New To Infinity & Just About As Green As You Get...

by Mutley » February 26th, 2015, 8:46 am

Greetings from not so sunny Manchester!

Always nervous when picking up a new game or dipping my toes into a new forum. And today I find myself doing both!

After a year or so of drooling over some very, very pretty models & cool setting and terrain...I have elected to take the plunge myself. With the release of Operation: Icestorm, I have been presented with the perfect way in. It has been duly ordered.

While I wait for the store and postal service to do their thing I am sorting out my workbench, sorting my paints and generally getting rather excited about a new gaming project!

Welcome to the Data Sphere :)

I hope you'll like it here. While the forum is not as active as we'd like it to, it has a number of dedicated posters, a quality blog, and friendly disposition (well, we do have standards to maintain ;)).
And Infinity is a great game :)

No need to be nervous, Mutley. Manchester? As in the UK?

Plenty of gaming goes on over there, but I don't know about your specific area. To me, a Texan, the entirety of the UK seems like one metroplex. You'll want to see about finding a WarCor in your area to help you out with getting started and introducing you to the other gamers near you.

In any case, welcome to the game and Data-Sphere!

Yeah, I'm a Londoner so we probably know each other! :P

Welcome, Mutley. Good luck finding Infinity players up there in the grim North :)

I am indeed from the blighty version of Manchester. The one with all the rain.

Handily enough, I have a friend up the road who is going to be taking the plunge with me. Once we have got the rules sorted out, he will teach his son, who will teach his friends...who will soon be kicking the stuffing out of me on a regular basis.

I have to admit, I am looking forward to putting together a new gaming board for Infinity purposes. My other one is nice for historicals and fantasy...but I have never had a go at a proper Sci Fi one before. Should be good fun! I foresee me raiding my toolbox and local DIY merchants for inspiration before long.

Human Sphere is a large and diverse place - I'm sure there are patches of it that would be adequately represented by your historical / fantasy board, too!

Be sure to take a look around in some of the terrain sections of the forums! There are some craft wizards down there that might give you some good inspiration too!

Cake you say? Is it delicious and moist?

I shall certainly be having a little nosey around the forums, seeking army, painting and terrain ideas worth stealing!

Yeah, i am practically Mutley's neighbour. Being just up the road (M61). And to be fair to the Texan, Claudius Sol, having spent a few days in Fort Worth with work, I have an appreciation of where he is coming from. Everything is bigger over there! (roads, cars, trucks, factories, even the side salads, one of the best steaks i have ever eaten though)

Out of curiosity where about in Manchester are you from. A friend of mine lives Manchester (Monton?) and he has just gotten me into Infinity. I get the impression there is an Infinity scene at Element Games/North West Gaming Centre at Stockport. I also have the impression there may be a small scene at Fanboy3 in the city centre. However i have experience of neither so don't be surprised if i am completely wrong.

I am from the Stretford area. I have to admit, on the whole I do not like club or store gaming. I have had plenty of poor experiences with other games when doing so. Poor behaviour and attitudes and downright theft...not to mention...pungency in the summer months. These days I am quite content to be a garage gamer.

I am lucky in that a lot of my friends are wargamers of one sort or another so I never struggle to get a game in.
