Episode sixteen, "It Never Rains On Avalon...", in which things don't really get any better, should be coming no later than... In about a month? Maybe?

Yup, it's been a journey, alright.

Never a bad thing, more motorcycles, right?

And to be fair to the guy, he can't really help it. Seeing as he is very much based on Gendo Ikari...
Kathara_Khan wrote:Also, it's great to see you guys are still with us. You've been silent for some time, thought you moved on...
And I think that's a good opportunity to get something off my chest here.
Lately, I've been struggling with writer's burnout. I'm pretty close to canceling this entire series. Not the game itself, never that. But the reports... The entire thing is a labour of love. But recently, it's feeling like a whole lot of labour, and very little love.
Thing is, we no longer really need the reports as session notes. Starting next episode, we'll be doing audio recordings of the sessions, so we'll be very well covered in that regard. Sure, this written story form is much more attractive. But creating it is honestly a lot of work... And lately, it's been very unrewarding.
Hardly anybody seems to care. Sure, we got plenty of views on the thread, but those don't really feel very supportive, nor do they really tell me anything. For all I know, It could be the same three people reading the thing over and over, or hundreds coming in with idle curiosity, reading an episode or two, and going "what is this shitty weaboo wankery?" and leaving never to come back.
Some creators don't really care if what they make is really appreciated by anyone. For others, indifference is poison. I'm afraid I'm of the second sort. I'm quickly loosing motivation to go on.
Especially as the reports in a way hold the game hostage. We can't play the next episode before we finish writting up the previous one, 'cause then we'll forget things, and get buried in backlog. Well, the first won't be a problem anymore, and I'm very close to saying "screw it" to the second. I'm a story teller, sure, but a GM, not a book writer. I want to run this game, not write about it...
So, I'd like to ask for a show of hands here.
Are you reading this series? Do you like it? Well, how about letting us know? Click that "Like" button on each episode. Better yet, drop a comment too, even if it's something "inane" like just a "good job!". If you want to tell us you found a particular thing funny, touching, awsome, of even if you think something didn't quite hit the mark, that's even better.
You'd be amazed how rewarding and motivating feedback can be to an "artist" (yeah, I'm using the term loosely here in realtion to myself).
Even just Claudius and Section9 above pretty much made my day, and made me feel much better about the whole thing. But I'm a greedy cat bastard, I want more.![]()
So yeah, that's how things stand. Thanks for letting me vent.
Kathara_Khan wrote:To tell the truth, I myself am sometimes a little disappointed at how sparse the mecha action is.By the nature of the game, having matches happen much more often would feel rather forced. And narrating all the training games in more detail wouldn't be all too exciting, I feel. Good to hear that the slice of life stuff is still good enough between them.

Thank you for your support, and see you (hopefully) in the next episode!

If you're looking for something to watch, and you haven't seen it yet, I always recommend "Girls und Panzer", which is the primary inspiration for our own "TAGs of Avalon", and a pretty fun series.
Currently, I'm going through "Gundam Build Fighters Try", the sequel to "Gundam Build Fighters", to which we also owe some spiritual debt. Both original and sequel are worth seeing.

Errhile wrote:For me, I guess the feeling of TAGs of Avalon is similar to Full Metal Panic - slice-of-life high school story (with some comedic vibes), and mecha action. And when it is action, it is action. Though while the outer layer is light-hearted, there are recurring serious and sometimes pretty dark & heavy themes in it. More than what I've observed in Girls & Panzer.
So, yeah, I'd say TAGs of Avalon are a good mix between Full Metal Panic and Girls und Panzer.
