Interest Checks

by Hero of Man » November 8th, 2014, 4:03 pm

So I've already said I'd like to try running this on the forum, and I have a couple of ideas; I might run two of them, depending on interest.

1. Mercenaries
A Private Military Corporation game, should be the easiest to plug and play numerous concepts and do just about anything. I'd present numerous employers and opportunities. This one I'm definitely going to run.

2. Racers
Entirely dependent on what kind of vehicle rules come with the game, I think a game about a team of bike racers on the most dangerous circuit in the sphere. Sanctioned and Unsanctioned races that will bring fame and infamy to the up and coming racing team, as well as offers to fix races or represent corps and political interests. This would give a really good chance to test the vehicle mechanics.

3. Future/Space Cops
Lots of possibilities; Celestial Guard, Moderators, 0-12 Team, etc. Would be more inspired by cop movies and hardboiled detective stuff. Would be fun for murder mystery and abusing police authority, as well as seeing just how far a good/bad cop will go to catch the badguy/get promoted.

Interest Checks

Nice. I like all ideas. Depending on required time investment I'd play all of it. While I consider 2 the most interesting idea because it's not to close to tabletop it's also the least apealling to me personally - although I love my aragotos I'm not into race sports. Biker gangs ins some neo-Tokyo on the other hand ...

You're talking about Akira here, aren't you?
Depending on the time needed to join, you can considere me interested no matter the scenario.
Are you planning to do it as a forum RPG or via Hangout or Skype?

>Biking
I'm honestly not a huge racing fan either, but this idea is more Mad Max/Redline(2009 anime movie) than... uh, whatever the NASCAR equivalent of motorcycles is. There would be non-race sessions of course, and if the party was all Aragoto recruits...

>Forum or Hangout
Probably via forums, as my availability shifts considerably; anytime we're short handed my shifts slide one way or the other. On the plus side, I can access Data-Sphere at work, so managing the forum game is really convenient for me.

Great. I'd also prefer the forum as our weapon of choice.
How do you plan to do the "mechanical" part? I'd recommend to just let the players declare intent and then you doing all the involved rolling to speed things up. Else, there'll probably be a lot of delay (that was the case in the forum RPGs I did up to now).

If this would be a forum RPG, then I'm definitely in. This is just cause I don't use Hangouts and I don't have dedicated time for Skype sessions. I'd prefer a constant forum slowplay mode.
I'll play either scenario, I even see no margins between this three. A couple of former law enforcers that established a racing team, they are semi-successful racers, but their dark past reminds about itself and they look towards becoming free lances.
If there would be a poll, then I'm for "racers team" scenario. Reminds me about the times when I was a Formula 1 fan and "Michel Valiant" movie. If vehicles rules would be poor in the end, then there is an "Aristeia!" in the world of Human Sphere (hey, Modiphius, this is an idea for a full supplement ;-) ).

Got it in one; intent of actions and I'd write up the results.

That's always an option, but I like to go with a few specific themes per game/genre for my brain's sake.

@M2Cat
I didn't get the impression that you're pushing, I just like to explain my thought process is all. Feel free to suggest/discuss/etc. anything you want about the game; I love player agency. After all, just cause I'm the DM, it's hardly just 'my game.' I welcome all input and ideas, but cannot guarantee that I will use them all. :P

I'm game for any of the 3. If we run the Cops game, can I drag my Chimera back out to play?

I would like to request 2 threads, though. One in-character, and one out-of-character. Also, I'd like to ask for a ... faster response time than the RP threads in the official forum. Maybe once every two days for updates? Daily would be better, but that may be a bit too often.
“I'm curious, son. When has 'This might be a trap' ever stopped you?”
“Stopped? Never. Slowed me down while I load the guns? Every time.”

If we end up doing Moderators, aka M.O.D.S or MODSQUAD, then I see no problem, as long as the character creation allows for such. I don't mind starting people as the equivalent of 'mid-level' types if the game pegs everyone starting off at Average LI level. I really hope they flesh out Bakunin some more...

I'm down with two days with chance of daily if everyone can keep pace, as well as IC and OOC threads.

Count me in for racing/hardboiled.

Hell, if you're adept enough, run the two campaigns simultaneously with multiple groups and have interactions at various points (assuming the biker team isn't entirely ethical and that the cop team was assigned that particular case).

The closest I'd come to parallel games are cameos or references; its too much of a head ache to juggle two games in one around six to eight people's different schedules in different groups.
