Customeeple - ITS Objectives set

by LeemanRuss » February 24th, 2014, 9:07 am

Hi guys,

Figured I'd help the community a bit and buy a few bits from Customeeple and write a review since nobody else seems to have up until now!

I purchased the ITS Objectives set, while a couple of friends of mine bought some of their camo markers and the nanoscreens. I'll leave those reviews to them, but here's what I thought of the ITS Objectives:

I have some products from them coming right now.
But I am surprised about the crates. Do yoy have to glue them? they do not look like having connetors to assemble.

Thanks Arachas! I have a light-tent to take my pics:

(and a fairly decent camera where I can tweak the aperture settings and shutter speeds, followed by some work in Photoshop to correct the levels!)

Laplace: Yes, you have to glue the crates together - they're unusual in that they don't have any obvious connectors/overlap pieces, they're a more simple construction, but they're in no way difficult, and the pieces are so well cut that they fit perfectly.

Like a pro, huh? Nice.

Thinking about this for the blog. I want to put nice pics on it, but not every blogger will have the gear for it.

Actually, that setup didn't cost me much at all - The light tent can be found on Amazon for £7.99 currently (I think I paid about £15 for it at the time), while the lamp I use was a cheapy halogen bulb one from B&Q. The camera is the most expensive bit really, but you can get away with any digital camera really, as long as your lighting is okay, and you can always tweak it in Photoshop or some equivalent programme (free ones can be found here: http://gizmodo.com/5974500/10-photoshop ... tally-free ).

Mind you, a more 'ghetto' solution is to just use some A4 paper sheets to make a backdrop and position a desk lamp in the right place, which is what I used to do before I got the tent. (See early posts on my blog for examples of pre-light tent images).

Seconded. I picked up a light tent, tripod and 2 lamps from ebay for $35. They all make a difference in photo quality.

On the objectives, they look great! Cool write up!

I've seen some pretty decent shots on iPad/iPhone cameras with decent lighting. My own particular camera phone isn't good enough, so I use a Samsung EXF2 for my photos, but I've used lower spec compact digital cameras with a decent rate of success - the key is knowing how to adjust the levels in your photo editing software - that'll help even the dodgiest of photos!

Yeah, adjusting the levels is what separates a good photo from a great photo you could put in a magazine. But having the best light to begin with, and knowing the right distance to take the photo is key. Too close and even Angels minis wont look so angelic. A buddy bought a macro lense ad on for his iphone and gets some pretty cool snaps with it. I have a middle of the road camera, nothing special.

Then there is uploading an image. Bugs the hell out of me when I see giant or tiny photos. But the thread is de-railing, sorry! Photographing minis pretty interesting and indepth topic though, worthy of its own thread or even guide ;)

Well, I could do a little write-up on my blog I guess! I'm no expert, but I've managed to do things cheaply and relatively effectively up to now. I'm sure there are plenty of better guides out there already though!

Might be, though you will get better results if you get a point&shoot that can sit on a tripod for stability.

I walked into the camera store and said, "I need a cheap point&shoot with an excellent Macro mode." I ended up with an Olympus 830 (this was many moons ago). Think I spent ~$250 or so, tops. Pro tip: tell the camera shop that you're willing to take last year's demo model, they'll knock a big chunk off the price even though it's essentially brand-new.
“I'm curious, son. When has 'This might be a trap' ever stopped you?”
“Stopped? Never. Slowed me down while I load the guns? Every time.”
