Gun ..story of TT

by Maru » April 14th, 2013, 8:58 pm

helo .. so i whas asked to present a tutorial bout blending
but as a test i present a Tutorial about gun - a fast TT lvl military style black gun as i so this a s a problem for many ppl

so lets start
the base color for black gun - should be grey :D
Image
asa grey is a color that mey be and acyualy can be darkned
so get a watered down black paint end actualy pour gun in it - similar to inking but with matte watered down paint
Image
as you mey c paint is actualy transparent end former grey became darker but not fully covered - black paint covered fully deeper places
Image
an effect of actual another layer of iven more thined black paint
ok time to applay first highlight - with grey paint - symilar to base color just watered down a bit
- it is moustly aplayd by a side of a brush not a tip of it and begining if one stroke is easy visible as it starts wher is darkest and ends at brightest highlight - an easy tech of one stroke using natural properitis of surface tension
Image
now time for somthing more decided so a mix of base with white to add light to more reflecting parts of highlights
Image
as you mey c the are some errors - but i haw't use black jet - in mine time lets look at other side of gun (mini whas demaged end outer side is well twicked when inner side allmoust fine )
Image
Now is time for some black paint this time in a form of more a paint less colored watter :)
Image
with black paint - i made edges look like one removing grey smudges and adding contrast - after adding dots ow piure white at wery edges as a bliks of light it could be it ..... but i got cared away and add adicional glazes of somthing symilar to snake bite lether combined with bestial brown :P
Image
Image
i don this to fit a muddy base on wich he will sit on :)

and last stage - full contrast with lence and red pointer
Image

mind that is TT guide no master tech or enything like that

let me know what you would like to c
- a photo of my palete in work proces ?
- a more detailed descryption of brusch tech ?
- no idea what - write it :)

chers

HI Maru,
Great tutorial. I think if you went up to pure white on the uppermost edges and prominent corners of the gun it would make the contrast from light to dark that much stronger.
Having said that this tutorial is a great example of where to properly place the highlights and shadows. If you pay attention to where Maru chose to place his highlights and apply that to your own minis you will see a drastic improvement in the overall look of your minis.
Great job!

Hi, I just found this tutorial. Thank you very much for it!!

And I would like some sort of tutorial for armour plates - especially where to place the highlights and some tips on brushcontrol for the very tiny parts of infinity miniatures.

Ah - these Topics escaped me - thank's for the links.

And about brush control:
I do have an idea about this in general - so I paint most surfaces not with the tip of the brush.
My special problem are the tiny edges and only sometimes eyes. But the edges of armour plates are my main concern. Here I do have problems to get there with the side of the brush. And when I try with the tip of the brush my highlight becomes too broad (or I sort of flood the crevices with my highlight colour when I'm impatient with this).
For this specific problem I'm looking for help, please.

(PS: my recent effort in painting is here.)
