The JSA players are split but those that don't like the Raiden, really don't like the Raiden. Even when it wins them a game, like single handedly, they still hate it and complain about having to make Guts rolls because they play JSA to not make those.

The biggest downside on Raidens is that they only got Limited Camo, and no Mimetism! :didactic:

Easy answer, you love the Dactyl girl because I am all about that Govad and we shouldn't be fighting over virtual women.

That is acceptable; Tera Dactyl and I will be happy together.

I couldn't bring that up without then breaking this forums rules about swearing about the Raiden. Sure, its won me a game... two games, its still a *&%#!^@ piece of $#!+ that does not fit into the sectorial it was designed for. Nor is it useful after the first shot unless your opponent decides to mock your anger about the Raiden by rolling really badly just to spite you. :suicide:

When will there be more Tohaa units? I'm chehcking the site and I know it's a new faction and all, but they seem to lack way more units than others. I just started the game but am still interested in what will come next and when :)

Tohaa will get a Kotail in August (should be available for sale around September) it's a fast-moving cowboy with super jump and holo-echoes skills, which allows them to project 2 images of themselves, making it harder to hit them. The model will also carry 2 combi rifles. Ouch.

And if you don't know the abbreviations, feel free to ask! ;) Seeing you have gotten the starter, there are lots of useful models already out! :) You might findthis article a good read! It's all about Tohaa.

In my meta, for example, tournament competitiveness is completely irrelevant: none of us plays in any tournaments. ITS missions are rarely used - I think I played less than a dozen of them in 2014 season so far. And I'm probably the guy with most experience in the ITS missions in the local meta...

Because in most metas, ITS play dominates play styles. Even if it doesn't, why can't I think releases are lame because they're useless in ITS? Perfectly valid criteria for judging a release.

Last time I looked at the ITS rankings, ISS was doing pretty well. Also, for someone doing a whole lot of complaining about ISS in ITS when was the last time you actually played ITS 2014?

So Raiden for JSA is like Bao for ISS a unit that has fans and detractors. Now Asuka, Asuka is made out of 100% awesomesauce.

No Courage rolls eh? JSA players won't like the new Martial Arts skills.

Depends on whether CB went back and added Courage to everyone with MA2 or higher. Personally, I'm not too fond of the combined skills. I'd rather have all the skills listed individually.

I also pray that the Raiden gets Mimetism in N3. 28-33 points is more than I want to spend for something that gets blown away after one attack.

Go back and read the threads earlier in the year about my loathing of ITS 2014.

Whether ISS is doing well in 2014 or not has nothing to do with the crap releases Yu Jing has gotten since Paradiso...

Looks like a non sequitur to me, Guges.

You say the ITS is so bad you don't play it, and at the same time you say that ITS usefulness is basically the only quantifier that determines whether miniature releases are good or not worth a mention.

Not to mention the earlier putting an equation mark between yourself and the whole Yu Jing player community...

But... Invincibles... New tiger soldiers, too. Oh well.

About courage on JSA in N3: I hope they let us keep courage.

About favoring of factions: Carlos has said that when they release models of particular sectorials closer to each other, the hype for them builds up more and so they've been doing this in the last couple years. An example would be the higher concentration of Corregidor vs all other nomads last year. This year, we noticed a lot more morat vs combined general or Shasvastii releases. Now, this doesn't mean the other factions aren't getting any releases, just less than where they like the hype train at that moment. Between ISS and JSA, I think it's a fairly even split, though JSA is lacking more models I think.

I really think that release style is a mistake, although I guess they'd know better than I would. It's very frustrating to only get a single release for your sectorial over a year, or two years in a row. I'd be much more excited about each army I play (and I play several) if I know they'd be getting a few releases each year. And doing so wouldn't be impossible at all. It seems like simply ignoring one sectorial one year, and then favoring it the next year at the cost of another sectorial is a poor way to do things.

I think it 's quite odd that the Alguacile SWC package is not announced...especially after OI release, when new Players are looking to fill up their ranks.

( Despite that, I'd rather say that Corregidor is the faction CB got not much love for left. )

I guess its not much different from how f.e. GW releases minis. They do the focus on one faction than switch to another. Only with CB its not that obvious, because they still give something to the main faction at least.

Its logical that they sell more this way, but I am not sure if they really would sell less, if they did it equally. I mean they surely experience a growth, but it might be wrong to assume that releasing them with a sectorial focus, is actually what drives this.
There surely is a magnitude of other reasons behind it too. So maybe they sold less back in the day when they released the minis more equally, but than the game just wasn't that well established too, and the sculpts where of a different quality also.

Or its just plain simply, they release a good product that people like.

What I really don't get is, why they don't just release minis that are useful for gameplay, like more Chasseurs or the Combi Aswang! Those minis will sell how ever they look, and holding out on them just doesn't make much sense, no matter how you look at it.
The only reason I could come up with, that they really want to trick people into buying the subpar load outs first, which doesn't make any sense, going by what they do with the 3 month blister releases, and there philosophy behind it. (Bro-Company)

I guess another thing focusing a year long on a Sectorial, does make a visual coherent look easier, and it makes sense that people like that.
And for the people that like to mix it up, there always is the vanilla Faction too.

