I've only used the new forum theme in the time it took me to figure out which one was the old one :P
Also, the old banner was way better :v:

To each his own, I suppose. Which is why we kept the old theme around!

Re: New forum theme feedback

In copying across my terrain thread I've come across a couple of issues:

1. There are no post numbers within a thread.
2. I can't see any anchor links for posts.

This makes it very hard to point people towards a specific post within a thread. The only option I can think of is to pooint people towards the post datestamp but presumably that's being changed by people's timezone settings. :(

Also, the post count appears to have gone from all the sub-forum views, leaving only the number of pages and the number of views to see how long a thread is.

I think the post title (here "Re: New forum theme feedback") is what you want.

For example, this link - viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1601&start=30#p19418 - should point to your post above.

Re: New forum theme feedback

Hello Data Sphere.

Congratulations on your new-found status, and good luck!

Just a minor suggestion, if I may...

When I view the various forum/section menus, where all the threads are listed, I can see the number of views that each topic has received. But I'm not that interested in the number of views. What I'd really like to see is the number of replies, so I can see if a thread has advanced.

Am I missing an option to make the number of replies visible at the section menu level?

Thanks!

Oh, and faction smilies! I have to do this:

I've a suggestion: Personally, I'm not that big a fan of the "here's my list" threads co-mingling with the more general "I've been thinking..." threads. Would it be too much to have subforums within the faction subforums purely for "here's my list" threads?

Good idea OR, ask that all "here's my lists threads" start with [LIST] or [WARNING: LIST AHEAD] or [LISTICLES] or [ABANDON ALL HOPE YE WHO ENTERS LISTS], etc etc.

Unrelated to the above, Errhile informed me that there is now a "thumbs up"/like option - but it's only visible in "prosilver". Is that being worked on?

In "Digital" theme:
There's a rather odd banner image covering the usual Data-Sphere logo in the top left.

I'm assuming a bug?

Here's a random question - can we get a link to open Infinity Army in a new tab? That would come in handy, given how often while I'm reading and posting here I want to look up a profile or a tactical thread leads to a list idea.

Yes, new as today. For the past year or so it was just the header that appears half covered now.

Maybe we should start a separate thread.
If not worth saving, is it worth rewriting? What is more, was it worth writing?

Hi, this option was disabled in the speech bubbles because they were also showing the number of replies when you were on the index page, which was a bit too much.

I've now setup a new column when viewing topics that will show the replies next to the view count. :)

Here in the central computer facility for the state of Illinois, where I work, we had XP on our computers, up until they finally upgraded our computers starting this week. Although having people that have no idea about mainframes installing them wasn't exactly the brightest of ideas.

I like the style of the corvus layout and the compactness of the digital layout.
Is it possible to create a squished version of corvus that shrinks the white spaces around everything?

I'll agree Corvus doesn't make the best use of screen real estate. Maybe we'll go for a more compact look by default.

Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Re: New forum theme feedback

by Yashia » July 29th, 2014, 10:53 am

Ok, first of all: I can't eliminate the possibility that the problem is just me and my understanding of the functions, but I#ve got a problem with the "Go to first unread post"-function:

When you do mouse-over the thread names it says "Go to first unread post" but instead brings you to the start of the page. There you can click "Go to first unread post" and that works.
But there also is a little button that says the same and indeed does what it promises. I mean this little buddy:
Last Unread.PNG

I really appreciate the possibility to have that function, only problem is, that the button is really small and sometimes hard to hit with the scroll wheel. Am I missing something? If not, would it be possible to make it a bit wider?
As you can see I'm using the Corvus style (since it works on mobile devices ;) ).

Thanks in advance! :)

Edit:
Ok, just saw it says "Unread posts" not "Go to first unread post" in the mouse over. Nevertheless only the small icon brings you to the last unread. Sorry!
