Well Scorch, why hire me when they can just look through my thread? ;)

Thanks Harlekin. :)

Quick update on the fence
Image
Image

Decided against too much extra stuff on the fence sections. Do need to finish the garden shed though -- door, windows, roofing. But that is quick enough work. I may have to touch up the painting though. I'll have it done in time. Tonight or tomorrow night at the latest. Just a few more sections to paint, and touch up, maybe.

Then I can finish the styrofoam palace, maybe before Year's End.

Thanks for Stopping by.

As always, great stuff, and the walls are no exception.

If you were looking for details for the alcove-thingies, what about those trellises, so see in a lot of north african nations? fits the whole haqq vibe quite nicely, something like this:
Image

(Ok, that's not exactly a morrocan trellis fence, but you get the idea, googling 'morrocan trellis' brings up a lot of carpet samples, and googling 'morrocan fence' brings up some, let's say different, results...)

I imagine you can get dollhouse-size sheets of the stuff if you wanted to go back and add some in at a later date

Nice idea, but alas, I pretty much ran out of time to figure out the best way to do it. But I am going to keep the pattern in mind in the future. Thank you very much, gentlemen

Anyway, here is the final result. The contest ends on the 28th, but who is going to be doing anything between now and then? (Well, I'll be reading my copy of N3 which arrives today. And I suppose I'll assemble those new Ghulam I ordered. Perhaps a bit of puttering.)

I painted it to match with the other terrain, which means a simple paint scheme.

All the pieces, 24 of them
Image
Image

And a simple arrangement
Image

A larger arrangement
Image

A still larger arrangement
Image

And the largest arrangement
Image
Plenty of room for a garden-- a few planters. maybe a building? A fountain? Palm trees? Endless possibilities.

A few detail shots,
Image
Shoot-out at the OK Corral, or maybe the QK corral ;)

and how it may look against the guesthouse
Image
Nice match, eh?

A top view
Image

The garden shed-- need to put a vent on the roof at some point, to serve as a handle... and oh, a leaf and a garden trowel inside it. Y'know why. But it is fine for now.
Image
Image

Anyat makes a pretty good scale model, no? The mini certainly has 'the pose'. I'll definitely finish painting it at some point.

And that's it for the year. Well, maybe I'll finish the Styrofoam Palace, but I am not going to rush things.

I can't say it enough, your projects are always a treat, red harvest.

Bourak would be blessed to have an architect like you.

Personally, I like the simplicity of your finished fence. It just exudes elegance, if I do say so myself (and I do!).

Wow, bit of a delay to my reply. Thanks guys. There has been precious little hobby time so far this year.

I started to build an objective room, but made the exterior 8", not the interior. Now I have this, made from corrugated cardboard (yeah cardboard. Crappy material to build with, but, sometimes it is a challenge to make a silk purse from a sow's ear.)
Image Image

Added the second porch to the styrofoam experiment. This one is progressing very slowly. Ah well, It'll be done. And it will compliment my not objective room. Or the other way around.
Image

The not obective room will get a second story. Cool thing about really thick walls-- the walls are 1.25" thick-- is that they can be 'catwalks' so both levels are more or less playable at once. You'll see. Got a few other ideas too... But need to make sure the first story can support the weight, so a stress test...
Image
31.75Kg. Not too shabby. I think it'll hold up to another story and a roof ;)

Final note is this
Image
By keeping the interior floor separated, I can easily finish the interior, or even have several interchangable ones. Currently, an Idea from MarcC is to make it a Turkish bath. That has potential.

I think I mentioned it in your thread on the main forums, but it can't be said enough:

Gods, that's is so well crafted, I just need to applaud you. Making the floor separate is also a great idea! Looking real forward to seeing you bring this piece to life.

Best I could do, given that the building is still WIP
Image
The Odalisques somehow seemed fitting. :aaa:
EDIT: added this...
And just a quick question. What about tile for the alcoves? Not necessarily these tiles, but, you get the idea.
ImageImage
The rest of the building would be in the standard stucco colors. ANd I would need to find a way to carry the tile motif through to the second story.

