QK Scarface-centric list advice?

by EvinW » January 21st, 2015, 10:05 am

Hi guys,

I've been back into Infinity for six months now, and I've mostly been playing QK. A few months ago I picked up Scarface and Cordelia, and I ran into some problems.

- Scarface isn't the best of tags. He is a bit fragile, and he doesn't shoot that hard.
- Cordelia ins't the best of engineers. WiP 13 made me destroy Scarface on some occasions instead of repairing him.
- Like any tag he is the prime target of hackers.

One of the things I came up with was combining him with a Kaplan link team. The Kaplan Engineer is a bit better in repairing, and giving him the ADHL makes him effective against sneaking remotes with repeaters. The spitfire is nice against, as is the msr.

However, I have no clue how to go on from here. Any thoughts?

Scarface isn't the best of TAGs, that's true. However, keep in mind that he's the cheaperst one (47pts for a TAG beats the Gecko by quite a few points).

Cordelia is, of course, not as good Engineer as the Kaplan (or Najjarun), but she's on the average level most other factions' Engineers do show. Plus she has Mimetism.

My advice on Scarface was always "use him and not be afraid to lose him". Cordelia can perhaps fix him (65% chance, which is not bad - naturally, Kaplan's 70% chance is better, but only minimally), though you'd surely make it easier for her if you assigned her a Nasmat.

I'm not yet accustomed to the N3 rules fully but I guess the old "if Cordelia's OK, then the team doesn't count as lost) is no longer applicable, now, when we have separate points costs for team models.

Still, if you managed to make a big enough dent in the enemy force, it is acceptable to lose Scarface. And apply whatever you held as your second optionpreferably a Link Team well-capable of offensive operations. Kaplan are such a Link, though having both MSR and Spitfire is going to be rather SWC costly.

ADHL as an anti-REM weapon? I see no point. All the REM in existence have no more than ARM 3 (and the basic Repeater ones are ARM 0), so standard Rifle fire should be better in getting rid of them. Remeber that a Glued down Repeater is still a repeater, it just can't scuttle around. A repeater with a few bullet holes in it, though... does not Repeat anything any longer.

Use the ADHL against enemy TAGs, HI and other targets that wouldn't be elliminated with a single Rifle bullet. For REMs (save for YJ Remote Presence HI), ordinary guns work better.

OK, Cordelia, Scarface and a quintet of Kaplan make for 7 models. I'd add an al'Hawwa shotgunner (hacker or FO, your choice), perhaps a Shihab REM (being a TAG, Scarface allows you to field REMs even if there is no Hacker in your list) and either a Djanbazan, or a Bashi Bazouk.

I have no access to an army builder capable of handling an N3 QK list, so I can't give you exact point values...

Scarface & Cordelia 64 1.5 300
Nasmat 3
Hafza Lt w/ Spitfire 22 1
Al'Hawwa Hacker 26 0.5
Ghulam Panzerfaust 15 0.5
Ghulam Sniper 16 0.5
Ghulam Doctor 16
Ghulam 12
Ghulam HMG 20 1
Yaun Yaun DA 9

Group 2
Djanbanzan Sniper 31 0.5
Rafiq 16
Fanous 8
Kameel Minesweeper 8
Ghulam Hacker 20 0.5
Ghulam Deployable repeater 14

I am thinking something like this for my Scarface list.

I am thinking that my hafza will pose as a LGL Druze. Which brings me to my other list.

Scarface & Cordelia 64 1.5 300
Nasmat 3
Druze LGL 23 1.5
Al'Hawwa Hacker 26 0.5
Ghulam Panzerfaust 15 0.5
Ghulam Sniper 16 0.5
Ghulam Doctor 16
Ghulam 12
Ghulam Lt HMG 20 0.5
Yaun Yaun Shock 8

Group 2
Djanbanzan Sniper 31 0.5
Rafiq 16
Fanous 8
Kameel Minesweeper 8
Ghulam Hacker 20 0.5
Ghulam Deployable repeater 14

I actually like Scarface quite a lot. He is like an Azrail with 4 inches more movement a damage 15 spitfire, panzerfaust and oh yeah a third wound. For 6 more points and 0.5 less SWC. Cordelia is a worthy use of 17 points for a specialist with mimetism and courage.

The frenzy is rough though. But we wouldn't get the rest of the package without it.

I can't decide if I want the LGL or I want to keep my lt out of the link.

I think I will have to try both. Probably going to whip out list 1 after I get people used to list 2.

Definitely - try both and see which one fits better with your style.

I'd rethink composition of individual Combat Groups. Scarface is going to be Order-intensive. So will be al'Hawwa.
The Ghulam Link is obviously your secondary attack force (and it is adequately equipped for that), though I'd add the Ghulam Deployable Rpeeater to it just for that case: you could be operating close to enemy, and need a timely Hacker intervention.

I'm not sold on Yuan Yuan under these N3 rules. Perhaps he should be swapped with someting form the group #2 - he-s Order-hungry too, and you'll have to either spend an Order on him to keep him in the air, or spend more Orders on him to do something useful before he dies.

My main argument for kicking the Deployable repeater guy out of the group is the way AROs work vs link teams. If any member of the team is in LOF when he places his stuff my opponent can shoot them unopposed.

Since I want to use them as a defensive link and to have them do things like watch objectives I am thinking that him being in the link creates risk for the team.

If I end up dropping the Yaun Yaun I think adding another fanous remote would be a good replacement. If I could figure out a good place to find a 0.5 SWC I would really consider swapping out the Deployable repeater Ghulam for an EVO repeater Kameel remote.
