Flocked!

I then made the river more brown and started with the water effects, but that's taking a long time to dry. I'll post pictures of the final result when that's done.

Seeing it painted, it looks great!

One thing bugs me, and it's the very circular nature of the rock in the bottom right of your last picture. I'd recommend putting some foliage (thick bushes or something) to break up that shape. Maybe it'll look better with the building on it, but it just really stands out to me from the top-down perspective.

Yeah, hard to see in the picture, but there are shrubs and wildflowers growing on it at intervals.

Make sure at least one of them is a Cherry tree! It ain't Japan without sakura.

I found some very nice pre-made cherry trees at Hobbytown a while back, they're in the storage unit waiting for my JSA table build.

I'll try and give it a looksee. I'll try and get a picture up this weekend. But I leave for a month-long trip to Taiwan Monday morning which will put a hurt on my hobby time.

I got my Prefecture of Ryu minis in as well as a Jade Mamba Guard for my Ito Clan. Also got both sets of faction card add-ons for some cool customization potential.

Demoed it twice and now have a Silvermoon Trade Syndicate player and potentially a Prefecture of Ryu player.

After comparing, I definitely think Kensei has better minis.

Does anyone know about game size?

Great fun to play on and a great first attempt at terrain. Sadly, this will be on hold for about a month as I travel to Taiwan.

Thanks for looking!!!

You might consider using a brown wash on the red painted pieces and seal those with some semi-gloss varnish. The red is usually a lacquer in Japan, from my experience, and ends up being quite smooth and just that hint of shiny as well as having rich dark tones to it. Beyond that small nitpick, that's a great looking table!

Thanks! It's a lot of fun. I made this board for use at home, but am planning on bringing it out for play when I get back to the US from Taiwan.

Re: Bushido The Game

by Mistake Not » November 30th, 2014, 4:16 pm

Such a vibrant board, I love it. Seems like it'd make The Messenger a bit difficult, at least with the building(s) there.

Played that scenario yesterday, had a great game. I lost 0-3 of course, as I was playing the guy who's won the last few tournaments. His Wave (Yusha, Tashio, two Slaves, Tra-Peng, and the giant bat) faught my Ito (Kaihime + teachings, Naoko, Ayako, Satsuki, and Chiyo) and it ended up that he lost everything but the bat and I only lost Naoko. Since Naoko was my messenger and the bat was his the game still went to him, but killing both Yusha and Tashio with Orochi poison felt oh so very good. Kaihime managed to shoot Yusha once, then he attacked her in melee. She boosted, using Ki stolen from the Wave then channeled, took a small hit but got some wounds and two more poison 2 through; side stepped while remaining in BtB to allow Chiyo a long charge he hadn't seen coming. After her attack Yusha was on 3 life, with 4 poison 2 markers.. Satsuki Accelerated, one damage to him, and a Poison 3.. which did 2 damage end of turn, ending the Oni.

First time he'd lost any of his Oni to poison. :D

Having two Shisai together is so amazing. Two psychic drains with Force of Will means I never have to focus, I just steal all the opposing Ki. Clan Ito has all the nastiest tricks.

Yeah we do. The effectiveness of stacking poison is terrifying to my opponents as well. Once they see what happens in the End Phase they try to avoid me if they can. Lol. I've played The Messenger on the board twice now. No problems. Played against Savage Wave and Prefecture of Ryu. I smacked the Savage Wave down, but the Prefecture of Ryu wiped me out.

Already thinking of a second board.

When I get home I will paint up some Savage Wave as a commission for a friend and then my Prefecture of Ryu, and then start planning board two. I can't seem to attach pictures from my phone.

I've seen some really nice buildings from Renaissance Miniatures.

I supported them on their kickstarter, they have some nice models that very nearly assemble themselves. I'm talking about "shake the box" levels of simple for most of their kits (some other kits are quite a bit more challenging, usually the itty-bitty accessories). Pre-colored, too, and most of the half-timbered buildings you just push out the panels on the "black" side and turn them around to show the "white" side.

In that case, check out 4Ground's models. They're precolored and have a little sheet of teddy bear fur to use for the thatched roof included in the kit. Just soak the teddy bear fur in diluted PVA glue before installing it.

So apparently me showing off Bushido and my minis paid off.

I'm in Taiwan for another week but two guys ordered starter boxes. One Cult of Yurei and one Temple of Ro Jan. Add those to my Savage Wave playing friend and a coming Silvermoon Trade Syndicate and that there's the start of a community.

Score!

You might want to consider making a non-permanent Bushido board, because you could easily cross-purpose the terrain to JSA use. Even in the middle of Tokyo, there were some small shrines and the like where suddenly there just wasn't any modern building to be seen.

Or at least leave one or two cherry trees on separate bases.

Yeah. The trees won't be permanent so I can move them around in different games and boards.

Not going to bother with making an Infinity board honestly. Too much for me to cart about and my local store has many boards worth of good terrain I can use whenever I need it. These are dessert really.
