Proxy / Theme lists

by Perry » January 27th, 2015, 12:27 pm

I am unsure the Infinity community's opinion on theme'd lists. Would you guys be fine running against a list where there were proxying for units that already exist? Running 8 Sekban with 5 modified to be distinct from the other 3, and proxying them as Ghulam. Would that be fine?

In my book?

Fine - maybe not exactly.
Acceptable - definitely. Provided you would make them different enough to be easily told apart. Eg. giving them distinctively different paintjob.

Then again, in this particular example, why not run 8 Sekban models in 2 links (Link Team & Haris) in QK? It would be all kosher, legit and ITS acceptable...
Assuming at least 3 of them in the main Link Team are, in fact, Hafzas hiding in holocamo L1?
They say there will be Heaven and the Fount of Kausar,
That there, there will be pure wine and honey and sugar
Fill up the wine cup and place it in my hand

That's fine with me.
Especially when you probably never play the exact same list more than once or twice.

As long as they're visually distinct from modified Sekbans (if those appear on the table at the same time), I'm fine with it, assuming the golden rule of "your responsibility to make the opponent know what it is". Same if someone painted a few Ghulams in their Metro color scheme and fields them in MRRF to avoid duplicates.

As long as that bolded/italicized part is true, there usually won't be a problem.

That said, I have two simple rules for proxying:
1) the model is armed with the appropriate weapon (ie, HMG model for HMG in the list)
2) the model is armored about like the model in the list (ie, heavily armored model for ARM4 in the list)

The first rule is so that I can remember what weapon the model is supposed to have. The second rule is so that my opponents have an idea how tough the model is to kill.
“I'm curious, son. When has 'This might be a trap' ever stopped you?”
“Stopped? Never. Slowed me down while I load the guns? Every time.”

Place the bases over sticky notes, with the name showing. Or use the comic speech bubbles trick (standing markers).
If not worth saving, is it worth rewriting? What is more, was it worth writing?
