Subareas for armylists

by Icchan » July 23rd, 2014, 7:58 am

Anyone else think army lists should be posted in a faction subarea and leave the general discussion/tactica in the main area?

Oh that would be wonderfull, I really don´t care about list discussions 90% of the time (because most of them end the same way anyway) so not having them spam the forum areas would be very nice.

I thought it would be kind of moot, considering most people ask for feedback in the faction forums.

But like the signature banners thing: if there's a popular demand for it, we'll certainly consider it!

I requested this in another board/topic, as well.

I'd rather talk tactics in the actual faction subforum and then talk "strategy" in another.

I've seen that done in another forum. It's a huge mess and many people don't respects the lists/other division anyway.

Certainly moderation would go quite a ways to fixing that, right?

Yeah, if you want to see people taking sides. And a battle over less-important forum rules is not a good thing to have. And I doubt this change would gain the necessary acceptance.

In another forum that I frequently visit there are areas for lots of different games and most of the game areas have subforums for general tactica, army lists, new releases, rules questions, etc... Data-sphere deals with only one game and suddenly it's problematic?

Suddenly the other forums start to sound more appealing than this...

I'm only saying that the attempts I've seen have failed spectacularly.

(also, don't mind my mod position, I'm not an official DS voice, if there's a consensus to introduce a separate army list section I'll abide by it)

And I've seen attempts that have worked wonderfully. Now, how do we prove which one of us is right?

Before I got into Infinity I used to frequent Warseer and Dakka. IIRC both those forums use army list section.

I never thought much of it, but when I started frequenting the CB forums, I kind of liked that all the tactics discussions were divided by faction. Made the other forums look cluttered in comparson.

I had been looking to add faction subforums to DS for some time, but never really got around to it (nor did I think that we had enough traffic to fill all those sections). When CB approached us with the move, adding them suddenly made sense and I was happy to add them.

So yeah, I kind of like having the army lists in their faction forums. Buuuut... like I said: if you guys prefer a separate army list forum, I'd be happy to oblige.

Lemme first put up a poll for forum signature banners. After that we can have one for the army list forum. Fair enough?

Seems like there's a fair amount of misinterpretation here. I'm not talking about removing the army list section out of the faction section, but putting the army list section UNDER the factions.

So it'd be something like this, for example Nomad army lists section:
Board index › Faction Discussion & Tactics › Nomads > Army lists

While currently it's just:
Board index › Faction Discussion & Tactics › Nomads

This bothers me greatly as while the army list topics are great for new players to learn about building lists and different unit strenghts and such, they don't offer much for someone who's played for over a year.
When I see new posts in the Tactics > Nomads section I get excited because I'm expecting to see some good insight on tactics or on how to use a unit or such, but most of the topics in there are just people asking for someone to look over their list.

I second what Icchan said. Each faction having a lists section is what I had envisioned.

A-ha! So a subforum?

Subforums end up as a link underneath their parent forum. Like so:

Would that be cool with everyone?
