Sarissa Precision - I smell Infinity!

by valthonis » April 29th, 2013, 8:16 pm

Part two of "Valthonis bought too much terrain!".

This was the second vendor I ordered some terrain from on Thursday April 18th (although one box I received for my birthday on April 5th, just combining it all into one review).
The box I got for my birthday was missing one of the two "Gantry - Walkway", those nice Sarissa guys were more than happy to send me a replacement at no charge, but I told them to save the shipping and just toss it in with the rest of this order.

So...ordered on the 18th and received the shipping confirmation last week (week of the 22nd). More impatient waiting... :D But then the glorious mail courier brought several packages of foul smelling terrain to my door!

Ok, I'm starting to get used to the smell of burnt MDF, but I think it's having the side effect just smelling like Infinity now.

Unpacked everything and laid it on the table. However, I did find it odd that the smaller birthday order had many of the same things packaged differently. Must have been to save space. *shrug*

This will certainly take me more time to assemble everything, so stay tuned for more updates, but so far everything looks good. Sarissa was very professional, everything was nicely packed and no damage suffered! In fact the missing "Gantry - Walkway", they didn't just send me the one replacement I was missing, but rather just sent me a new pack of two, so now I have three!

If anyone is curious, here is the full order list.

-7x Habitation Pod - Explorer
-2x Habitation Pod - Settler
-3x Habitation Pod - Settler (with side opening)
-2x Habitation Pod - Family
-1x Habitation Pod - Family (with side opening)

-2x Industrial Pod - Storage

Looks good, I've been very curious about them myself. Sounds like fast shipping, which is good to know!

Also, I notice you are in Appleton, WI. I grew up in Kaukauna. Fox Cities represent! Fortunately grocery stores here in California carry Kaukauna spreadable cheese.

Does anyone own some of this Sarissa stuff? Looking for ideas of how to have removable/openable doors so the insides can be used but not sealed shut or left open all the time.

Thanks!

Shipping depends on the time and location. I love Sarissa and their customer service is solid. However, shipping can suck some days. I ordered on Dec 28th, 2012 and didn't see anything for about a month. I corresponded with Sarissa and waited. Around February 13th or so, they sent out a replacement order. That took until about the middle of March to arrive. The original shipment is lost for good. That is apparently something they have experienced before. It is only around the winter holidays that this happens. A similar experience with Forge World many years ago leads me to warn people away from shipping overseas in December and January.

That being said, my first ever order with them was in July 2012 and it only took about 2 weeks. So solid shipping as far as I'm concerned.

My first thought is magnets. Take a small disk magnet (or two) and mount them on the sides of the doorways on the interior of the building. Then place another magnet to match those on either side of the door on the interior side.

Another idea would be to get a bar magnet, dig out a trench in the bottom floor where the door sits. Then, put a small rod at the bottom of the door (again, you might need to dig/cut out a space for it). This way, the magnets are less obtrusive, and attach at the bottom. Little more effort though.

Another idea is a bar going across the doors on the interior. This connects to something on the side of the doorframe. Think crow bar across the emergency door style. You could build little wood hooks (the side handles on the Dumpsters from Warsen.al would probably work well actually) and use those to hold the bar.

Otherwise, I'm not sure. As it ships, it's a pretty tight fit. With the lack of depth/thickness to the walls/doors, it's a difficult thing to pull off. Locksmith ended up propping his open and glued in place. I ended up leaving mine as they shipped, but adding glue to reinforce the seams.

Interesting, good to know with the holiday timeframe with shipping, thanks!

I was thinking magnets as well, but didn't know of a good way given the door/opening sizing. Almost worth picking up some other door options and having them magnetized.
Either that or leave them all open and have a "open" or "closed" token to indicate if the door is actually open. But that just sounds messy.

I've got the 4-way pod, an explorer, small and large helipad, 2x Silos, and half a dozen ladders assembled.
Still working hard! Pictures coming soon!

Valthonis, would you mind posting a pic of the large Helipad, maybe with a mini on it for scale? I've been thinking about getting one, but the dimensions on the website make it seem kind of small.

Most certainly! My cell phone is all I had for pictures, that combined with the MDF table didn't do wonders for color, but hopefully you can still gauge scale.

thanks for the pics!

Yeah, the industrial pod with a bit 'H' painted on it makes a better helipad, IMO.

No problem!

I'm nearly done with all of the Sarissa buildings and will be posting some group shots soon.

The warehouse with an H would make for a good landing pad, but at the same time the helipads make for nice little LoF blockers as well. :)

My overall plan at this point is a colony that is just starting to build up.

I envision the ground being covered in these pod style buildings, remnants of the initial colony, but as time has gone on the colony grew above the pods. Hoping to hold out for some BurninDesigns elevated stuff but the wait is killing me after seeing the Warmill stuff.

Nice so you are planing to cover your town with MDF. What will the rest of the inhabitants of Appleton say to this?

That's right, they can either adapt and play Infinity or be crushed under it!

I'm still planning to post some table pictures of everything assembled. But...I'm waiting for some additional pieces to arrive first.
Stay tuned!

What happened with this stuff? Do you have a pic(s) of the finished table anywhere?
