So, obviously an illegal list, it's 8 points over, but this is a handy way of asking what I ought to drop to save the points :D
Also, it's everything I plan to pick up to get started with this lot. Not in a rush, may not order them for a few weeks yet, and who knows when they will ship, I'm guessing one of these will fly off the shelves.

Does this lot look viable? It's more or less a "ohh, pretty model" list. Not a huge fan of many of the older models and that includes the Japanese Sectorial starter, but they are not so bad I wouldn't buy them/

My last few attempts at lists from Yu-Ying all only had 7 models, I didn't see that working.
So this is a list of things that look pretty, and the stuff I figured I would have to settle for to make them viable.
Any ideas on how I should form the combat groups?

Hmm... I'd probably drop either Shinobu or the Oniwaban in favor of another bike. But that's my predilection.

Realistically, you could drop one for a Ninja, whch might be a good option for keeping a similar feel of the original model without breaking the bank. Alternatively, exchange Shinobu for Saito.

First thing you'll want to do is upgrade the Kempei BS to include Chain of Command. It's incredibly useful and allows you to use your aggressive Lt.s in aggressive roles.
You'll also not be wanting to put Shinobu as your Lt. If she starts in hidden deployment, you'll start the game in Loss of Lt., regardless of Chain of Command.

I assume you'll want to perform in ITS? If so, you'll want some specialists beyond the Aragoto Hacker. Keisotsu forward observers and paramedics can do well in this role.

I could use the Oniwiban from the boxed set as a Ninja. I'd buy another bike, but I'm not a fan of duping models, not of converting.
It's something I can do, just dislike.

I'll have a play with the list. Fair point about the LT, I need her in place to ambush, not strolling about as a camo marker, so I'll have to swap her out of the command role.

Well, you should have an Aragoto combi+lsg, spitfire, hacker, and Asuka if you bought the 2 boxes. Scare up some points to bring Asuka, she is worth it! (flamethrower > light shotgun)

Domaru is a good LT, and is getting a lot better in N3.

I personally prefer more steady approach to JSA but i heard good things about lists like yours. Also i go out of the way everyone here seems to take and i build my list around a tag or two. But recently i got asuka and yojimbo so i might just change. Also it's rather either shinobu or oniwaban not both. Personally if you don't suspect multi wound (higher than 2) opponents i'd drop both, but oniwaban is so sweet i got the mini anyway. Upgrade your Kempei to CoC and make asuka or domaru a lieutenant. I advise a full link of our 9 points cannon fodder rather than just 3 of them. In future get a TAG also, or don't it's just my bias.
Hope this helps.

I've had to put these guys off for the time being, untill I see the N3 stats. Bit pointless finishing them off now as we are buying blind. Don't want to get them painted up and find out they suddenly became a 280 point list in V 3 rules :)
And after my PanO disaster I don't want to paint some now, and some more later. (I forgot what colours I mixed to achieve my Pan O Blue, nightmare.)

I'll finish this lot off sometime in Jan. Once I see the PDF's and know what I can fit in a 300 pointer with the updated rules.

Painting notebooks are your friend.

Problem is that I need to *find* my painting notebook again so I can match paints  :suicide: . Once I find it, no problem.
