JSA - need some inspiration (200-300pts)

JSA - need some inspiration (200-300pts)

Hi all,

I play JSA for something like month and a half now (those minis catch my eye instantly).
In general I have fun. I managed to win some games, made some crazy lucky rolls (like rolling critical on ARO on 3), and of course lose some.

But let's go to the point: I need a bit more of inspiration how to create army. Right now I aim in armies for 200, 250 and 300 points but I lack of idea how to creatively made them, so they still be fun to play but also have some chances in ITS missions.

So far I got: JSA Starter box, JSA Support Pack, Aragoto box, box of Yaokong Remotes, box of Yaoxie Remotes, box of Karakuris, some additional Keisotsus (2x Combi, 1x HMG), Ninja and Yuriko.

Can you guys give me some idea how to compose good team? (I really like bikes :) )

I usually start with something like this:

1 SWC | 82 Points

That's your main/cheap link team for defense and order efficiency, add stuff to taste/point size. Good "stuff":

- LT. You have your CoC Kempei so you can afford to be aggressive with it. I like Asuka Kisaragi, but plain combi Aragoto is good too. Not convinced about single Domaru due to their short range.
- Killer Hacker Ninja. Your main camo infiltrator specialist. Worth it especially if you want to include your remotes or awesome HI and are concerned about enemy hackers.
- plain Karakuri with mk12 (resilient specialist with good range weapon)
- full Karakuri link, either like in a box or 2x mk12 + combi.
- Yaokongs: Husong is good area defense, just plonk in a spot with cover and good firelanes and let it be a nuisance or die to a TO sniper. Weibing is a cheap fast specialist with sensor (triangulated fire!). Son-Bae is seldom used unless your meta is filled with TAGs, and Chaiyi is useless when you get full soldiers for +1 point.
- Yaoxie: Ruishi is very aggressive (you can take a Keisotsu/Pangguling hacker and put MM2 on it) and best used against armies with much TO Camo/ODD/smoke to best use the higher MSV. Otherwise take the Lu Duan, it's much more survivable and versatile.
- Aragoto: Claudius Sol will probably be around soon-ish to spread the gospel of a 6-bike list, but they should be here anyway. They're awesome blitzkrieg units as long as you remember that they are very glass-cannony. The hacker variant is a nice fast specialist you can circumvent exclusion zones with.
- HI core link: Usually Domaru chain (can be LT) + Domaru spitfire + Haramaki ML + 2x Haramaki contender/DA. Affectionately called the Pain Train, it's got something for every range, but needs to be used very actively to get the most of its hefty price.

I'm aware of this link, I saw some people prefer to take Missile Launcher instead of HMG in this link. I usually start with it (although I wouldn't mind to have some ridiculously cheap link, like the one Imperial Service have).

But my problem usually starts after those 5 troopers. I have troubles with selecting what more to put to reach points limit (especially when there is no limitation to single combat group) and still have chance to be competitive (have some firepower and be able to "push the buttons").

If you *really* like bikes, you need to get Asuka (and her hacker friend) and Yojimbo. Plus maybe another box of Aragoto for a second Spitfire (and a proxied or converted hacker).

If you're running Yuriko with the 'Faust, I wouldn't take the Keisotsu ML. I'd run the Keisotsu ML (in addition to the HMG) when Yuriko is packing the E/Mitter.

At 300 points, you can run Neko Oyama, a Domaru Spitfire, Haramaki ML, two Haramaki Contender/Blitzens, an O-Yoroi, Keisotsu hacker, Tokusetsu Doc and Engineer with helperbots, and a Kempeitai shottie:

I like, I have some hesistation if I want to buy more of them (Asuka and Hacker guy), but my local store has a promotion for TAGs and Bikes now, so I ordered Asuka and Yojimbo.
Moreover I try to include one or two bikes in every list I create, just to be more and more familiar with it. Right now I achieved the level when my Aragotos in most cases don't die during their first order XD

Honestly I'm not a big fan of Haramakis so far (that Extreme Impetuous so far looks like a big drawback for me, not to mention rather decent BS weapons) , but your not the first one that mentions them, so I guess, I should give them a second look and a try them with few proxies.


For 300pts with Limited Insertion so far I was using something like this:

Hey, you're already doing better than I am most games! :lol:

Remember that X-Imp doesn't apply when they're linked, so they're dirt cheap 2W badasses with either a ML or Blitzen. The ML is actually to kill troops, as a Blitzen hit or two is going to toast any HI or TAG down to IMM2.

Bikes plus all the Keisotsu (and Yuriko) is one idea. Put the specialists in the combat group with the bikes, and the link team of Keisotsu in group 2.

Your're totally right, it just slipped my mind, that linked teams are no longer Impetuous, guess I need really try them out.

I guess I need some inspiration and advice one more...
Boarding Action!
How I can create good team? (with limited insertion rule, so only one combat group)
I guess I should forget about all HMG, Missile Launchers, HRL and other long distance weapons I can just gather and throw away for that type of table...
I guess also Aragoto find here not much use... (unless I try to get them on foot and go with Asuka and that one with Combi Rifle).
I guess Domaru Burai may find here some more love as well as Karakuri with Heavy Shotgun...

a bit of comment:
Duo of Domaru, Ltd + one with Combi to have a bit more range than with Boarding Shotgun (when I'm under 8 inches I can just Assault instead of shooting)
Shikami with Combi - to have someone that has by default -6 to Shooting at me or even -12 when in Cover and in Suppressive Fire state )
Yuriko with E-Mitter - I guess Panzerfaust won't have any use here, she's here to repair Karakuris, set mines and eventually blow upsome walls
Keisotsu Hacker - to give all my HI Firewall (this is quite HI heavy list, so some protection from hacking may be useful)


what do you think about such team?

Overall, I think it will definitely work.

I'd want to find a way to squeeze in the Spitfire, but you need to find one point to do it. Maybe if you traded the Shikami's Combi for a Contender? Would mean that you'd lost that -12 to-hit unless someone is at -3 range, though.

I'm thinking about getting Authorized Bounty Hunter (the one with Bike and Boarding Shotgun) and "make it" JSA Aragoto by repainting to "correct red and white colors" :D but it's for future...

Only "need" two Spitfire boxes, Asuka and hacker box, and Yojimbo. 7 bikers total. Though you are correct, it costs you a BS model conversion. (Says the guy with No profile left unmodelled.)
