Dreadball - anyone here?

by M2Cat » October 3rd, 2014, 7:50 pm

Hi!
Is there anyone who could tell something about this game? Is it worth investing? I'd like to see any info: general considerations and personal feelings/suggestions.
All I know is that it competes with "one-and-only" Blood Bowl from legendary GW. Who tried both?
Are there any rules available for free to get in touch with the game concept? I've found nothing.

I've never played it myself but i've heard nothing but good things about it.
In fact, a friend of mine is a massive Blood Bowl fan, and he described Dreadball as "Much more cinematic".

And if you do fancy taking a dive, I have a sale on for the minis on my webstore :P

Hi -

I got into miniature gaming with Blood Bowl and I still have the odd team. Slaughterball is the new game that just got kickstarted (and funded) but I've yet to try it. When Dreadball came out I may have gotten all of the teams during the origional kickstarter. I've not jumped on or played the new Dreadball expansion (aka Season 4) that has Dreadball being played outside of the league and on the streets. My issues with Mantic's support during the release of the backer rewards aside (I'm still missing minis), Dreadball is a brilliant game.

Blood Bowl felt more clinical while Dreadball feels more dynamic and faster in pace. Dreadball you have limited actions (5) per turn and with 7 turns for each player unlike the much longer Blood Bowl which has one action per player on the pitch. As a fan of Blood Bowl - Dreadball is my favorite of the two games. The slew of teams are each unique and lots of fun to play.
- Cheers

@Dozer
I've read the rulebook, but had no chance to try it.
Seems very alike Infinity with 5 activations per player's turn. But I haven't caught, if there is any analog of ARO during your passive turn or are there any means to intercept your opponent's activations besides if he drops the ball?

I've got a corp team (Nova Castria Dark Knights ).

A friend got into it, then his uni course changes meant he had to move away to do post-grad studies, and I haven't actually had a game yet.

The game looks easy enough though. And different enough from BB (because although I played that game in High School (High school Gridiron - Go WILDCATS! - I am not fond of the mechanics of BB). I'm looking forward to playing it. Sometime.

Some active player actions allow for the reactive player (using the Infinity Terms) to make a choice on their reaction. Otherwise no - its I go you go. The rounds are only 5 actions long - they are quick. The next player will feel due to the berevity of the turns, reactive in their actions.

It's fast and the dice mechanics are pretty slick if taking a few mins to get your head around since they buck common mechanics.
