The Warmill Thread - New year, new range

by Warmill » January 8th, 2013, 8:07 pm

Thought I might as well set this thread up now for all our terrain news and what have you. :D

Our next big release is going to be a corridor system for epic indoor firefights, we're going all out to get them released at the start of February ready for our first show of the year, Call to Arms in Reading. They were designed by our friend and are a rather genius little system, we've been working on small pieces of scatter terrain to break them up a bit and theme areas for scenarios.

I usually am not a proponent of the fiber board terrain so I usually don't have much to say but in this case I think this is really nice and am looking forward to seeing the other pieces.
Do you guys have an official painter for your terrain?

We do all the painting ourselves, Ed's staring at a huge pile of corridors to be painted right now :D. The piece above was actually painted by a friend of ours, we have a plan for a big setup where the facility gradually gets darker and more messed up the further in you go, just like any good horror movie ;)

This is what our standard corridor scheme is going to look like.

And this is a quick setup we did to work out if we need to glue more bits together. See if you can spot the lonely Djanbazan!

As awesome as this is, and it IS awesome.

When can we expect your appartment buildings to come out as well?

Current plan is these corridors for the start of February, then the elevated roads (which are basically done, just need painting up for boxart) and a couple of small pieces I made, then the second corridor wave (4x4 rooms, a 4x2 straight section and window walls), with the new apartments to be fitted in there somewhere. I've been back and reworked the apartments slightly as a bit of playtesting revealed a couple of issues with durability, as well as to make them easier to build and cheaper. I need to do an external lift/observation pod to finish the initial set then add engraved detail, so they're not too far off, it's just these corridors have taken up all our time since before christmas :(

In the meantime, Ed's been chained to his airbrush getting these corridors painted :D

These look great. I really love Ed's painting. IMO you need some more blocking terrain. Perhaps computer terminals attached to the corridor walls or free standing kiosks.

Thats my main thought at the minute too. I'm planning on getting a bit of it to use on a normal table as the entrance to a base, with external terrain also in use as the surrounding envrionment. Then see about getting some more later, dependent on how much £££ it'll set me back.

I love it. This is much better than the BugHunt Kickstarter terrain. I prefer this sloping outward walls to the sloping inward.

One recommendation though. Would you consider an Infinity specific accessory set for the walls.

I'm a huge stickler for cover opportunities without having to place a ton of small items. Some kind wall attachable features. Not for every corridor, but a few to go around.

Aside from that, the design is great. Still lots of room for gamer customization. One could run pipe work on the upper portions of the bulkheads, add in consoles and terminals here and there while still affording great access and wide viewing. The fact that these corridors an mate up to each other in the exterior walls maximizes game surface area. The bug hunt terrain does not.

Plus, the super modular building options are fabulous.

I love this terrain. When is it available? I want to build a table of this for GenCon!

Hopefully Ed'll have finished painting the glamour set this weekend and we can get these things up officially for sale! Answering a couple of questions:

1) prices have been calculated, they'll be revealed when the kits are up for sale but rest assured we're well aware that cost is a big factor when it comes to filling a board with this stuff so we've tried hard to keep it affordable.
2) the big kit render up there is 3x3', so if you want a 4x4 one of those kits plus a couple of expansions'll do ya
3) we have 5 stand-alone room variants ready and a little corner platform piece that lets you build great big open rooms from t-junctions, corners and 4-ways by replacing some of the upright pillars
4) we have a small stackable crate set ready that can be empty or have an MDF box to fill it and block LOS, they're almost like crate lego :D
5) Ed's also done up a load of resin bits to either go inside the crates or be used as standalone bits, as well a range of panels to glue to the walls, but we won't have the moulds done until next month
6) we're trying very hard to offer free worldwide postage for a limited time, cos we know it's a big consideration!

You're missing the point. "Too expensive to fill a table with" and "shipping's too costly" are but lame excuses we tell ourselves to put off the inevitable buying off ALL THIS AWESOMENESS.

But free shipping would help. Definitely.

The "Body Swop Chop Shop" on your blog is super cool. especially the signs. Don't be afraid to post stuff like that here. Nomad players will eat that stuff up. Do you sell the signs as a separate set? If so what would that run?

The £184 deal looks like the best one for me, when I get some spare float.

The Chop Shop will be out next month once Ed's recovered from painting all the corridors enough to pick up his airbrush again :D There's 3 variants of it.

The building in that photo is the original prototype, after a few games I've since gone back and modified the design a bit to make it a bit less fiddly to build and am making up some more components for it, but it will be out in the next couple of months! If time allows I might get a couple of undetailed ones made for the Heavy Brigade tourney.
