]ok decided to answer on your's querry in your topic instade of Tutorial one
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=598

first off :
color theme - you just picked clashing colors - thous if not made good will meld and create optical ilusion of blurynes (Green + orange ) (purple + gray)

second thing - show me your brush - just get picture of it and post (with mini for comp - or finger whatever ) :)
- other thing im assuming you ground model in White ?
And when I try with the tip of the brush my highlight becomes too broad (or I sort of flood the crevices with my highlight colour when I'm impatient with this).

so :
gt a paper or just use your own thumb to get first stroke on it to get read of to much paint that would flooad area
other thing - get first stroke in the air above desired spot - then lower and this time create a line you desire - muscule memory will give you a stright and fine line :)
if you reqire more - just ask :)

I think your brush control isnt too shabby highlights on the plates look pretty good, pushing a bit of a wash on the green against the straps might help the legs too. Personally i think the colour choice is slightly jarring though, mainly a matter or preference.

Thanks a lot for the replies!

I'll take pictures tomorrow - now I'm too tired...

To the colour choice - I must admid it's a wierd one ;-)
I just took colors on my painting desk for this miniature without much thought. The foundation was white, yes. And I did't paint long on this miniature.

I'll post also some pictures from my next ones - hopefully with better colour choice.

So here is a picture with my brushes and my new WIP miniature.
CA Ikadron.jpg

I'll try to improve my Keesan with a little more shading of the armour and some lightpoints on it. And I will redo the weapons....

@Maru: thank's for the good examples!
And wtih a closer look at the pictures I see your point with the white groundation - small white dots everywhere...
Would you generally recommend a darker goundation (>black/grey)? What is your advice for already white grounded models? Should I redo them or is there a simpler solution?
Are miniatures for the Gaming Table also better done with the two-coloured groundation in the massivevodoo tutorial?

With the new WIP Miniature I want to do:
a blue/grey armour
dark brown body
Some green
And I'll decide the details (perhaps some yellow for markings) when most of the painting is done.

bRUSHES - GOOD so thats not the problem
Are miniatures for the Gaming Table also better done with the two-coloured groundation in the massivevodoo tutorial?

Yes
this is already pre shading and include a darklinking part of sort
What is your advice for already white grounded models?

well you already got base color + white so you end with brighter color then desired - a solution is darlkinking and glazes in a darker colors to increse shadows effect
a blue/grey armour

ok thats easy - but just blue armor with tint of gray is easer
dark brown body

you are out of schadule - already paited armor and i c no brown body which is inside of armor
Some green

no problem with this
And I'll decide the details (perhaps some yellow for markings) when most of the painting is done.

Yellow + Blue = Green - will meld
Yellow + brown = Brown - will meld
yuo whant REd or Magenta for this or Turquse if you can pull this out :) or fluo green

@Maru: Thank's a lot for your advice.

Here my next work. I think I have to work at smoother transitions - here in the picture things are looking "wilder" than on the gaming table

Now THAT's great.

From the (somewhat limited) picture, the theme seems to work well. A lot of good complimentary colors with nice accents and highlights. Good job. I much prefer this over the Aelis.

So here I try to give a view from more angles...
I think my next task is to work at smoother transitions and think about colourcombinations.

Still trying to manage GIMP for this...

Oh, yes the bases are another task. But I'll try to improve gradually and focus on the miniatures now. First my painting technics, then other things. One step after the other...

And I see good examples here in DS.
