galleries

Guys try to get in a real gallery feature, like thumbnails organized, opening into fullsize'images.
1) personal galleries, these cannot be validly replaced with ordinary threads when long enough because of confusion and pictures lost between replies to the plog
2) particular miniature galleries, where anybody looking for inspiration will find that very miniature painted in 100 ways.

Are you thinking of gallery threads, or of forum gallery engine?

The latter won't happen simply because it costs money to host the pics.
The former... now that's a good idea. Are you willing to run that thread? :P

I am a proud anti-it by lifestyle, therefore I did not realize gallery format requires investment and cannot be done using free tools. is the money issue about programming the formats of the gallery that needs to be different from classical thread? because hosting of the files could probably go through Image shack.us - which is what I typically use.

coolminiornot is a gallery format example, personal galleries over there are quite concise. sadly it has become a dung heap of hang-up and looking for infinity related art in there is just annoying.

making a kind of gallery in a classical thread would require strict control, practically locked regime probably. here the gallery formats is easier as anybody can post into it and still it remains concise. let's see what can work.

should it be done this way? - instructions how to store in images hack, Pple send me the link, I organize the pictures in a locked thread with some very brief comment. this done by one (very few) ppl can work excellent in the end and result in concise collections.

Well, you pretty much nailed the reasons why we won't do it. Money investment for image hosting, time/programming effort involved in making a separate gallery engine, we'd have to introduce strict criteria for inclusion and/or moderate the gallery, and a slew of problems relating to free hosters (Imageshack probably being the worst I've used).

As far as decent image hosters go, I can recommed Imgur (retains images long, easy upload, engine went to the dogs recently and I'm not enabling cookies to check :|) and Xomf (image hosting and absolutely nothing else).
