Yeah, it was the Normans in 1066, after the Battle of Hastings that reformed the English from a Germanic/Scadinavian mix to a more French/Latinized language. 'Gethyld' (sorry can't find that symbol on my phone :D) sounds kind of Danish, which had a great influence on Old English.

Sorry, got delayed! Here is the late sunday update ;)

Image
1. Cut foam rubber, Worblas and sketched the symbols for ALEPH and the Asura unit.
2. Burned the symbols into the foam rubber.
3. Covered the foam rubber parts with Worblas.
4. Shaped the plates and attached magnets.
5. Sanded the plates and applied several layers of paste.
6. Atzilla painted them like he did with the calf plates.
7. Cut cerecloth to fit the bottom parts of the plates...
8. ...and glued it on.
9. Attached the plates on the suit. As you can see it doesn't match the gap, so I'll have to rework the shoulder part.

I'm really sorry to tell you, but I'm afraid I need to make a creative hiatus in regard to Asura 2.0.
As you know I really think she deserves only the best and I need to make a break for being able to do so. Rethinking some things and stuff. But I promise you'll see the finished result before the end of this year!
The Syndra updates will fill the meanwhile. :)

Yay, update! No apologies needed :) The shoulder pads look much nicer. I can imagine that getting curves in multiple dimensions might be difficult. You did a fine job.

Remember, this is a marathon, not a sprint, so pace yourself. Enjoy the journey...

@Scorch: The Danish influence was less vocabulary-- though we did get our 3rd person plural pronouns from them-- and more grammar/syntax. Configure your phone keyboard for Icelandic to get þ. Or just copy-paste. Same goes for eth ð.

@Errhile: Old English is also called Anglo-Saxon. It's a blend of a bunch of Low Germanic Languages (Angle, Saxon, Frisian...) and Some Danish.

@ Red Harvest - thank you, but I'm already somewhat familiar with the history of the British Isles :)

I just should read Professor Davies' book to get a more complete picture (that, and he can write absolutely exceptional books on history - the very best handbook on history of Poland I had in my hands was his God's Playground". Abd because of my education, I had quite a few books on this subject in my hands...). Ditto "Microcosm"... looks like I should visit my local library...

That reminds me of the fact that Japanese people still think of Dutch people as feminine, as the Dutch colonist learned the Japanese language from the prostitutes at the harbours. And since Japanese apparently has a distinct difference between female and male speakers/listeners, all the Dutch people in Japan talked like the prostitutes (woman to man, instead of man to man).

A curious fact that is little known here, but the root word for the Polish (and AFAIK very similar Czech, I don't know how it goes further south. To the East, it does not keep that root) term for a German - Niemiec - comes from a root word niemy, "mute". Well, while other Slavic tribes could've been communicated with, as they used languages at least somewhat similar to our own, those fellows west of us apparently did not spoke any language that striked the bell even remotely...

Curious: What are you using for the silver lining? It almost looks like it's simply paint, but that seems a bit simple to me. It also seems a touch raised, which is hard to do with paint unless you use a lot.

It could be fabric paint, which is not normal paint. It requires to withstand normal use and washing. And in some cases it comes with all kind of effects, like "3D" or "puffy" or "dimensional" beyond the simple things like glossy or sparkle or glow.

Suggestion: visit to an art shop and look at the wide range of acrylic products, specially the thick mediums. When you buy Vallejo Atlantic Blue, you are getting pretinted acrylic gel. Craft shops will have fabric paint.

You will be surprised by the "cheap" prices of big pots of high quality varnish from the art shop (cheap compared to 8-10 * small pots from miniature shop) or the generic things but no less useful from the craft one. Pretty much of the miniature products are just smaller pots of common products, or adaptations thereof.

Watercolor paint brushes to paint miniatures with acrylics... yep, from the art shop.

I used a pearl pen. It's originally taken to create pearls on fabrics, but could also be used to draw elevated lines.
Yes, it's pretty untidy because I had to draw it while it was on the mannequin. But since there will be the wig over the neck nobody will see ;)

Oooo... Really liking those bracers! The dark purple is superbly done and contrasts well, but not overly so, with the silver!

The bracers do look nice. Did you do some shading on them, near the pearl pen lines. For drawing the lines though, could you use some sort of masking tape to keep them straight or even or whatnot?

No shading under the pearlpen, but for the armor parts Atzilla first primed them gray, then preshaded them black where the ornaments were and then sprayed on the purple colour. All with the airbrush.
Afterwards I colored the ornaments silver with a brush.

I'm really liking that Helmet and Shoulder Pad!

Unfortunately, the Gem in that light doesn't stand out that much. I'm assuming it's a lot more pronounced in person?

@ Claudius Sol:
Yeah, unfortunately I hit the color too well. But you're right, it's less glossy and and a bit more pronounced in real life.

@ Red Harvest:
Mh... I'm really bad at guessing. Maybe 500g?
Yeah, Atzilla and I bought us an Airbrush. He for painting miniatures, me for cosplaying, but when he saw me use it the first time he decided it was best for me, him and the airbrush if he did the airbrush work at my projects. Since he's doing it really well I'm fine with that, even if it means that my costumes aren't 100% made by me anymore.

Well, if he is painting at your direction, it is still "made by you". Lots of famous artists had helpers do some of the physical work. The Artists still get the credit though, since without them, there would not have been the work in the first place.

The thing about airbrushes is practice. So, if you can find the time, practice with it, so you don't always need help. If you are so inclined of course.
