The new profiles will be going up soon anyway, as with the Yu Zongs.

Which to me just seems daft. I mean, why the hell not? They're an established part of the lore and game now and have been for some time. Its just silly

Because the book will only cover the fluff from before Human Sphere. ALEPH became a playable faction in HS, and Tohaa came in Paradiso. So ALEPH and Tohaa won't be included in the N3 book. ;) Not sure if it is a good decision, but that's up to CB.

Instead of "we have this books, but some stuff can be found here and here and here." I wouldn't mind about profiles not being in there. I use Mayanet or Army4.

Here's my take. I've been 'attracted' to Infinity as a game for a while and am finally 'putting my money where my eyes is' by investing in Op:Ice. I'm sure I'll enjoy the contained game with its subset of rules and small footprint...

... but then I need to be convinced I'm not entering into another disfunctional relationship with a games company (after my conscious uncoupling from you know who) before investing significantly in more minis/books.

If I'd invested in N2 rules and the two expansion books - sure I'd expect to see some continuity in my investment (as opposed to full compatibility) but as a newb I don't expect to have to invest ~£90/€100/$130 in three books. That's the equivalent of the backbone of my planned Ariadna sectorial force in models!

I am encouraged by their open support of the community and availability of stats etc online and have been looking at model states etc on army tool and Aleph on Chrome and Android. I like the sound of separating a fluff book from rules book (even GW managed that) and we already have a separate eye-candy book.

You won't HAVE to "invest" in the other two books unless you want the fluff and art.
ALL the rules, and ALL the army list pages are usually available as a download within a couple of months of the books landing.

Most of my local players started with downloaded rules and ONLY bought the rulebooks when they WANTED to. There' s no compulsion to buy them in order to play. Hell, you can even proxy to your heart's content when learning - and then while you are learning you can also work out what models you want to get.

I think that the comment by CB that the other two books will be compatible with N3 has less to do with the individual troop profiles, which are likely to receive cost and movement tweaks with the new edition, and more to do with the additional rules presented in those books. Meaning that N3 will be compatible with sectorial armies, link teams, spec-ops and the campaign system, without these this rules needing to be modified.

It's not unusual for troop profiles to be updated without the release of a new book, based on new model releases or issues seen regularly during play and reported by the community. So it stands to reason that a new book precipitates major profile updates.

Why not?

Time, probably. They're already taking THIS long to get out what they're trying to. Now try adding in another two factions.

Yeah.

I'm quite annoyed by the fact that the Icestorm profiles haven't gone up for regular use yet. I want to use that Grenzer!

I wouldn't bet on the icestorm stuff having N2 profiles. Makes more sense to me to have them only have N3 profiles. It's the N3 box, after all. No point in making it confusing for new people who pick up the box and notice there are conflicting profiles online.

I believe that the PDF release for N3 will have the new profiles for everything, including Aleph and Tohaa. It would be very bad business to leave two complete factions out of the new edition until the next book comes out.

Let me rephrase my wish then: I would like profiles for these units for use in N2. It's annoying to have models on the shelf that I can't use in regular games. Especially with N3 not coming out for at least a couple more months.

I'd just use the Grenzer as a Spektr and the Healer as a Moira for the time being. It'll only be a few months anyway.

You don't understand - I've picked up a new Ariadna opponent. I want another MSV model next to the Intruder. ;)

Right, that's a different story. I thought you were just annoyed you couldn't employ the figure itself, to which I think my solution would be acceptable.
