Need help choosing minis

by OokamiTSK » March 15th, 2016, 7:31 am

Ok so I started playing Infinity about a month ago and I love it, and now im playing in an League and basically I will be head to head with each army (Our group is pretty diverse) and there are all kinds of objectives. I have been borrowing a friends army, but I want an army of my own and I really want to go with Ariadna. Long story short next week we are doing a 120 pt game (Which is not hard to fill out) but by the end we will be up to 300pts, and i was wondering what would be the most cost efficient minis to buy to be able to create a solid army without breaking bank? no preference on sectorial armies (Although i am really liking the Highlanders), im just looking for something I can outfit to vs different armies efficiently.

Most cost-efficient minis are CA and Aleph. If you want Ariadna, you've already picked the single worst point, budget-wise.

And I'm not sure how to help you, most people tend to embrace Ariadna's cheap hordes.

I wanted to go Ariadna because i really like the minis (And thats half the reason you pick an army in these types of games lol) And also no one in my group is playing them, and we managed to stay pretty diverse so far and i wanted to keep the trend (With me playing Ariadna there will now be one of each faction being played)
so this is the list i have in my check out for minis im going to buy. Iooking for input before I buy, also im going for a Caledonia army.(Getting some of them for looks, my group is very awesome with allowing proxys so my figure dose not need so show load-outs, also Im not sure but i think Infinity players in general are cool about proxys)
- Uxia Mcneill, Covert Action Operative (1)
- 9th Wulver Grenadiers Reg. Box (4)
- William Wallace (EXP, CCW) (1)
- Caledonian Volunteers (Rfl,Lt GL) (2)
- Caledonian Highlander Army Sectorial Starter Pack (6)
- 45th Highlander Rifles "Galwegian" Unit Box (4)

I figured this would be a good start since this weekend is still 120pt then the next two weekends after that are only 150pt. any thoughts or changes to make?

Ariana can do non-horde. Although we don't have 88pt+ TAG or 'true' HI monstrosities, we still have options to go more 'elite'.

Below is a quick 12-model army I threw together. 5 specialists means it can do ITS if that's what you play. Otherwise it should be fairly well-rounded. 4 sources of DTW and 2 MSV1 for camo-hunting, plus a little Sixth Sense. An Infiltrator with D-charges, and a back-up D-charger in case the Scout bites it. Van Zant to destroy the enemy DZ, with the Ambush Camo HMG Spetnaz to make your opponent think your first combat group is at full strength. In addition to their MSV, the Mavericks have smoke to let your specialists push buttons in peace and quiet. An HMG, AP HMG, and an Autocannon for cracking amor, with the Autocannon pulling sniper duty in a pinch (range bands are the same IIRC).

What kind of a 150-200 list can be made out of those models

2 wulvers with swords
1 uxia with shotgun
1 cameronian
1 mormear with HMG
2 highlander grey with HMG
4 volenteers with rifles
2 volenteers with chain rifles
1 volenteer with HMG
1 volenteer with GL
2 SAS
1 dozer with control box
1 scot guard with rifle
1 scot guard with GL
1 scot guard with 2 SMG

And do I miss any essential models, that should be bought? I have no expiriance with ariadna, or infinity in general.

I haven't played Scots, but assuming ITS it'd be:
- core fireteam of Volunteers - HMG, paramedic, 2x rifle (1 is LT), chain. If you have the points you could upgrade the HMG to a Grey Rifle. The paramedic is not there for the healing but because he's an ITS specialist, and I took 2 plain rifles so that the LT isn't immediately obvious.
- Cameronian (harasser, terror unit)
- SAS forward observer, Uxia covert version (two infiltrating specialists)
For 150 points, I'd just add one Volunteer with infiltration/D-charges (in case you get Sabotage and Uxia bites it, also a very cheap "infiltrator" you can put in suppressive and forget about) and fill the points with Volunteer chains (extra orders) or rifles/paramedics (more defensive, extra specialists)
For 200 points I could try to get a Scot Guard fireteam duo (not convinced if they're so good at it tho) or get an extra Wulver and make a haris team (pricey brick that wrecks face while the Volunteers give fire support).
In either variant I'd really really miss like 2 chain Galwegians, so go grab them :P

And do I miss any essential models, that should be bought? I have no expiriance with ariadna, or infinity in general.

For Scots?
- Galwegians (chain rifles; don't bother with rifle/BS ones or get more chains and convert them)
I'd recommend a HMG Grey Rifle as an insert into a Volunteer fireteam.

For vanilla Ariadna?
HMG Spetsnaz
Irmandinhos
rifle Chasseurs (or Foxtrots, but Chasseurs have flamers so there's an option of a suicide charge against TO/ODD)

In both cases, add a Warcor.

Don't think I know what a Warcor is, and am sure I do not have a model for him, or her. Thanks for the list advice.

It's a 3pt irregular model with flash pulse. In other words, pesky ARO, another pair of eyes to Discover, and a Soviet-style mine/koala-sweeper.
That's why it's on the "must-buy" list :v:

Cool. Seems to be new type of unit. On the other hand it looks like my parents decided to clean up my stash in their basment. No more old models, maybe I'll start USariadna or a rusian sectorial, if there is one. New models look awesome, so maybe it is for the better.

There's no russian sectorial yet. That'll be a couple of years away (hopefully - it just means another army for me to avoid).
The yanks are pretty flavour of the picosecond, though - although the local meta has moved away from them and seems to be embracing the oppression, not so much the "freedoms" nowadays - Red Veil has reignited people on the Great jade dragon.

If it means fewer "' 'murca, feck yeah!" then I'm all for it.
