New 3E rulebook ?

by MARC C » July 15th, 2014, 4:23 pm

Do we know when the full 3E rulebook will come out?
Also, will a softcover version be available?

We don't know on either account. Rumors point to December, but they're just rumors.

As for softcover, I don't think so, given that CB likes to release the hardcover version with art and story alongside the digital version (free) of just the rules. I think it might be too much for them to release two versions of the same book. If it does go softcover, I think it would only be softcover.

December? That's too far from the starter box... We can't have new players playing with one set of rules and the older players using the old books...
I'm hopping for a PDF release of the complete rules in August.

My local community is anxiously waiting for these rules.
Many players who stopped playing a while back, but kept their models, are waiting to see if the clarifications and changes to the rules will bring them back to the fold.

I guess we will get more news during the GenCon conference.

My guess is that the Quick Start Rules will be available online when Icestorm is released.

Hopefully it will be plug & play with Human Sphere and Parasido.

This has already been confirmed with the original announcement. It will be interesting to see how well they pull this off. We'll have to wait and see, Gencon is around the corner so maybe at their Info session more will be let out publicly.

As icestorm pre-orders are due to be delivered at some point in September I'd expect the 3rd ed rule book to be out at the same time! Nothing else makes alot of sense imo

Paradiso was close to three months late. I will be shocked if I read N3 before October...

The quick start rules? I don't see how they could be.

I'm hoping the initial plan was to have it out at Gencon alongside O:IS, and all they have left are the final tweaks that caused it to be delayed. Meaning, we may get it late (though we won't know any better), but soon. :)

Has it been confirmed that O:IS is only quick start rules ?
They could put a striped down rule book like the PDF version in the box set.

Yes, I'm 99% certain the cover art we've seen says "Quick Start Rules" and the image with the contents of Icestorm on Infinity's facebook says "Introductory Rules".

Yeah, that's my hope too... but realistically, I'm hoping for a Christmas release.

I bet for a release during November, with ITS seasons now being from january to december a release for Christmas could have a negative impact on the 2015 season's beggining .
Lot of players may not have the time to digest and test things correctly.

Hmm... do we have a topic with leaks / speculations on the rules alterations between 2e and N3?

I will go nuts if they wait until October or later to release the full rules. I loathe the idea of being stuck with just the QSR for that long

I watched through the BoW vids during Operation Icestorm week and I can see that the new starter box will definately include limited quick start rules rather that a complete N3 "rules only" book.
I didn't catch it myself but did anyone else catch a projected ETA for N3 in any of the recent news?

Doesn't really make sense that they would put quick-start rules for 3rd in IceStorm, but then wait nearly a whole 3 months before releasing the full rules.

I mean, from a positive side, Infinity is quite complex, so it will give new players (and veterans) a chance to really learn the basics of 3rd edition before the real crunchy stuff hits, so it's much easier to absorb when the time comes.

But, on the other hand, leave too long a gap and people will get disinterested with the simplified ruleset, and end up losing interest, particularly among the veterans who don't necessarily want to walk through the tutorial and want to get straight to the big game.

I'm not going to try and guess as to when the big book will drop, seeing as a) I'm not CB and b)I'm not psychic, but hopefully some news will come out at GenCon, or, at least, they do the 'just the rules.pdf' when IceStorm drops in Sept

I hope so, as the O:I ruleset is:
1. simplified,
2. geared towards vanilla Nomads and vanilla PanO only. As a person who plays neither of these armies, I can't say I'd be interested in the stuff there.

I'm hoping that N3 isn't as delayed as Paradiso was. That was ... frustrating, to say the least. And then a bit disappointing when there wasn't a 'rules for creating your own campaign' section.

I doubt it'll be as delayed as Paradiso - that IIRC was delayed because of critical issues with the translation. I doubt that'll happen with 3E, since they made such a big deal about how it will be "natively english"
