Can one every truly have "enough"?

If your answer is "yes" than you're doing it wrong. :cop:

So I tried my hand at demoing again. Posted locally that I would happily demo Infinity if people were interested.
Got some interest from a local guy, never met him. Setup a time and place and planned to meet up.

Hauled my stuff over there and waited. Never showed. But one of the 40k players was nice enough to mention how fun the game looked, considering no one else apparently wanted to play it...

Come to find out later, that guy was the one that setup the demo with me... :suicide:
Guess he was just trolling me.

Needless to say I'm beyond shocked. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong here...

I've done a few demos. It's not all fun and games.
Some players are just trolls. You just have to learn to not let them get your goat. :D (See what I did there?)

You gotta take the bad with the good.

I had a friend turn up for moral support for my last one. So I wouldn't be there alone and we could talk while I waited.
That one guy who asked me for a demo, got it, won it through his own efforts, and liked it enough that he will be getting into it.
I've passed him onto his local club player now and they can get their own little club enclave started.

Yup, I got tired of demoing to folks that just wanted to use the time to talk about how amazing 5th Ed 40k was.
If they started in about 40k and wouldn't shut up about it, I'd just start packing my stuff up and when they asked, "What the hell man?" I'd reply, "When you're ready for an Infinity demo, call me. Don't waste my time with your 40k hard-on talk."

This happened about 8 times while I was living in MI. Most of them turned out to be just trolls. 1 guy apologized and said, "I'm sorry I didn't realize I was talking so much about 40k."
he promised and did stop talking about it, but he still had no interest in Infinity. He just wanted to convince himself that Infinity wasn't a game for him.
They experience the ARO or confirm how ramboing is an actuality something that can be done and then immediately write the game off as flawed or stupid and then ironically return to their game where bullets magically disappear after 12" and grass is considered cover.

You're not doing anything wrong here. Don't be shock at how much of an asshole a person can be, you'll spend the rest of your life in a constant state of shock. Keep in mind that every time you bring your stuff and set up a game you're exposing everyone in sight to the magic of Infinity. Sooner or later the magic will ensnare someone.

Keep your chin up I know this feels like you lost the battle but you can win the war.

In Madison they play at pegasus ( from what the manager said) and occasionally at last square. Sadly I'm 1.5 hours on the other side of Madison from you bat the moment.

Don't give up hope, new people fall in love with infinity everyday. The biggest hurdle is getting the local store to stock the models.

I think the play area at Pegasus is in the back room, I haven't played there personally but the last time I was up there they were having an Xwing Tournament in there.

Just a couple of my thoughts.

I am new to the hobby and came from boardgame gaming, so when I first were introduced to a game of 40k I was overwhelmed and lost interest in it, especially that people showing it to me were a little bit over enthusiastic about it, talking about stats, their army composition, and fluff but what struck me was that I was excluded almost from every conversation 'cause I had no clue what they were talking about. I can image that when you are invested in a setting like this, you don't want to go thru all the stuff again and learn another game.

What happened next, one of the club members seeing that they lost me showed me infinity, and it was realy bare bones, 100 maybe 120 points, no fancy units except one hmg, he set 3" x 3" table realy nice looking, he had all tokens, all templates etc. but the most important for me was that he had quick start rules printed, and a quick cheat sheet and army lists ready, he explained benefits of different weapons, tactical advantages of cover and reactions, and we were playing in about 10 min. I picked up the rest pretty fast and it was a close battle, we had a couple of games like this (it usually took us 20-30 min), and then he showed me rulebook and talked about more advance stuff, why the game is different than others and how accessible it is price wise. He adviced me to pick a starter box and help if I'll run into some problems putting them together.

I've picked up Yu Jing and can't wait next club meeting :)

My advice:

wait for concept art book, people like eye candy.

Build your own terrain, I just have ISS starter, kuang shi, celestial guards and Su jian, but even that will give me great flexibility, I am not gonna buy anything until I'll paint it all (it goes painfully slows) but seeing how crucial terrain is I've ordered some bandua mdf buildings, they stack one on another and store like babushka dolls. Sell some miniatures if you need cash for this project.

Watch http://youtu.be/AQk1xLOFl6Y this guy talk with sense about demoying.

Have you heard about Vassal? You can play infinity online http://www.vassalengine.org/

Thanks!

Actually I do have a good update, posted separately as well, I'll be running about 12 hours of demos in Oct in Appleton at Gnome Games.
They're having a "Mini Con" for wargaming. Can't wait!

What you're describing for your first game is sort of what I'm planning to do for demos. Low key, printed lists to hand out, printed quick start rules, etc.

Great, have fun, and good luck.

anyway, I checked module for Infinity on Vassal and it looks promissing, I wonder why nobody is using it, I saw only 3 users past week. If only my laptop wasn't falling apart maybe I would consider playing over net, but I can't even connect a mic anylonger :| Need to upgrade it but I don't have the money atm.

It would be great if CB had some kind of database with users, that would show people playing Infinity in your area, on a map or something.

Go to the last page and look? Basically it's a giant copy and paste thread. You copy the whole list and add yourself and then post it.

I think it's more of a vicious cycle of "We don't like him but he plays the same game we all play" sort of thing.

Hmmm.. I think I've said this before somewhere, but I might have just thought about saying it. We have a pretty awesome crew up here so I can't say I can directly relate, BUT if you have a fully functioning force for every sectorial - if you keep two of them, and sell the rest for cheap ($75) to a few of your Warhammer buddies, then they will have a force they can play with, and then they don't have an excuse. Offer to paint them for free, and sweeten the deal (ie. Beer and bbq at my place!).

Just a thought. I hope it helps!

Ha, if I try to sell them to any of the 40k players around here they'd turn around and email them off for profit towards 40k.

Well fate seems to decide our journeys for us at times. We decided to get a puppy this year and do some needed house repairs this year, which in itself is perfectly fine, but come to find out the IRS caught us for a typo in our taxes 4 years ago. Simple mistake sure and we'll correct it, but the combination of the typo and sudden 4 years of interest (yes apparently they can do that) is a bit more than we can handle at the moment.

So I'm selling off the armies I'm least likely to get around to playing. Keeping at least two so my sons and I can play.
Sure it's sad, but on the other hand, family is priority.

First off, PanOceania, hope I'm my asking prices seem reasonable. Also, if you're interested in one that is not PanO, let me know via PM, perhaps we can work a deal. Thanks
