N3 BOOKS DELAY: Due to Printing

by VisOne » December 7th, 2014, 10:19 pm

There has being a little scuttlebut around the place about a delay so our own Scarecrow set forth to get the real information.

I spoke with Bostria earlier and he confirmed the following info regarding the N3 book release:

- There was a 1 week printing delay
- Books are due to arrive at CB HQ on the 12/12/14.
- Shipping from CB to distributors/stores/direct pre-orders will happen over the next week
- Outside of that timeframe, CB obviously cant guarentee when books will begin arriving in the different countries.
- Any PDF version of the rules will not be released for at least 3 months after the release of the book, but thats at CBs discression and the time frame could be pushed out further for pdf release. So if you want rules ASAP, i highly recommend getting what will be the awesome books.

Thats from Bostria its confirmed a small delay totally nothing worth getting your panty in a knot about.

Haven't posted in the official forums I keep away from there due to the panty knotters liking to congregate there.

Someone who likes dealing with them is welcome to. Source is good much better than the last Wayland Games quote at least. :P

Tiresome. Lol. Scorch, You're too polite ;)

Koni should have posted this news himself though. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception day in Spain tomorrow, FWIW. So maybe we'll have some "Official" announcement on Tuesday. It seems that it ships to distributors starting on the 15th, and so we won't see it in the US for at least 2 weeks after that, so the 29th at the earliest here. You Continentals should fare better.

You probably have seen also the announcement about 15 mm line being on hold. Or killed. Not clear. Because one distributor said a stronger thing and then he said not sure about the status. So now I doubt anybody knows is the Romans/Celts/etc are being Exrahed. :curious:

CB PR as usual. :high:

I think only valid info is when FLGS sales person says "look at the shelf there" or the courrier driver says "please sign here". :toot: And similar thing can be applied to the "N3 replaces only the basic book", with the new info about PDF being on hold for 3 months. So 3 months with wrong profiles for all the HS/C:P profiles? No, really, why waste time waiting or speculating...

They really deserve to get a Savo inspired present the 28th, a tool to help them communicate better. (28 is not a typo, but the perfect day)

The 15mm line being on hold is fact. They're not available at CB's online store. However, IIRC CB stated that it's only temporary until the whole Icestorm+N3 rush hour passes.

I was under the impression that Army 4 will be updated more-or-less instantly, as soon as N3 ships. I mean, they've had how long since sending the files to the printer?

I am very annoyed that the new rules PDF will not be available until sometime in 2015, because I don't have the $$$ to drop on a new book right now and would like to be able to start learning N3 sometime soon...

In some point of the talks, it was taken that the line had been killed. The guy ordered everything left based on that. Last time he claimed it was temporary but could be definitive. No soothing words from CB yet. Total chaos. :pennsive:

Current piggy flash only use was to be butchered into logos. ;)

No, really, it's huge, slow and some brands never supported the format (others are removing support). I heard they got a new web guy... which based in last experiences all over the web... :dejected:

Just the ball version, so they communicate a lot better. That is, stay quiet and let facts do the rest. Upcoming 28th is like April 1st in other places, BTW.

The rules have NEVER been available as a download immediately. There's ALWAYS been a delay between the new stuff as a book and a free download. This said, they did mention something about the HS/CP units getting an update when the N3 rules get released - as well as the HTML based army builder (so the non-flash systems can run it, and other systems that can run flash can run it without having to wait all day for it to load).

Well, it looks much like CB are a victim of their own success. Again.

Well. I was - form the beginning - hoping that I'll have the book for Christmas (and I'd be damn happy of such a turn of events). While that is still possible, I guess it will rather be New Year.

I just hope CB is going to release the army builder soon. It will stop a lot of bad stuff being generated by the anxious players, especially those who decided they prefer to use downloadable rules.

Nice rules, nearly excellent miniatures, poor management (especially logistics) and bad PR habits.
Now I understand why Infinity isn't No1 on the market, but has a chance to become.

WH40K:
Rules that don't make sense, game balance is non-existant, pay 2 win mechanic with endless expansions, supplements and formations, ZERO (nada, nothing, zilch, null, void) PR, minis that look like they were made 20 years ago, prices vary greatly for similar looking kits and some are just nuts.
They do however have great logistics.

Warmahordes (not that much experience with this):
Good rules, possibly good balance? Aesthetics are outdated but they are good quality. Battlefields look the most boring of any tabletop game I've ever seen.

Infinity:
Rules are a mess to read, but balance is good. Minis are of the highest quality and design, but being a really, really small company their logistics suffer. Best looking battlefields of any game out there. Relatively low entry cost.

I don't understand why Infinity ISN'T the no1 on the market, but I agree they have the chance to become one.

My guess is that the PDFs are delayed so that the actual books can be globally distributed. We in North America probably won't start to see the books until Mid-January. I suspect the Australians won't see them until mid-February at the earliest. So the PDFs will wait until after the Antipodeans have a chance to get the physical books. Seems fair to me.

Feel free to thank them for the delay... and for Mel Gibson. :glomp:

I for one will be glad to see the flash version of Army Builder taken off to live on a farm upstate XD

Woah. I sincerely hope that this is not true. I mean, yes, we live at the arse end of the world. But normally the minis dont take that long to get here. A few weeks, yes, but not until February. Paradiso did not take that long to ship.

The digital product will be online soon, but not until CB has delivered their N3 books to the pre-orders, which is a good business move in my eyes. And they are a business after all.
They do not 'owe' us anything. ;) It's already a nice gesture they will in the near future put their rules online for free.

Hopefully you have a mate or someone else in you gaming group who has a book that you can peruse.

On the other hand, I completely understand the commercial realities of getting the book out and corresponding delay in a free PDF version. Corvus Belli does need to pay the bills and compensate their staff for creating the models that we all love.

I just think the release date was chosen poorly. Stuff happens, a few days, week or two of delay isn't end of the world. but combined with December logistics...

Not that it matters much. It'll be here when it'll be here. I think we all have stuff to do/play in the meantime.
I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but shouldn't we just take the warning labels off everything and let the problem deal with itself?

Some delay, yes. I do not remember there being 3+ months between the release of N2 and the pdfs, or between Paradiso and the PDFs. A couple weeks, tops.

This said, they did mention something about the HS/CP units getting an update when the N3 rules get released - as well as the HTML based army builder (so the non-flash systems can run it, and other systems that can run flash can run it without having to wait all day for it to load).

The secret to getting Army 4 to load quickly is to save a copy onto your desktop. You will see two new icons. One is a folder full of the data files. The other is the actual executable. Loads instantly.

While the new unit profiles and skills from Paradiso were out fairly promptly, I'd point out that the campaign rules remain in hard copy only.

Yes, and then you have to do it ALL over again when they add profiles to it. Including the stupidly long load times.
This is why things like aleph toolbox and mayanet exist. Not just because of the flash issues. Both load a lot faster.

I'd prefer not to have to deal with that crap at all. This isn't the 90s. You shouldn't have to go make a coffee whilst something loads.

I looked at the flash...
Image
specially if you are billed per byte. But all those redundant big images are getting a good use now.

Being flash or being HTML, I think you can fumble in all cases. We better cross fingers. Latest CB shop update broke "open in new tab/window" for example. And other things are of dubious purpose (anti copy? you served the data, it's already copied) or just buggy.
