Not a bad price for the minis alone, I think the quality of the extras might really swing the value though.

It's on the "I'll think about it" list.

I don't need "more" fusiliers, and the other panO models I won't use anyway (I don't play vanilla, aconte or MO at present. I would need to add one of those options to my playstyle in order to make it a "if I can afford it" list. ). Failing that, I don't need cosplay bolt girl, the dice, markers or bikermoll penny (got the original and best version already) and I'd only currently use the new alguaciles, templates and markers (I'll get N3 separately anyway). I don't know what the ruler does that my tape measure doesn't already do. Silhouette thing will be replicable anyway (it would have to be. They can't count on EVERYone getting the box).

I will be very surprised if I end up buying this. It's too expensive and the models are going to have to be well above CB's normal level of production to be worth the price.

I think it's pretty good, especially with a discount online... Where I normally order my infinity pre orders are 15% off so that should be about £60 for 15 models, dice, scenery, rules, mat etc...

3 boxes of 4 models (12 models so less than O:I) is about £60...

I still think it's a good deal, but as someone who's interested in Corregidor and Tunguska and has had some good experiences trading on Bartertown, I'm uniquely suited to enjoy this box. As I posted earlier, the Nomads models are all models I'll use, the PanO will make great trade fodder, I love the idea of having painted up civvies for scenario play (I plan to getthe Nomads/ALEPH Dire Foes pack but haven't gotten around to it yet), and there's terrain in the box? Awesome.

But, yeah... if you play the wrong army (neither PanO or Nomads) or the wrong sectorial (Military Orders and Bakunin don't seem to get much from this box outside the one new model, and Neoterra doesn't get... anything, I think), the keep:trade ratio could be totally off.

Red is the perfect color, isn't it?

Given that you need custom molds for dice like that, I wonder if CB may have splurged and got a full set of molds, so each faction can have them. I hope so.

And what is going on with the Greek letters and Chinese(?) characters for icons?

Three Fusiliers.

I lucked out, I don't play either vanilla faction, but I do play Neoterra and Quapu Khalqi. So, about half the models will be useable. That's ain't bad. :)

Posted this in the official forums, but thought it'd be a good idea to share it here, as well.
Let's see...

PanOceania:
Panoceania | 7 models
________________________________________________________

Fusilier Combi (10|0)
Fusilier Combi (10|0)
Fusilier Combi (10|0)
Nisse Combi (31|0)
Orc Lieutenant (40|0)
Akal Combi (23|0)
Knight Hospitaller MULTI (48|0)
________________________________________________________

172/300 points | 0/6 swc
open with Aleph Toolbox g : http://goo.gl/PUDLVC

That's as bare-bones basic as I figured would be reasonable. It's not a far fetched idea to imagine this reaching 200 points if some of the fusiliers were specialists and if you gave out a few special weapons.

Nomads:
Nomads | 7 models
________________________________________________________

Alguacil Combi (10|0)
Alguacil Combi (10|0)
Alguacil Combi (10|0)
Securitate Combi (23|0)
Mobile Brigada Lieutenant (43|0)
Spektr Combi (33|0)
Reverend Moira MULTI (38|0)
________________________________________________________

167/300 points | 0/6 swc
open with Aleph Toolbox : http://goo.gl/UnSiGQ

Only slightly less. Note that I didn't have a proper price value for the Grenzer, so it could very well be an additional 8 points from the Securitate Combi, making him 31 points. I just figured a LI or MI level of points was likely for the guy.

Same thing as the PanO set: Specialists and Weapons could easily bump it up to 200 points.

For less than $70 (including tax and at MSRP), you get:
a roughly 200 point army
3 D20's
templates + markers
gaming mat + terrain
Ruler
soft cover version of the rules (otherwise free online)
That's assuming you're splitting the thing, of course.

Some tournaments are even run at 200 points. This is literally a $70 buy-in for a tournament legal (not necessarily powerful) set.

Compared to WM/H 2-player starters.