I dunno..... I kinda have to go with Guges on this one. You'd have to be somewhat naive to think YuJing's gotten releases with likes of other factions recently (and that's coming a PanO player  !). Seriously Yojimbo may be the first meaningful release since the CG hacker, and even then it's only for JSA players for the most part! I honestly feel sorry for YuJing players, for better or worse CB loves it's PanO and is head over heels for Nomads! Only recently have CA players been graced with some light! hell the only reason Aleph is seeing the love these days is the direction change from Robot AI into 'cute anime girly/heroic muscle bro' faction, since it's cranked up that line of sales (seriously where is the robot feel?, it's all tooo human...if you want cute anime chicks, you have allllll the other human factions to play around with, no need to ruin your only 'robo' faction fluff). Ariadna, Haqq and Tohaa get bits here and there to string you along but nothing, mind blowing (in my opinion) In the meantime, i'll just hope my new fusilier box (super useful by the way ) will carry on the awesome from Icestorm!

The recent influx of PanO and Nomad love might've been (and I strongly suspect it to be the case) influenced by releasing Operation: Icestorm. Provides for a lot of opportunities for the newer players to pick up a new and recent sculpt of whatever has got them interested in expanding. Makes perfect sense to me.

My guess is that they just have too many factions now to cover them equally, so some have to be neglected. Its just natural. I really believe they do their best, and its just one of those growing pains, they so often mention.

I still want to see this Caliban Box though, preferably before they focus on the Sygmaa and EI!

Re: September Releases

by MattS » August 19th, 2014, 4:45 pm

I understand the release schedule but its not the best, then again with a few exceptions its rare for a existing Sectorial to go an entire year or two with only one release each year, though that did pretty much happen to Morats. Right now we are in the midst for instance of a lot of vanilla Ariadna who in a year will be Kazak sectorial and it seems we'll get some USAriadna as well unless they surprise us with a French or Scot unit. It can leave certain players in the cold waiting for their army to get a release. Which is why everyone should play vanilla.

In regards to Yu Jing since Spec Ops came out two Gencons ago they have gotten CG SWC box/hacker blister for those of us who already had every other CG model, Yoriko who is not a top tier but second tier really good Dire Foe, Asuka Kisaragi, Aragoto Hacker, Hac Tao HMG and now the Zu Yong. Those are all solid for Yu Jing. The others people can and have argued about but as a Yu Jing player I've noticed there being months when I don't feel the need to pick up the new releases for the factions and other but over those two years there have certainly been some absolute gems.

I'm sure the Alguiciles SWC box will come out relatively soon. I wouldn't be surprised if its this year but I also wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't until sometime early-mid next year. They have a lot to release. Did you see all those dossiers and renders from Gencon?

I've got a Haqq-playing friend who has been pretty annoyed by the constant stream of repacks and resculpts they've gotten in the last year or two. Even when the resculpts look really nice, they aren't something he necessarily finds worth his hobby dollar. Over the last 2 years their new releases are, what, a Barid blister and a blister/box of Sekban?

Don't the Kaplan count? And every faction got a DireFoe. Tarik came with a new load out, and the Barid is a pretty genius unit, every other faction can be envious of!

Remember, CB releases 5-6 new codes every month, but they have 8 full factions plus sectorials (and Mercs, plus Bootlegs).

It's flat-out impossible for CB to release something for everyone every month without tripling the number of releases. And they'd need more sculptors and painters to make the masters, plus 3x more spincasting machines and machine operators. So we're talking about needing to double or triple CB's staff, too.

Probably more like quadruple - rare is the company that can triple production staff with zero extra administration staff. ;)

And you make a very good point. 6 releases a month makes 72 per year. There are currently 14 sectorials (counting Tohaa as one), which means 5 each or so per year. If you include vanilla, then you've got 21 'factions', so an even split is about 3.5 releases per year. If you don't count resculpts, that number gets smaller and smaller...

I'm just trying to point out that:
1. Yu Jing (or even non-JSA Yu Jing) is not in any sort of uniquely crappy position on the release schedule
2. Value of releases is very much in the eye of the beholder.

I think the idea that pan O is getting more releases than anyone else is... not true at all? here's the actual number of releases from each faction for the last three years. As you can see, they're pretty average. Pan O and Yujing actually got the exact same number of releases three years in a row. Haqq, Ariadna and Nomads are slightly above everyone else, Combined Army is slightly below. But there just not much difference. Pan O's releases have actually been pretty minor for years. Up until the Neoterra starter they hadn't gotten a box release since the Mulebots in early 2012. During the same time period Yujing has 6 box releases. I know people like to think there's some kind of Pan O favoritism, but it just isn't true.

Pan O 2013: 8 2012: 8 2011: 7

PYujing 2013: 8 2012: 8 2011: 7

Haqq 2013: 6 2012: 10 2011: 9

Nomads 2013: 8 2012: 9 2011: 7

Ariadna 2013: 7 2012: 9 2011: 7

CA 2013: 7 2012: 9 2011: 7

Aleph 2013: 7 2012: 8 2011: 9

As for Aleph's transformation... you do realize that cute anime girls have been that factions main theme since the very beginning, right?
