Would be a nice christmas gift if I got into the playtesting group. I've been RP gamer since D&D 2nd edition. I still have the books too.

Modiphius seem like a good partner too. Their Achtung Cthulhu is nicely done.

Wonder if they'll have anything to preview at London Dragonmeet

This is very good news as i greatly enjoy d&d/pathfinder and cthulu etc. And will attract non-wargamers to play in the infinity universe.

Two very smart moves from corvus belli recently in my opinion:
*cardboard terrain (overcoming a major cost hurdle to getting people to play infinity).
*role playing game (much wider audience role playing is almost a national past time in europe).

Only minor downside of this is the 'Star Wars Edge of the Empire' game has very bad reputation in role playing groups for badly written rules. But hopefully this is not the case in infinity.

I actually felt the opposite. EotE is one of my favorites and I am happy to know its designer was behind this system as well. Its approach is radically different from D&D/PF.. but to say it's bad, that's not my experience.

So, anyone down for trying this out on the 'sphere? I might be bothered to try DMing it, unless the combat system makes it too complicated for message boards.

Text based you mean? Never tried that style of play before. Have had some experience with Hangouts/Skype media, and that was cool. But DS misses that function :(

I'm not big into forum based RPGs but might give it a try if I can meet the time demands. Playing via hangout is cool but I'm not sure if the language would be an issue.

Forum is undeniably slower, but for people in different time zones/work schedules, along with language barriers it can be the only option.

The IRC was about realtime (hangouts, skype), not slow paced (forum, email).

And IRC can also be slow paced. All you need is a constant connection. :v:

Ah, I see. I haven't used IRC since my ADND DM disappeared.

Other reason I was considering the forum was to encourage more... I dunno, activity round here. :P

I have suffered several disappointments recently so I am a bit skeptic about it. However, I am deffinatelly in and I would like to playtest as well. I haven't played Edge of Empires, Mutant Chronicles or anything in 2D20 but I am very curious.

Also, I have some "play by post" experiance so I am in.

Fromy my experience, actual mechanics used for a play-by-forum game are of little to no consequence.

The GM uses whichever he likes. Players tend to have only contact with it during character creation.

We're in it for the story, not the dice rolls, after all :)

I'm all up for doing a "play-by-post" of the playtest/release.

Scorch/Arachas, what do you guys think about adding a new section to the boards for that? Guess it could also fall into the realm of "Other Games", though.

Nah, I think the RPG can get his own section. I am planning to give it some good coverage on the blog, so I don't think it should be swept under by other games. It's enough Infinity to be considered a product of the game. ;)

Play by post-section is a good idea, though!

I agree with both of those thoughts.

It's the official, licensed Infinity RPG, it should have a section all it's own on the boards.

Having a play-by-post section is almost required. I mean, we made it work in the 'stories' thread on the official forum, but I'd rather have a dedicated RP area, maybe with both in-character and out-of-character sections if we're going to see many online RPs.

I might get back to you on that. I've no experience whatsoever with an RPG on a forum (only on the diner table ;) ), and don't know what people need for it to function. An out-of-character section isn't something I would have come up with

We're already discussing to create a board section especially for the RPG behind the scenes, and we've established contact with Modiphius too. :) I think this is going to work out great!

Just my 5c to this topic.
I think that Infinity RPG should be story-driven rather than combat-driven game. I'm looking it fall towards storytelling boardgames (but I'm not experienced enough to write any prominent names).
I think that Data-Sphere's community would be a good gametesting platform and I believe that it could make significant investment into it's development.
I'm not any kind of RPG-player, but want to get fresh experiences. I'll take part in test/full games with "virgin noob" sign above my head. No doubt that Infinity RPG would be comfortable for veteran players, but if green noobs like me could manage to catch it on the fly then it will have really great potential.

I agree. We have a pure combat-driven game. Would be a waste of potential if the RPG focussed solely on that. Still, I'd like the option to have it both ways. Shooting people up just might be the answer to a situation.

I guess the community would be happy to have you aboard! I agree on your suggestion of this community being a good platform for game-testing.

Sure we got some :) can we get a sample of the game mechanics you intend to use for Infinity RPG?

http://www.rpgnow.com/product/126929/Mu ... -Open-Beta

That's the free Beta for Mutant Chronicles - the 2d20 rules have changed a bit since it was put out, but it's a starting point. Actually the origins of the system were first inspired by Infinity - we were developing MC and playing Infinity - and had been trying different dice pools, then we thought, why not try several d20's...and that where the road started :-)

Thank you :)

Well, I'm not 100% sold on the "light wound" concept, especially it being specific to different body locations, and the ability to heal them with one's actions/ Chronicle Points (I come from a really old style of R.Tal's Interlock and WEG's d6 powering some of my favourite RPGs), though I have to give it a more thorough read perhaps.

What I really dislike is the Dark Symmetry pool, I hope it won't have an equivalent in the Infinity version of the rules. I mean, if a Game Master needs to affect dice rolls result or throw a wrench into players' wheels, he just does so. He's the GM.

What I also dislike - there's no way to take skill checks easier than Average, and - moreover - the mechanics seems like they don't make it possible. You always need at least one Success to pass a test, and that's an Average test.

The mechanics don't look to be easy to tweak / houserule, but then again, I can't be sure without getting some experience with the system.

All in all - primarily hope that you don't turn it into a combat-oriented RPG...

:D

The idea with light wounds is that they're a measure of exhaustion, of scrapes, bruises, the combat is wearing you down before you really start to take wounds that hurt. Taking a pause helps you clear some of that, get your breath back.

We are still looking at whether there will be a similar pool in Infinity - of course the GM can do anything and I do when I play, the pool is a great way of building up tension amongst players though, and it actually brings the GM in to the game more and is great for structuring play for new GMs - you'll see when you try it. However there will also be a mod to not use it and show what you need to do.

It won't be combat orientated, but it will do combat scenes beautifully
