISQUE Smg 0 22
ODALISQUE BS 0 23
HAWWA’ FO 0 21

198pts, 3 SWC

Link to the list:

  • The basic writeup would be a Haris Team of Odalisques (Haris, Spitfire and either Boarding Shotgun or SMG – I’d be in favour of the Shotgun) plus a mixed Link Team of Hafza and whoever’s left from the Odalisque entourage, and al’Hawwa operating on his own.
  • Alternate writeup would be a full team of Odalisques and the Hafzas operating on their own (remember, they can’t form a Haris Link, and there can be only one Link Team in your force at any given moment).
  • Or a mixed team, and leftover Odalisques on their own.
  • Or anything in-between. The list doesn’t favour any of these, so you can decide on the actual layout when your models start hitting the table!
  • al’Hawwa is there to lurk in the midfield and jump targets of opportunity with his shotgun. He’s also your objective grabber.
  • Hafza Forward Observer is the another objective grabber, plus long-range Flash Pulse ARO provider.
  • The Hafzas, unless the situation calls for it, should keep away from trouble. Odalisques deal with problems with more grace (and better success ratio).
  • Keep in mind that this list lacks any really long-ranged weapon. Your Spitfires are good up to 24”, beyond that range their effectiveness drops quickly. Sniper Rifles, HMGs and a number of other weapons will be outranging you pretty easily. Still, Burst 5 in Active turn isn’t something to sneer at.
  • You have no Doctor here – whoever’s down, will stay down.
  • Multi spectral visor is not present – beware hard-to-see targets!
  • The Odalisques can choose between 360-visor and 6th Sense L2. Id’ be in favour of the 360-visor, especially for those in the Link Team (as Link of 4+ models does grant 6th Sense L2 anyway).
  • Due to the points cost, the al’Hawwa had to forgo his Assault Hacking Device, so you’ll have to deal with any heavy target the old-fashioned way: with firepower.

You miss the combination of Qapu Khalqi starter set, and the Kaplan Box. Sure they are a little bit expansive but they can handle most problems by them self. Form a link of them or just use the engineer or the doc and you have really survivable specialists.

Oh, there’s a whole lot of possible combinations in QK that I’ve skipped here. For two reasons, really.

First, these articles are meant as a way to show beginner players some possible list builds. Not to be comprehensive tactical analysis threads that cover all the possibilities.
Second, please note we’re trying to make the list budget-friendly. Especially on the low points level. A Kaplan list like you’ve suggested requires extra box and blister, to add to the 6 models already in the starter box.

If you want to use a Kaplan Link in your basic QK build, well, more power to you. Kaplans are a good unit and I like them too. But they aren’t the one right build possible, fullstop – they are just one of a huge number of possible (and playable!) QK lists 🙂

Two questions about the Holoprojector L1 with the Hafsa.

    1) After deployment, when you share open information about your models, you only tell your opponent open information about the model he’s disguised as, correct? For instance, if I disguised the Hafsa as a Jannissary, and the opponent asked what it was, I’d say “Jannissary with HMG.”, right?

    2) Do enemy models need to discover the Hafsa before they can shoot at him? Using the above scenario, would it go something like;
Enemy: “Shooting at your Jannissary with HMG.”
Me: “You need to Discover it first!”
    Enemy: “You wot mate?”

    3) If a model with Holoprojector L1 is killed, do I have to reveal that it was, in fact, a Hafsa or do I simply remove the Jannissary model he was disguised as and let him think he killed a Jannissary?

    Thanks!
