Kensei, the other Oriental Adventures Wargame

Rules:

http://kensei.zenitminiatures.es/descar ... lebook.pdf

Plays on a 4 x 4 board at the smallest level to a 6 x 4.

From the rule book:

PLAYING TIME: A Kensei battle lasts about 3 hours. Although it can take longer, it depends on the difficulty of the battle you want to play. If you have an appropriate place for it, you can leave the battle unfinished, leaving the miniatures in the same place and making any notes that are necessary so that you can continue the game later.

Dice:

d10s.

Also:

PEN AND PAPER: In a Kensei battle, you will often have to take some notes, so you will need pen and paper.

Designed with 2-4 players in mind.

Only three factions.

the Buke, the warrior class; the Kuge, the aristocratic class; and the Sohei, the religious class.

Battle levels: In Kensei there are different battle levels and depending on the level selected or agreed with your opponent, you will have a number of army points and different limitations at the time to build up your units and armies. Levels range from a little skirmish of level 1, in which we only have a some units built up from a small number of miniatures; to level 10, in which huge ~ 2 the wargame ~ ~ 2 the wargame ~ 44 45 armies are led by the Daimyo and built up by units with several miniatures are involved.

Fantasy or realism: In Kensei you can choose if you want to play games in which magical beings and creatures are involved or in which only human units take part. We will include rules for creatures and magic, which you will be able to add if you wish.

Units, characters, creatures and action points: In Kensei miniatures normally move in units acting in formation, with some exceptions such as characters, creatures, war machines or other artifacts.

So stuff is ranked up like Warhammer Fantasy.

I go, You go.

They have a few interesting miniatures, but overall, not interested in buying into a lengthy I go you go game ever again. I asked my pal who plays this game to pop on and contribute here, so hopefully he does.

*downloads and reads rules*

It's not straight IGO-UGO.

You dice to see which player goes first in each phase, then you assign orders to each model/unit (they suggest using markers of some type for this, because you cannot change what the model/unit is going to do). Once you have assigned all your orders, you can then activate units and have them move and shoot (but not fight in an assault, that happens in a different phase). Then the other player assigns orders and moves units. After both players have given orders and moved all their units, you resolve combat between units in contact. Finally, there is a resolution phase where you apply the results of combat, see if any units broke and ran, see if they were run down and attacked again, and resolve any morale effects like from killing the opposing general.

The models look amazing.

So this doesn't compare to Bushido at all?

Completely different game scale. Bushido is kinda like Infinity, small warbands, while Kensei is bigger battles.
