This seems a strange statement. Pesonally, having none of these models, buying this set for 6.425 euros per model (MSRP) seems like a freaking steal.

Now, if you already own those models, that's a different story, but tagain, the target audience is probably new players... so yeah.

Have to agree. Whether or not you have the models already, and disregarding all the extra bits, these are the cheapest CB minis you can buy. If you don't need or want these minis, well, that's not really an issue with the price.

Re: page count and terrain, that sounds pretty promising! 32 pages should be plenty for ~10 unit profiles (3-4 pages), say 5 scenarios (1-2 pages each?) and a decent bite of the rules. I could see that including some advanced rules like Camo, visors, special weapons, and AD.

The terrain will probably be a bit sparse by itself on a 4x4 table, but it's a great start for essentially no cost. Add some scatter terrain and a couple cardboard boxes from around the house and your hypothetical 2 newbies are golden. :)

With a nice 20% discount from an e-tailer, the minis will be very inexpensive ( ~$7.20 each, if you count the value of everything else in the box as $0). It seems like a complete game in a box, which is a good thing.

According to the description from Yasbir's link, the book contains a brief guide to the Infinity milieu, 5 scenarios, the backgrounds and profiles for the troops included in the box, and the rules to play them. Given that there is an Akalis and a Spektr, the rules will include Camo/TOcamo and Airborne Deployment. Also guidelines/advice on how to immerse oneself deeper into the Infinity universe... I suspect where to download additional rules etc. It will be interesting to see if they mention the official forums.

Wonder what markers are included? No idea as to game mat size. And what quality paper is the terrain?

And it looks like on 1 August, there will be Icestorm presentations in a couple of game stores in Spain. So we should know everything within 2 weeks.

You forgot this weekend Interplanetary at Vigo, which could be a source of such info. Less than one week.

Does that mean we'll know the quickstart rules for 3rd edition after this weekend as well then? :D

Ah.. thanks for the heads up about Ravage, will have to pick up the latest copy.

Does anyone know if there are any UK retailers for that mag now since that Valiant Wargames ceased trading?

Hmm, containers are easy enough (just boxes, my bets are on a pre-made containers from Paradiso train mission - virtually a resized and recoloured i-Kubes), but I wonder about the buildings. If they are playable inside, that's going to be something (and yes, something that could be made available as a separate deal too! Glue-not-required, snap-together cardboard buildings could be a great idea for an Infinity product, especially if addressed to beginners).

If they're just boxes with "building" textures on them, I'd consider them a wasted opportunity.

I think there has to be some consideration here that this is a starter set, not 'everything for Infinity in a box'. What we are getting in the box has to be balanced against the costs, and CB isn't a big enough company to have this set as a 'loss leader' in terms of the profits they make.

My expectations for the terrain aren't very high at all, considering how much we usually have to pay for even a half-decent MDF building with limited detail and texture (even 2 or 3 small ones from MAS or Warsenal coming to the same price as this starter set!)

My guess: The 4 buildings are the size of iKubes to 1.5x bigger, we might get lucky with one being accessible. The 6 containers are MAS resin crate size and is mainly scatter terrain category.

Keep in mind that it will be in Spanish. I suspect that a pdf of the rules1 will begin circulating soon enough after Ravage hits the newsstands, and that CB will make a download available, either directly or through say BoW, early on the following week (or not so early come to think about it. )

I hope the terrain is sufficient for the 5 scenarios in the book at least. That would be the logical thing to do.

As far as we know, the "Introductary Rules" or QSR are going to be a rather slim booklet... I won't expect too much info about N3 included there.

Then don't expect much from the Ravage ones either, because they are the basics too. We have to wait and see, but they could even be the same, minus campaign & fluff.

N3 full release date is unknown.

I used to get the English translation copy of Ravage, think it was originally distributed by CMoN in the States, but not sure who sells it in the UK now (if anyone), will have to have a look..

I always assumed it was French originally actually, didn't know it was Spanish!

Oui, originally French. This is the first issue in Spanish. I do not think the French version has the QSR in it.

If the bit on the right side is an 8" ruler, then I'd guess it's a 2ft x 3ft mat. With three or four Icestorm kits, you can make a reasonably well-covered 4x4 table of snazzy papercraft terrain. :D

Seems like the containers could be i-Kube like, but the buildings (two textures, two pieces of each) - while apparently non-enterable - are somethng different. A pity, but then I appreciate the attention to detail - for example, ladders (printed on the building) to allow roof access without Climbing Plus or risky rolls for Climbing skill.

Aye, that looks about right-- the light blue area is "you can shoot me here", and the dark blue dot is "I shoot from here".

Presumably there will be larger cards for other base sizes. :)