Blue tiles look ace there!
They say there will be Heaven and the Fount of Kausar,
That there, there will be pure wine and honey and sugar
Fill up the wine cup and place it in my hand

Sold on the red lights!!
House rule, if a male mini passes a red lady within its zone of control you must make a WIP roll, fail and you only move at half speed while you are distracted by the local 'sights'

Tiles, I need to know what if anything will be in the alcoves, blue tiles makes it look like a public toilet.

Good thing Haqq has such high WIP then ;) Bring it on, Pan-O :P

I may be going for a bath-house motif as MarcC suggested. Those tiles were just for demo purposes. This is more like the final result.
Image
Image
Much less 'rest-roomy'.

Anyway, to make them
Image
Cut out from the back, through the paper first. The tape is thick enough to produce a nice 'glazed' effect. It needs to be thoroughly rubbed out though, but still, works better than the alternatives I tried.

Alcoves may get planters or some sort of water effect. Some anyway. Perhaps small windows or some sort of decoration on the walls.

Hey! Amsterdam! No doubt. A little place of Bakunin weirdness in the Haqqislamic city.

Like Haqqislam didn't had its own great traditions to draw upon ;)

But anyway - I love the idea of hammam (Turkish bath) on the board. Might steal it for my own use :)

I suspect Amsterdam is Squaresville compared to Bakunin. Sorry Scorch.

Errhile, it does in fact have great traditions, but the bath house was very much borrowed from the Romans. The exterior won't be too much, but the possibilities for the interior are really cool. This one will take some planning and experimentation to make it work.

MArcC, the tile rotation someone else suggested to me and posted this photo as inspiration,
Image
Which as you can see, is nearly a perfect color match too... although I may have manipulated the tile colors a bit before printing....

Looking better.
I have seen clear tape cause contraction wrinkles on paper over time, hopefully if its glued securely to the wall it wont go weird on you, time will tell.
Or you could cut out little squares of clear tape for each individual tile, that would look a lot better . . .

Oh yeah, if you stretch the tape at all while applying it, you can run into problems. This stuff is pretty thick, and not at all 'stretchy'. The last time I used this sort of tape, it was as 'glass' in a wizard's tower some 14 years ago. It was over black paper, and looked pretty good as glass. It has held up well enough, or had held up, last time I saw the tower. Somebody else has it now.

Or just lay the tape over a solid printed piece, and cut the tiles from that, grid style. Of course, gluing all those 5mm square tiles down may be a real PITA... :D

Thanks for the suggestion. How about the tile pattern used like this?
Image
On the left. Instead of the basic square tiles?

I like it a bit better. It looks even less 'rest-roomy'. There will be no windows in those alcoves after all, or so I'm thinking. Next up, the doors or the second floor. Hmm, what color will the doors be?

It matches the rest of the building more, yes.

Also could you try to match the corners? Maybe by cutting all from the same continous piece.

Way ahead of ya...
Image

Doorway was too short, so I increased its height
ImageImage

Also, thinking about tiling the portal
Image

And the door itself, not sure about something. I wanted the doorway wide enough for those 25mm bases ( as required by the objective room) but I dislike overly wide doors, so I figured to make the door and frame removable, individually and as one piece.

ImageImageImage
But I am thinking that this is unecessary now. Affix the door to the frame and make it removable, or affix the frame, and make just the door removable? This is the last thing to decide before I move onto the next story of the building. I'll build the other 3 doors, or maybe convert two fo them into windows of some sort... Hmmm... after that I get to the second stry and roof. The rest of the tiling can be done after that. I just needed to see how it might look. Those pieces in the photos are just pressure fit into place, not glued. I need to remove them before I texture and paint the building. For neatness, and it is easier to do things that way.

Thanks for stopping by.

Here with the first small building, primed and textured

Makes a nice canyon no?

And a family shot of the small buildings so far. Almost done building them all. it's only been what, 2 years. Sigh
