Starting with Qapu Khalqi

List #3 – A little bit of this, a little bit of that

A mixed list that makes use of the QK divesity.

What will you need:

  • Qapu Khalqi Boxed Set
  • Haqqislam Remotes boxed set
  • Yuan Yuan blister
  • Hafza blister or Husam Spec Ops blister (Husam makes for an excellent proxy for any light unit, and fits Hafza perfectly)

The list:

RAFIQ REMOTE 0 16
SHIHAB REMOTE HMG 1 25
YUAN YUAN SCCW 0 8
HAFZA Lieutenant 0 16
HAFZA Rifle 0 16
HAFZA Rifle 0 16
HAFZA Spitfire 1 22
DJANBAZAN Sniper 0.5 31
ODALISQUE Rifle 0 24
HAWWA’ Hacker 0.5 26

200pts, 3 SWC

  • There are two Link Teams possible – Hafzas with Odalisque, or with Djanbazan. I’d perceive the Hafza – Djan link to be more defensive, while Hafza – Odalisque one to be more mobile (not really more offensive, as the Odalisque doesn’t bring much to it save for an – effectively – extra wound and a 360-visor. Not something to whine at, still).
  • The Shihab REM is to be placed in a position providing good field of fire, and left there (unless you find you need its HMG somewhere else). It is effectively a defensive turret, and most enemy models will avoid going face-to-face with it.
  • The Rafiq REM is both a light, offensive model, and a mobile Repeater (and Sensor, and Sniffer deployer). The downside – this list has no hacker capable of using Supportware on the REMs. Still, get the Rafiq close to enemy hackable targets, and use the al’Hawwa to fry them.
  • Yuan Yuan is one dose of personified chaos. Since you have no chance to assist in Yuan’s Combat Jump, I’d suggest downgrading the skill to AD L2 Airborne Infiltration. You lose the ability to drop anywhere on the table, but in return you will drop exactly where you wished on the table edge, no roll required. Then, send Yuan Yuan after the target of your choice – preferably enemy Order-generating light infantry – and try to blast them. If he succeeds, great! If not, well, dead mercs don’t come to complain about their paycheck, and Yuan Yuan comes really cheap.

Keep in mind that being Extreme Impetuous, Yuan Yuan should be dropped in at first opportunity (using his Impetuous Order to deploy), otherwise you’d have to spend a Regular Order to stop him. Nine times out of ten, it won’t be worth it to waste your Orders on that.

  • The Hafzas will be making a core of your Light Infantry force. They are better trained than Ghulams and have a Spitfire – you can send them head to head with enemy Light Infantry, if needed so.
  • Djanbazan is to act as an area denial asset – find him a good sniper perch and let him block advance lines with powerful ARO. Also, remember that Yuan Yuan carries Smoke Grenades, that will block LoF for anyone who does not pack a Multi Spectral Visor L2 (like Djanbazan!) or better – using MSV to shoot through a smoke cover is a time-honored tradition in Infinity.
  • Odalisque can operate on her own, as a light attack unit – or join the Hafza Link Team.
  • al’Hawwa does the same as usual – disabling hackable targets and jumping stuff with his Boarding shotgun. However, he now has a Rafiq REM to help him in reaching his targets via Repeater.

You miss the combination of Qapu Khalqi starter set, and the Kaplan Box. Sure they are a little bit expansive but they can handle most problems by them self. Form a link of them or just use the engineer or the doc and you have really survivable specialists.

Oh, there’s a whole lot of possible combinations in QK that I’ve skipped here. For two reasons, really.

First, these articles are meant as a way to show beginner players some possible list builds. Not to be comprehensive tactical analysis threads that cover all the possibilities.
Second, please note we’re trying to make the list budget-friendly. Especially on the low points level. A Kaplan list like you’ve suggested requires extra box and blister, to add to the 6 models already in the starter box.

If you want to use a Kaplan Link in your basic QK build, well, more power to you. Kaplans are a good unit and I like them too. But they aren’t the one right build possible, fullstop – they are just one of a huge number of possible (and playable!) QK lists 🙂

Two questions about the Holoprojector L1 with the Hafsa.

    1) After deployment, when you share open information about your models, you only tell your opponent open information about the model he’s disguised as, correct? For instance, if I disguised the Hafsa as a Jannissary, and the opponent asked what it was, I’d say “Jannissary with HMG.”, right?

    2) Do enemy models need to discover the Hafsa before they can shoot at him? Using the above scenario, would it go something like;
Enemy: “Shooting at your Jannissary with HMG.”
Me: “You need to Discover it first!”
    Enemy: “You wot mate?”

    3) If a model with Holoprojector L1 is killed, do I have to reveal that it was, in fact, a Hafsa or do I simply remove the Jannissary model he was disguised as and let him think he killed a Jannissary?

    Thanks!
