Data Sphere Contest Feedback

by kidterminal » October 7th, 2013, 7:25 pm

Data Sphere has successfully run it’s first ever contest, but we here at DS wish to see contests become a regular feature. We would like feedback and suggestions on how future contests can be improved.

InGen wrote:Congratulations to all the winners :toot: , lots of nicely painted stuff. I will definitely be back for the scratchbuild :)

Thanks to the organisers as well, and I will leave a little suggestion for the next competition as well.
- Maybe a little longer time frame to get things painted/built in order to get more people posting in more than one category. I would also like to suggest that the closing date is on a Sunday, since I assume that people have more time for hobby related stuff in the weekends.

Thanks for an inspiring competition

Ditto to what InGen said. Deadline on a Sunday evening EST.

Perhaps more than a 3 photo requirement for larger contests, or for contests that have a larger scope. May I recommend a 5 photo requirement for buildings etc. One photo showing each elevation (front, left side, etc) and one photo showing an overhead view. Maybe let 3 more photos in as contestant's choice.

I like seeing the photos, so maybe that bias is creeping into my comments. Ah well.

What do you think about member voting to determine winners?

Prefer not to go down that road.

If you do I would keep your panel of judges make it an even number of judges and the final odd number is the community vote.

So you will normally get a nice clear winner by at least 1 vote.

The Judges did very well. Having all the members vote is an idea to get more interest in the contests.

Maybe a little longer time frame to get things painted/built

And less time waiting. First news about it were 3+ months before it took place, and then allowed time was ~3 weeks. Made it forgetable.
If not worth saving, is it worth rewriting? What is more, was it worth writing?

I apologize for that but the month before August I was in the hospital the whole month. It might have been best to push it back. What are your suggestions?

VisOne's suggestion about a single vote from the members in toto is good. Keeps member interest. How members voted would be nice to see too, although you may want that anonymous, or not.

Getting members involved to vote would be a positive thing I think.

No idea how the voting goes, but the "public" could act as another judge. Say every judge gives 3, 2 and 1 points, the poll would collect member opinions and then the first three get the points.

Sorry to heard about illness, but in May the plan was already to start by end of August, 3 months later, and end in September, just no exact dates were given. It started and ended in September, so the slip was minimal. Let's hope for next ones you need less time to organize, so from first rumors to real it's just some weeks. Also, "one man show"?
