I'm unfortunately going to have to bow out of the challenge at this point. I was enjoying painting my model, but I've gotten far enough behind that I've started dreading paint sessions. I'm going to put it on hold for a bit and finish it up later, when I'll be able to enjoy myself while working on it.

Thanks everyone for the motivation and inspiration, and I look forward to seeing all of the completed models at the end of the month.

Whoa, so many cool entries already?!

@ibanezmark: Stunning work! As other posters said - incredibly clean painting.

@Metr0n01d: Again, very nice and clean painting. But I think your sword needs a bit more detailing. For example, try to highlight the edge of the blade some more.

@Siticus: You are kidding, right? That big boy looks badass! My only (and minor) complaint is the base - it's so plain in comparison to the great looking Morat.

@Vorthain: Really nice work - love the green and white scheme.

@Toadchild: Sorry to see you drop out, your Anathema looked so promising.

I haven't been idle either and worked on the base for my ABH. I wanted it to be a bit more elaborate than the rest of my army because...well, competition. :D

As always, a How-To with all the colours and techniques used is available on my blog: http://kungfusedcreations.blogspot.de/2015/05/datasphere-painting-competition-part-5.html

Less than a week to go - I really need to find out, if there's anything left I'd like to do on that mini.

Yup, the painting quality is through the roof. There's a lot of good painters in this community. I'm impressed - very different from my local scene, where most people adhere to the 3 colours rule.

You continue to make me jealous.
My most frequent opponent mostly brings silver surfers. He's only one person out of 6 people I mostly play with, but 5 out of 6 games are usually against him as he has the most time play... :/

That would also count for me. Hac Tao is my 3rd painted Infinity model (4th actually, but I stripped Su Jian from the paint yesterday).
I'm relative new, but as you can see (at least I hope you do :D ) I take a lot of time to finish a model.

Anyway thanks everyone for all the compliments

Hehe, actually I didn't mean the 3 colour rule as a good thing. A few of these minis might be better off without colour. Drowning them in thick coats of paint, obscuring all the detail, is mont always better than silver surfers. On the other hand I understand that a lot of players prefer to actually play than paint, while I tend to prefer it the other way round. Playing a game with those minis is the cherry on top. :)

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with this as much as I should!

Everything is looking great, guys! I'll be compiling these soon into a topic for people to vote on. You have until the end of the day on Sunday.

Also, don't be afraid to simply submit what you have, if you don't end up finishing. Show off your hard work!

Stunning job on that mountain of a man!

That there, there will be pure wine and honey and sugar
Fill up the wine cup and place it in my hand

Re: Summer '15 Entries [Data-Sphere Painting Campaign]

Sure.
I took a midtone grey (a cold grey) and use that as base. Than I shaded it with a darker grey and blended the highlights with a few lighter greys.
Than I created a wash with Black (not a black wash, but a very diluted normal paint). I guess I made it 1 drop of paint, 2 drops of Vallejo glaze medium and 4 drops of water. And than I washed him twice, because I wanted him to be very dark.

In the end I highlighted the edge with some basic greys and finally white.

I hope that helps.

That looks rather flat, there, Mashguy.

If you have time, I'd recommend you hit her up with some highlights and some shading. Edge highlights work very well for heavy infantry.
