This has been annoying me about Infinity for a long, long time. If I had the skills, I'd cut off every single freaking high-healed foot and replace it with a non-stupid foot. At least it's not consistent across the line.

It ties in with the whole Anime/Manga influence and style of Infinity, and the influnces the game aesthetic draws from. It has been there since the beginning.

It doesn't make much sense at all from a practical perspective (unless they are doing a shopping run while taking part in spec-ops) so probably best not to think about it too much! :)

They are called combat heels.

Same reason we are still waiting for Fat Yuan Yuan or Chubby Odalisque. Or what Pacific said.

Correct. But release should be earlier for the mega starter.

To be fair its not just Infinity. Other manufacturers do it as well. At least on a mini it isn't as pronounced

Infinity is the only game I play that does it. Most other games don't do females at all. So there's something.

I'm sorry if I came across as bashing Infinity or CB. It's annoying, sure, but Infinity is probably the best game out there for equivalently sexualized male and female figures, as well as the highest number of figures who are sculpted in such a way that they don't have to be painted as white people. Infinity is the best, but I can't let them off the hook, because they aren't perfect, yet, and I'm an obnoxious idealist bastard.

This. I've stressed the parts that I agree with. :p I am so glad to finally see a game that represent humanity in its diversity, instead of eurocentric crap. Annoyed the hell out of me that the entire 40K is white and male.. I do not really care for sexism, as I think it's something in the eye of the beholder.. you can annoy yourself to death, or just enjoy life. :p But Infinity does a good job by taking both sexes to a certain level.

This chart represents the issue quite clearly:

Image

Corvus Belli does a decent job of keeping all their models - in general, there are exceptions - in the same column, and that's great. They're basically alone in the world of miniature wargaming in doing so. Ironically, GW does a decent job of it as well; Sisters of Battle wear clothes, and all Eldar and Dark Eldar wear tight clothes and are terrifying. They just let their only all-female line languish indefinitely with half-assed rules and no model support... :? Both GW and CB are way better than Soda Pop and the world of tiny Kickstarters, which are basically the giant-boobs-and-unrealistic-poses-of-the-month-club.

Fun side note - I showed my wife my Infinity models, once, and she agreed. The spitfire asura, for example, might be mobile artillery with the body of a centerfold, but the spitfire deva has a really cute butt! Parity is approached!

Now, only if we could do something about the stupid combat high heals... :x

My girlfriend said the same thing when her Tohaa arrived. She unpacked Aelis Keesan and her first remark was; "Hm, she has a nice tight ass!'

Nice chart by the way. GW has lots of models in the heroic column, but that isn't a problem. Only an aesthetic choice. I personally really liked what they did with the Dark Eldar. I just don't like the game-mechanics. :D Other than that, they have some beautiful models and are indeed pretty true to their aesthetic.
Infinity hasn't done a bad job with their models. I think a naked belly isn't such a bad thing, and most of the skin parts are easily painted in another colour to make it look like just a bodysuit/tshirt without hurting the model. It's not like they show nothing but a thong! :p or lay wide-legged on their bases. Okay, there is something like the Daktari with cat ears, but frankly, their aesthetic is based in manga/anime which, in my experience, has much worse to offer than a little furry fetish.

Re: Operation Icestorm

The thing with Infinity is: you either like the manga/anime style, or you don't. It is a question of personal taste, and there is no point in discussing it.

Once you go beyond that, you see that CB goes a long way towards "gender equality" with their sculpts. And since they also stay true to their stylistic roots, those males and females are quite sexualised (I have yet to see a single female sculpt in the Infinity range that I'd call "natural"). But I think complaints in that direction are off the spot: manga/anime is unnatural by choice. CB simply chose a certain aesthetic and followed it - while caring for (almost) equal distribution of genders. I consider both things a plus: in their chosen boundaries CB does a great job of delivering an excellent product.

Now just give me the O:I details.

One more thing - at least, for the most part, you can use a force that has no overly-sexualised miniatures, no high-heels and only lumpen arses! :)

To get back on topic, has there been any clue as to what the exclusive miniature with the pre-order will be yet? Perhaps another merc or even a civilian - like a scientist perhaps, going on the 'R&D' theme of the cover (just a complete guess here by the way!)

This is the limited edition mini right here:

Of course, that doesn't help much. I mean, what the hell is it?

EDIT: Note, this is the limited edition GenCon only mini. Not the exclusive civvie, who will presumably remain a part of the set forever.

PanO by weapon, MI by amount of visible armor. 'Drop Bear' is an Aussie-ism, maybe a different style of Crazy Koala?

It's a mix of Bolt parts plus a mine (limited edition marker? future release of blister with many of them? new Bolt sculpt with some markers?).

Forever? Why the sticker then? OTOH, if they are doing it 2 Starters + 1 Dire Foes, it would be silly to later sell a intro pack with a crippled Dire Foes, or sell it alone that way.

Yes, this is the cosplay exclusive, limited to GenCon and long month in webshop.

What I don't know is the status of the drop bear.

To sum up:
The box, 14 (6 + 1 PanO, 6 + 1 Nomads) miniatures plus 1 (bodyguard?) miniature that seems to be limited.
The biker, some avaliable "now", plain Bootleg by end of year.
Bolt tied to the cosplay, limited.

I believe I heard $120 mentioned, whatever that equates to in other monies.. (that may have just been a guess however).

CB aren't averse to knocking money off stuff (remember those army deals before), I wouldn't be surprised if O:I offered a fair saving on buying the different bits separately (here's hoping! :) )

Although I blew more than $300 on the forthcoming AvP boardgame, which hasn't even arrived yet, so anything is going to feel cheap compared to that..

So $120 for Op Ice and... 10.99 msrp for a single normal blister, I think. I'd normally kind of be leary if not for the free Penny with that deal.

Also, we need CSI to Enhance that further. :P

Are you sure? If each mini is about $10, and Op Ice includes fifteen minis, $120 is a great deal. If the rumors of a play mat (~$30) and some terrain turn out to be true, that's a hell of a bargain. It's a pretty good price even if they aren't.

You might want to think of it as two starter sets.;) That will drop the price per mini ratio considerably, more in line with the content (starter = €35~~ x2 + contents like a dire foes box, €30~~ so around €100 could work fine, if that would be the case.

Right. Well, €100 is about $130, so Op Ice is still a decent deal.