For roughly $60 (including tax and at MSRP), you get:
a roughly 20-25 point army
rules (normally not provided free)
dice
ruler
Very few WM/H tournaments will run anything but a Mangled Metal event at 25 (a standard point level) points. Mangled Metal events are rare. The "typical" point levels for tournaments are 35 and 50 points. This would mean to reach 35 points (roughly our 200 point equivalent in Infinity), you'd have to spend (usually) $30-40 additional. To reach 50 points, you're likely spending an additional $60-80. That's assuming you aren't "required" to buy the really expensive stuff because they're just that good rules-wise. As a WM/H player, I can say for certain that Icestorm is a much better deal.

That's my morning tirade / $0.02.

Ah, sorry, I was just using those as sorts of place-holders as those are the points levels I'd imagine those two will be at, if not more.

The Knight Hospitalier seems like a good base for the Father Knight and the Moira seems a good base for the Healer.

Remember that you can use Fusiliers in the NCA and the MO, so I'd say that this set is very good for just about any PanOceania player aside from those interested in ONLY playing the ASA, as they can only use one model out of the 6.

ODD and TO against a force with only one MSV and no alternative way other to "bear with it" ? I hope PanO has something else up its sleeve. The mileage you get from Akal commando goes down exponentially after the first game.

WM/Hordes, WH have more economical starters. You can say WH has it below the market price. It's always been a pain to catch up to the standard playing format, but that's why I love skirmish games. I don't consider it advantage of Infinity but rather advantage of skirmish level games. If for instance WH community would run more Border Patrol or 40k in 40 minutes and PP its tooth and claw, chances are I'd still play those games. Alas they don't.

If I'd start again, I'd still go for blister and blister purchase, figure it out what works and what doesn't. I've learned by now that starter boxes are mostly good to get your feet wet but ultimately you'll need to learn what works and what doesn't. Some deals are better off than others. YMMV with them.

With Icestorm I'm mainly interested in new Fusiliers and Akal, the knight and ORC, though they might have nice sculpts do not. Unless both models would have mind blowing potential, which I sincerely doubt.

As a new player, this set appeal to me. I don't have any templates yet and very little scenery. I'm curious to see how much scenery they have in the box.

I don't have much interest in either factions, but I'm hoping my friends do.

I'm guessing there will be relatively few actual scenery objects (low cover and such). I think the play mat itself will simulate terrain, sort of like a game board (for example, thick black borders denoting infinitely high walls and that type of thing). That's really the only way to get enough terrain into the box to actually play a game of Infinity, and O:IS is supposed to be playable as is. Especially since the game doesn't scale down to 2'x2' very well , which is still probably more physical terrain coverage than we can reasonably expect out of it for the price.

Then again, they could have packed it with a bunch of simple card board buildings I guess.

Not to mention, you will actually use at the very least the Fusiliers or the Alguaciles in most of the further games you play. I never used the warjacks from the Cygnar battlebox with any regularity. Not sure if the same holds for the current WM starter.

I'm also thinking the same, maybe some scatter terrain, but that's it. Probably be a Heroclix style map, top-down view with lines marking walls/buildings out.

I'm still not sure about whether a playmat will suit the gameplay of Infinity. But I've got a whole shed load of WotC Dungeon Tiles to have a trial run with, see how they play out.

Three words
• Building
• Infiltration.
• Scenarios.

Seriously. Why should all Infinity games take place on city blooks with tons of jersey barriers and parked cars or extremely cluttered woodland? Why is no one playing boarding actions on space ships and space stations, kidnapping important corporate figures from office buildings, infiltrating military bases for information, or assassination government officials in their mansions?

Because it takes a lot of highly specialized terrain. Rooms and corridors, which are very expensive, as well as rarely seen on the shelves at FLGSs and clubs.

The solution is interior playmats. Add some scatter terrain - desks, chairs, boxes, beds, etc - and you're golden. They could easily be way cheaper than corridors. Heck, if I had the artist chops and any interest in going into business, I'd try to sell these myself.
