No one's mentioned it, but I've seen its minis before. Biggest turn off for me was a Black Rose bandit girl with her gigantic nose. Looking through the line now, however, there are plenty of decent sculpts, so may look into the rules and reviews of said rules.

And another: Song of Blades and Heroes (look under Fantasy)
If not worth saving, is it worth rewriting? What is more, was it worth writing?

Came across this one on Kickstarter. They are the same guys who make Anima Tactics, although this game looks much more fantasy

Hell Dorado is more fantastic than Anima Tactics, IMO. You're literally talking about a land/colonization grab in Hell!

I'm going to need to chase down a copy of the Inferno expansion, now, since I really like the Hell Dorado minis and game.

And I found a game that I'm going to buy as soon as possible: Spider Monkey Games' "Terminus Gate." It has some really cool models (the Core World faction looks like great Nomad stand-ins), and the game itself is kinda like Necromunda or Mordheim. You're in command of a 'small packet freighter', always in search of that next job.

Terminus Gate is a gritty, brutal miniatures game pitting rival privateer crews against each other as they attempt to fulfill their contracts. You are the captain of a space-faring privateer crew, contracting your services where you can in the vast outer systems. Armed with some fresh recruits, you will ply your trade across the stars, picking up contracts ranging from planetary exploration to deep space salvage, policing actions to hit-and-run raids. As they survive each job, your crewmen will gain experience, granting them new abilities and opportunities to develop in their professions.

In the depths of space, opportunities and dangers abound. Dark and terrible enemies poise ready to foil your crew at every turn. Life as a privateer is a dangerous affair with injuries and even death awaiting your crew as they quest for fame and fortune amongst the stars.

I'm hoping that the missions will be nicely transferable to Infinity.

Hm, yes I thought so too. Although Infinity has anime-based design, AT isn't really my kind of thing. But this Hell Dorado seems pretty neat.
It's funny. It looks to me like this 'skirmish'-style of TTG is winning in favor of the 'full-scale war'-style. I see more and more popping out of the ground.
I think many of the fantasy-games still need to grow in their design and aesthetics. I haven't felt the crush I had with Infinity :D
Still I'll keep my eye open for a Fantasy-styled skirmish tabletop that will have the same attraction as Infinity had.

Perhaps I'll start my own... :3: *dreaaaaming on* any tips?

Section 9, don't make me fall in love with another Scifi Skirmish. Please? :P

I don't really like Helldorado's aesthetic, honestly. Sort of like Malifaux; there's something I don't like, but I can't put my finger on it.

Songs of Blades and Heroes seems neat, may drop eight bucks on it for a try.

I want it for the missions. Besides, I was thinking that the Core Worlds troopers would make great Mobile Brigada or equivalent.

I know what you mean. While I like the Saracens, many of the other factions are on the wrong side of the Uncanny Valley!

Hm, why oh why aren't there that many other sculptors with the skills like the guys at CB? :P

If you want fantasy, Mordheim might be something you want to look at. There are fan supported rules on the net and you can use GW or other minis. It is squadish based is based off the fantasy part of GW.

A game i've been meaning to start is Nemesis by Zenit Miniatures. I have a whole bunch of models for it, just need to build and paint them :P
They have recently released a much-needed 2nd Ed book which should hopefully clean up the game a bit - it did suffer some translation errors from Spanish to English and a few of the rules were as clear as coal :/
Like Infinity, it was the minis that caught my attention first; i really like their style and think they're quite imaginative - their undead faction, NoVidos (Not Alive :P ) had bodies animated by parasitic plants ages before The Last of Us :P

There's also Relics by Tor Gaming. Decent skirmish level game, again with some really imaginative minis! What got me interested was the Britanan faction; an army made up of magically-animated, stitched dolls given muskets and sent out to fight.

Re: Infinity Fantasy Alternative

by Mistake Not » July 16th, 2014, 8:54 pm

So the two games besides Infinity that I play have been mentioned in this thread already: Mordheim and Godslayer. If you're looking for fun narrative games with a fun casual group, check out Mordheim. I've added all those adjectives because the rules aren't stable, they're not balanced, and they're certainly not well-tuned. Since the group I play with uses every last bit of fan-made content they can get their hands on the problems just get worse; strangest thing they've argued is that Vampires aren't Undead. Because.. it doesn't say anywhere that they're Undead. Except in their rules for Fear, but, that's rules text for Fear.. you get my point? Fun game, cool to do, but it has to be casual or it'll just collapse.

Godslayer on the other hand is an absolutely fantastic game. It uses alternating activations, where you take turns activating one unit and a character (or two characters, or just one thing) each round. There's not really any dull moments because you're activating something every few minutes, so the pace never really drops, and since each model can interact with others the order in which you activate your models/units each turn becomes very important. The game is very much based around interactions between units, especially buffing up the actual Units (of up to 10) with your Characters and Warlord. The rules are well-written and so far it's been a very balanced and extremely fun experience. This is the game I'd recommend.
The fluff is possibly even better. The world is flat and basically rectangular, well, this world anyway. The eights world (of nine) though some got shattered during the Everkill War when the Aetherions (sort of elemental people, immortal) decided to declare war on the Asrea (Mortal (Humans & Ogres)) Gods. And almost won. Five (six) elements and elemental races, bronze age tech (except Dwarves who have steel), sort-of-Greeks, sort-of-Romans-with-necromancy, and of course the always pleasant cannibal tribes. Plague-vector Beastspawn? Trolls are the elemental race of Shadow.

Is it obvious yet that I really really like Godslayer? I don't like their models at all, but the rules and fluff are just amazing. They have the rules available for free too. Not as completely as Infinity, since the model stats aren't freely available, but the main rules are free enough for a quick browse.

Has anyone here played Dark Age? It seems interesting and kinda different. Not sure how good the rules are, but it seems the core rules are free so I may try it out with proxies sometime.

It's a kind of techno-fantasy - the premise is that you've got a lush world, dangerous but with valuable minerals so there's a corporate mining/refining operation there until some shit goes down at home. The executives go away "for health reasons" and the rank-and-file employees are left abandoned with failing equipment. A thousand years later or so no the corporation exists only in the legends of the Ancients and you've got primitives running around with scavenged equipment - barbarian warriors with weapons made of modern composite sawblades etc. There are bands, tribes, your usual monolithic oppressive religious order, mutants, whatever. Also a faction of robots created by faulty corporate AI.

How about Batman?

Yeah, yeah. I know it's strictly not fantasy because it is a comic book but I've got one really good point...

1.) It's fucking BATMAN!

The rules are tight, it's in early development so if you scream at the game designer enough he'll change rules and the miniatures are great! He helped clean up Infinity 2nd Edition so he's no slouch.

Apparently Bushido had a little help from CB's Gutier in developing it.

I recently picked up some minis for Bushido, and they are extremely nice (Ito).
