Questions about the Decapitation I.T.S. scenario

by UCanCallMeAl » November 11th, 2016, 1:36 am

I was watching my friends play the Decapitation I.T.S. scenario the other day and a question came up when it came time to calculate the final score.

At some point in the game player A got a shot at player B’s lieutenant, sending him into unconsciousness. On his next active turn, player B chooses another lieutenant and then uses his doctor to bring back his previous lieutenant to active duty. The game ends with no other lieutenants dying or falling unconscious on either side.

My first thought was that player A scored 3 points because he has killed more lieutenant than player B, but then I read the following paragraph.
KILLING
A trooper is considered Killed when he enters Dead state, or is in a Null state at the end of the game.
Troopers that have not been deployed on the game table at the end of the game will be considered to be Killed by the adversary.

While player B’s first lieutenant fell unconscious during the game, he was not dead nor was he in a null state when the game ended. Does this mean player A would not score any points from lieutenant kills?

We ended up counting it as a kill anyway, but that last paragraph makes me believe it should not have counted.

I would love to know how others have ruled it.

Also about scoring, the rules say you get 2 objective points for killing the same amount of lieutenants. So if both players kill 0 lieutenants, do they both get 2 points? I realise this would not affect the games outcome, but i'm still curious about it. In other scenarios like Supremacy it clearly states you need to dominate at least one Quadrant to get the points so I wonder if this was forgotten or left out on purpose.

Anyway, let me know what you guys think and thanks for the help.

Just as you said: the Lt wasn't Dead, and wasn't Null at the game end.
No points for a Lt kill then.

I can verify that this is how it was played at GenCon. As one of my final orders in the bottom of Turn 3, I used Regeneration on my Asawira Lt that had been killed in Turn 2, thus depriving my opponent of the points. We confirmed it with the TO and he agreed.

Guys, guys!

Note the difference between "Unconscious" and "Dead" - these two are both Null states, but there is an essential difference: "Unconscious" is reversible. "Dead" is not.

Munin, the Asawira Lt. from your example wasn't killed. He was wounded and put unconscious...

That was exactly my point. He was not killed, so my opponent did not get the points.
