So where's the complete list of N3 profiles?

by flintlocklaser » December 20th, 2014, 1:18 am

I'm not sure where to ask this, so if it needs to be moved to another forum please do so. But I've taken a nearly year-long break from Infinity for various reasons, and now that N3 is out I was wanting to jump back in. But I've downloaded the N3 rulebook and it seems like lots and lots of profiles are missing, and (so far as I can tell) none of the online or app list builders are updated yet.

Is there someplace to find the stats for all my old models now? Failing that, are they in the print version of the N3 rules? What's going on?

Thanks for any help, and sorry if this is a dumb question. I've tried searching but given the general excitement over N3 I am having trouble finding anything that seems to address this.

Thanks again!

As has been said many many times over the last few days (because apparently it wasn't said enough during the rumour period), the N3 core book does not replace Human Sphere or Campaign Paradiso.

These will be getting separate updates and errata to bring them in line with N3 once the files are checked and complete, but will get full N3 replacements at some point in the future.

What is more, not even all the profiles in the basic 2nd ed rule book are in the N3 book. It seems some will be pushed to new editions of HS & CP. Or to somewhere else. And this part wasn't said in the rumor period. Exrah are gone, that one is sure. Fluff says the race is not fully gone, but no more front line service for them.

So looking for a Nomad TAG or Japanese troop and going insane because "it was there"? You have to wait for the new army list PDF and online tools.

Ok, thanks. I have a friend who is interested in learning the game with me next year: so apparently we are going to have to download the old books and then go through them and the new book figuring out which ones are current and which aren't? That sounds pretty sub-optimal. I think I'm glad I missed the rumors period then.

Any idea when the missing profiles will be made available or when the official builder will be updated?

Original rumors said early next year. The PDF appeared days after the physical book. One staff member said new profiles were sent to layout phase a couple days ago. So who knows.

Better start with the N3 version, and hope that by the time you control all the skills, weapons, etc, using the provided troops, the rest appears. Wasting some weeks with previous would only increase confusion later.

Ok, thanks again. I'd played several games of 2ed, but i agree that it sounds like we'll be better off waiting for the other profiles to be released before I start back up or try to introduce it to my friend.

Grab N3 and make a small list with the profiles in the book. That will give you a small taste of N3 :)
The army lists will be out before the new year, according to Koni.

I wouldn't bother downloading the old books. I do have the pdfs of Human Sphere and Paradiso if you decide you gotta have them (dunno where they went on the new site), but there's plenty in the N3 rulebook to get you going. Off the top of my head for HS that should work without too much drama: Sectorial Army Lists, Fireteam rules, rules for civvies. Disregard ALL the weapons listed, massive changes to weapons in N3. Skills should translate pretty close to straight across, but should be cross-checked with N3, since I know there have been some changes (just can't remember off the top of my head exact details)

Any idea when the missing profiles will be made available or when the official builder will be updated?

Profiles will be done when they're finished with layout and proofreading. Last I heard, CB was not willing to take a guess at how long that would take, it will be done when it gets done.

Since the same person was compiling PDFs as was working on Army 5, I suspect that Army 5 is at a point where it needs to have the final N3 stats plugged into the database before they can do any more work on it.

Previous PDFs still avaliable via the old structure http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/en/downloads/ . Get them before they dissappear.

Thanks. I have the old books and PDFs from when I played last year and the start of this one. I'll just hold off until the statlines are available, and maybe just paint up some of my stuff in the interim.

Use the old army builder, along with external ones like Aleph toolbox.

Most armies you could make will not have drastically changed point costs. Maybe just enough for 1-2 more options. Some of the expensive links might allow you to take a whole other unit from their price decrease, but those were seldom used anyway.

Most ability names stay the same, and for things like Impetuous, you can guess which ones were extreme or not anyway.

After short research I can tell most point changes amass to 10-11% discount when counting whole army. Nothing earth-shattering, but elite armies should be easier to construct.

Which is one more 30ish-point model.

Things are going to be ugly for a little while, I think I will need to take down my "It's not your list..." banner soon!

I can't imagine a place that Army 5 would be that fake stats wouldn't work as well. Seems more likely that just doing Army stuff isn't enough work when everybody else is pulling 80 hour work weeks. :)

One thing that's notable is that outside of Impetuous troops, the unit-wide points discounts are almost solely on the more expensive units.

So for example Line Kazak base points are completely unchanged but they get the new points costs for FOs, bigger guns etc. while units like the Moblots and Veteran Kazaks saw across the board points drops on top of the new points costs for FOs, bigger guns etc.

In other words, a 300pt swarm army might only see a 10-15pt drop but a more elite single Combat Group army might see a 20-40pt drop depending on the units and loadouts.

True, I've noticed that. Apparent rebalancing of horde vs elite. As I like the latter and our resident power player prefers the former, I'll be a happy panda next year :D

Actually, the super combat elites with high lethality didn't get much of a discount. Stuff over the 50 points usually stayed the same unless one of their gear got a huge discount.

So the mid-tier elites, guys around 30-40 points got the biggest reduction, and were usually types with 1-2 wounds, only 1 powerful weapon option, and limited defensive options beyond armor.

I think they realized that unless you had a bunch of defensive and offensive bonuses stacking, being mid tier like that didn't really give you much more survivability since most line infantry would just gun you down.

So you guys probably know it already, but for anyone like me who had trouble finding any info about this two-stage release, the profiles are now available for download here:

Scroll down to 'profiles.' Off to download them myself!
