Re: Shiny new forum theme

Two things:

1) I actually really like the new theme. It's slick, user friendly, and I appreciate that the "view new posts" link is always visible no matter where I am, so I can always pop back to "browse what's newly posted" mode with a single click.

2) The forum is definitely more than a little odd on a mobile device. The view jumps up to the top of the page periodically, whether or not you click anything, and the user icons are squished. Also, the text is shoved into a very narrow band.

Personally, if I had to chose between making the mobile version more user-friendly and keeping the normal version the way it is, I'd chose the latter, but it's worth noting that the mobile version is kind of wonky.

Also, I miss having a "like" button. And silly titles as our post count increases. Any chance of getting those back?

Okay, I've removed the top site title. I might bring it back at some point to showcase partner banners, but I'll try and make those as non-intrusive as possible.

I've also removed the sidebars, as you can see.

Better? :)

As for the mobile site: this theme is supposed to be very mobile responsive. It's one of the reasons we went ahead with it. If it's not I'm going go bust down some doors with the guys who made the theme. I think mobile is getting more important by the day, so I definitely want it to work!

I'm gonna have to agree with electric paladin on this one - the mobile does all sorts if squishing on my phone .. Though it's not terrible on my tablet.

The new theme is also very wonky on my iPhone, and iPad. On the iPad its at least workable in landscape mode though, but the Digital theme works fine on both devices, though a bit of scrolling is involved on the iPhone...

Those of you on mobile devices, are you able to re-test the forums?

I've made some big changes on the mobile to improve usability and I've still got a few more things to do, but it would be good to get feedback on the changes made so I can add your feedback in when I make the next changes.

Yes please, if you could.

I've removed the "speech bubbles" with the DS icon in from the mobile version, so it should be clearer. I am aware of some squishing with certain avatar's as well. But would be good to see what you're seeing so I know what else needs tackling.

I've been using the "Digital" theme for the time being and wanted to let you know that the faction list-building subforum links are not showing quite right, with overlapping images/text. Hopefully it's not too out of place in this thread.

As for the shiny new theme, I've been not using it for the time being because it just seems to take up so very much space. It sounds like you've been working on it a lot, so I'll probably give it another spin sometime soon.

No idea why things get spread over News and Troubleshooting. There is a post requesting subsections in TS, so it would be a good place to report problems too, as well as one just for Digital bugs. Added it there. :cop:
If not worth saving, is it worth rewriting? What is more, was it worth writing?

Yeah, been we've putting in a lot of work, so if you decided not to use it based on the first couple of days it was up, do try it again. :)

It's a known issue, I've already made some little placeholder hexagons that shouldn't overlap ;)

After flipping through the various themes, I'm still sticking with Digital. The others take up a whole lot more screen real estate. Even when I'm not on a mobile, I still have the web browser up in one half-screen while I am doing other stuff on the rest of my desktop.

The new theme does look nice, but it is just not as functional for me.
