JSA in 200pt ITS, A picture-free Friday night

by grampyseer » September 19th, 2015, 7:27 pm

Hey all,

I played in our most recent local ITS night. Here's the JSA list that I fielded.

Domaru LT
Oniwaban
Raiden HRL
Husong HMG
Tokusetsu doctor
Yuriko Oda
Keisotsu HMG
Keisotsu
Keisotsu Hacker
Keisotsu FO.

My second list replaced the TR HMG with a rui-shi.

GAME 1. Opponent: Nomads Playing Beaconland

Our table was a bit of an odd set up. From my side, picture a 6"high circular platform about 18" in diameter. That occupied the Centre-right of midline, allowing a small alley on my right flank. The left flank was scattered with low pipes that gave partial or full cover depending on their size. I had one sniper perch overlooking this pipe-field.

Deployment

My Raiden set up on the tower to cover both the keisotsu advance across the pipe-field, and the consoles (he could see both). The keisotsu c were carrying 3 beacons, and were obviously my best chance at objective points. The TR HMG covered the right-side alley, and watched my DZ while the Domaru and doctor were sitting almost in contact with the elevated platform.

The nomads deployed a mobile Brigada prone in a truck-box that would allow him vantage over the keisotsu advance. An interventor was close-by and an alguacil FO hid behind a pipe on the left side of the pipe field. At the mouth of the alley sat a tomcat engineer, 2 morlocks, an alguacil paramedic and a gecko with two combi rifles. The gecko was the forward most "flanking unit " :D

Turn 1.

JSA

The oniwaban stuck his infiltration, and quickly charged the gecko. Critted with the monofilament, the gecko fell apart as it obliterated the oniwaban with it's chain colt. (the morlock chain rifles helped a bit here too!)

The Keisotsu scuttled up the pip-field, and deployed a beacon while Yuriko connected a console. So far, so good.

Nomads

The morlocks swung towards centre and the Keisotsu link. I'd misjudged my line of fire, so the morlocks were screened from the link as they ran forward. The Raiden was forced to activate in ARO, but could only cook a single morlock before it was in contact with the link team. The remaing morlock then killed 3 of the keisotsu before being felled by return fire, and hacked for a data scan classified (lucky). It was an absolute blunder for the JSA to allow a blind approach like that. The interventor advanced, and cybermasked herself in the middle of the pipe-field.

Turn 2

JSA. The doctor hustled to the keisotsu hacker, and revived him before planting his mid-field beacon. The link reformed, and advanced around the left side of the field to gun down the lone alguacil. They then planted two more beacons in the nomad DZ. Things were looking pretty good...

Nomads

...until the second tomcat showed up on my side of the exclusion zone. He then proceeded to climb the pipe in an effort to burn out the raiden, freeing up both consoles, and the pipe field.

In a crazy turn of dice, the raiden withstood the flamethrower and proceeded to blow the tomcat to smithereens with a point-blanc anti material shot. Phew! that almost cost me the game.

The other tomcat climbed onto the central platform, hoping for a last turn dash to the console.

Turn 3
JSA

The Domaru LT climbed the platform, and charged the tomcat. Weathering all return fire, he easily cut down the engineer. The link team took up a firing line along the Nomads flank....and the JSA waited for the last-turn rush.

Nomads.

The brigada broke cover, and advanced towards the keisotsu. Over two orders he was perforated by the HMG and combi rifle fire. The interventor data scanned an unconscious keisotsu in the pipe-field, before she ran forward dropping a beacon in the exclusion zone. She was cooked by a Raiden-rocket for her troubles.

The Nomad paramedic advanced up the alley, and was able to deploy a beacon before being shredded by the Husong. With 1 more beacon, the nomads would be tied for control in the central zone...

...With their last order, the nomads wiffed the dice roll and secured a JSA victory.

JSA 7 Nomads 1

This game was actually a lot tighter than results would indicate. That morlock could easily have killed every single keisotsu in the link. Instead, I passed 3 dodges, 2 armour saves and 1 revive check.

Likewise, the Tomcat AD trooper should have had the Raiden dead-to-rights. That would have let him take the second console, and likely gun down the rest of my army from the tower.

All in all, a well fought game. It Didn't feel like a runaway at any point. I pointed out how my opponent could protect his tag with the morlocks better, and I'm sure he won't let me do that again!
