BoB Nachtpfiffels new Table - Ideas so far

by Nachtpfiffel » July 21st, 2015, 8:14 pm

Hi Folks!
Here I plan to posts my ideas and future progress for my next gaming board.
But first I have to tell you, that I will only start after the "Spiel" in Essen after mid october, because I have to finish a lot of other projects.
So you have to be patient.
Until now all my boards have been extremely modular, because I had just one flat surface and placed a lot of different terrain pieces on it.
This one will be different
An Infinity Player in Kiel made a table a few years back which inspired me to plan this board.
He tried to make a board that gives the players the impression that their forces are fighting over rooftops of Skyscrapers. Sadly the impression was not convincing, nevertheless it was a nice table.

The question will be if the reducing of possible routes (bridges are the only solution to connect the Buildings) will inflict the games played on it on a bad way. Will it be fun? I don´t know. But I hope so.

I will post tomorrow pictures of the method I plan to create an impression of deepness.

What I will need :
Styrodur- a lot
a new printer - the old one is not working any longer
Time - nearly two months but probably more.
What I have:
me and an idea. :glomp:
---
comments are always welcome- except from spambots ;)

I like it. I was actually dreaming of doing a similar scheme once when I started getting back into Infinity. The concept of falling off a skyscraper while engaged in black ops is just too good of an idea to let go. Too many action movies I guess.

How about big billboards? When I think of rooftops those immediately come to mind.
It does not matter if you win by an inch or by a mile. But the former is usually more fun.
The net is vast and infinite. Here's my little corner.

OK let me show yoo the results of my thoughts so far:
The way to create the impression of deeper Houses is quite simple but not perfect: mirrors.

As you can see buildings appear at least double the length deep.
BUT :didactic:
-when there are buildings smaller than the others, they don´t seem to reach the ground as the others do.
- Bridges will appear double
- you will see the reflection of the ceiling and surrounding players.
-Billboards might appear mirrored at the ground.

Nevertheless I hope it will look cool :toot:

I will work with (in germany called) Styrodur on which I will glue printed textures, which look the same from top or bottom.

Here you can see the planed design in a very rough sketch:

There are much more bridges that you would expect from skyscrapers, but for a good game where not only super jump troops might reach every spot on the table it is a necessary unrealistic element.

If you make it look like there's some sort of urban remodelation going, all the bridges become reasonable as the workers won't have super jump either, and as a bonus this lets you use construction yard type scatter
