BoB - Battle of the Boards - Info

by LaughingJack » July 21st, 2015, 10:08 am

Hi there,

as we're doing some Terrain projects with the german infinity community, the idea of a battle of the boards came up. And the german community loves the idea, so we thought why only such battle for the german community, why not for an international audience.

So here we announce the first "Battle of the Board".

What is it:
You have plans for a brilliant Infinity board and you only need a small push to do it. So now is your chance to start it and show and share your WIPs, Ideas and Photos with the Data-Sphere Community. The result, a completed board (construction, painting, finishing), will take part in a community voting to find out who's board can convince the community most.

But why the documentation of the work and sharing of WIP-Photos?
Because we think no one can inspire the community more than the community itself. And as we so often see MDF-Lasercut Terrain that is unpainted on tables with more or less no color on it, we want to change that, so our hobby is getting more optical interesting and inspiring.

What can you do:
Everything, from buying Terrain from manufactures like us or our colleagues that are also (and often more) active in this forum and painting it, up to completely constructing your own terrain from ground up (good old hobby work). The only requirement at the end: It has to be a complete board and it has to be painted.

How we support that Battle of the Boards:
Every participant that fulfills the requirement will get a 10€ coupon for our webshop and we will pack a special small container building (free) in your order with an acrylic promotional sign that says something like "Battle of the Boards 2015, I was part of it and my board is approved" or something like that (it is not final at the moment). And the places 1-3 will also get a MDF Lasercut Billboard for their board or next board with a "big" acrylic sign that they rocked the places 1-3. (we will present the pictures of the prices at the end of august).

When is the deadline and how do you have to present your board:
You have time until Sunday the 20th March 2016!!!
And you have to upload 25-35 Photos and optional can upload 1-2 vids of your board in your own battle of the boards wip and work thread.

At the End we will link to your thread and photos in the voting topic and the community has a week to make their vote.

So if you have questions please feel free to ask (we definitely didn't answer everything with this post or created more confusion with it as we solve :-D )

Your Laughing Jacks & Jackies

EDIT:
We are super sorry for the bad communication in the meantime of the end of the previous deadline and now and we hope you can forgive us! (Our Boss Jack is deeply ashamed of himself! :? )

I'm the new Datasphere Jacky and will make sure you'll receive better treatment from now on (since I'm visiting DS nearly everyday anyways ;) ).

The most important info in short:

- The previous deadline has been cancelled since we'd like to end both - the offline and the online contest - at the same time. Due to some problems in the local area (The gaming center is currently used as shelter for refugees, which we propably all agree is more important!) the offline contest has been delayed.

- You'll get an updated deadline and a picture of the prize you can win at the end of may, when we've got further information on this issue. Until then the Battle of the Boards continues, so you can still join in or continue your projects! The new deadline will propably be in november, but we don't want to give any hard date until we know more.

We really like what you people posted this far and hope to see much more awesomeness!

Best wishes, the humble Datasphere Jacky.

Seems like a great idea and great inspiration to get my table done.

Question: does it matter if we've already started? With the mini painting campaigns there's usually a strict requirement that one starts with a time-stamped bare/undercoated mini.

For us it is more important to get you guys and ladies to work, so your boards get finished.

So already started ideas/boards has to be done under / equal 25% of the finished work, so you have to post a series of photos of the actual state of your board. And you can be sure the community will forgive no cheating...
*lightning* ...NO CHEATING *evil laughter* ;-)

How big does the board have to be? 4 feet x4 feet? What if we're making a "special scenario"? Can the board be smaller?

The board has to be 4 feet x 4 feet as it is the standard game table size for infinity and the game tables has to be regular game tables and not special display boards or demo boards. So if you want to create such a demo-table or display board you have to create a construction or find a way to combine it with a second part, so both together have 4x4 feet.

This limitation is to fulfill the goal behind the Battle to get more full-usable game tables with nice constructions and fully colored.
If you, as a community, think that this is to strictly, please let us know. If the feedback is high enough (from the whole community, not only the guys that wants to participate with a smaller table) we will change that, as the BoB is a community event and doesn't have the aim to prevent that a big part of the community participates.

I'm in! I really need a board and since I have about three pages of ideas and random stuff in my notebook as well as a huge folder of interesting artworks, why not start now?
It does not matter if you win by an inch or by a mile. But the former is usually more fun.
The net is vast and infinite. Here's my little corner.

Nope, no worries, it sounds perfectly fine to require a 4x4. I'll see if I can't incorporate it into a larger board.

Taste of your own medicine, I reckon Claudius Sol :cop:

I'm having to paint a whole bloomin' extra TAG in the Summer campaign because Cordelia isn't a complete profile without Scarface!

:didactic: If we would play the DIN card it would be 1,2Meters by 1,2 Meters - but 4 feet by 4 feet is ok, :glomp: :toot:

I've got a board idea, but am limited in my funds at the moment. Should my income situation improve with enough time, I will definitely be entering.

I'm tempted. I'm less than 25% done on my Paradiso project so I think I fit the requirements.

The only issue is that I am going to be sent to Shanghai for 5 months int he middle of this. Hmmmm.

I may just enter anyway.

I'll decide sometime this week likely.

I've got a batch of buildings built but not painted that wouldn't qualify, but I'm also considering a modular space station interior table that certainly would qualify.

I'll keep this contest in mind for if/when I start the station interior project!

I might be in, my current batch of Infinity terrain projects are too far along to qualify but I'm trying to get them all wrapped up before our mid-October local tournament - and then I want to start a new table full of space station/space ship/asteroid station terrain, lots of walls and airlocks and such!

I've also been looking at simple LED circuits and such to incorporate some lighting effects, including (possibly) some flashing/blinking light effects around airlocks and such.
