Natural Selection 2 28mm True Scale Miniatures

by TallonHunteR » March 11th, 2013, 11:31 pm

I am, as a part of Unknown Worlds Entertainment's squad five initiative (community actively promoting the game), looking for and will be contacting various miniature companies such as Corvus Belli and Antenociti's Workshop to have sculpts and molds made of at least 1 marine skin(there are 3: alpha-preorder, deluxe, and standard) and the skulk. preferably the whole set of playable classes. If you know of anyone else who may be doing true scale miniatures, please forward the information.

what am i talking about? Natural Selection was a mod for half-life that was very popular. It has since been developed into a full blown game with its own engine and everything (NS2). The gameplay revolves around asymmetrical balance and a mixture of FPS and RTS style of games. if you would like to know more, or purchase this wonderful indie title, go to http://unknownworlds.com/ns2/ or http://store.steampowered.com/app/4920/?snr=1_7_15__13

I am also trying to gauge interest both in the ns2 community and miniature wargames/collectible community so as to determine whether or not there will be enough demand to sign a contract to have the minis made.

I have talked to the main PR guy for UWE (UWE.Strayan, formerly known as ns2hd), and he is amenable to the project.

Helping find other companies that do 28mm true scale is appreciated. If you have any experiences to relate with regards contracting any company to sculpt/produce a mini or minis

anyway, here are some images of the models from the game i am proposing having made into miniatures:

Please, if you are interested, please post your interest. I am trying to decide if it is worth it to contract a company to do this.

[edit] sorry pierzasty, it is part of a community initiative marketing thing for a video game. I like TT miniatures and I like NS2, and came up with this idea. The reason it is a bit vague is i really have no real idea what I'm doing, i just really REALLY want to get minis of ns2 marines as I love the asthetic of the game. if this is unnacceptable on the forum, i am sorry.

Sorry, even after the edit I am confused about what you want to achieve. Do you want to have minis of characters from your favourite game? By contacting companies that already make miniatures?

I see looots of legal issues and complications. Much easier it would be to sculpt it by yourself. Or find someone who can sculpt to do it for you. There are lots of tutorials over there on the internet.

Of course if you will use the official concept art you can't just copy the finished sculpt several times and sell it to whoever wants it. Because copyright infringment.

A contract to make the character models for collectors or to try a tabletop game spin off?

Mostly for collectors who must have everything NS2 (me), the 28mm true scale is mostly cause it looks badass and IS table top compatible if someone wants to use them as Alguacils, Imperial Guardsmen, etc. (also me)

well, what about contacting companies, which print 3d? If you could get access to 3d model from the game, maybe reduce some details,IMO it would be easy to "print" them.

Game models are low detail (for a moving definition of low), he would need the originals (if the workflow was that way, pretty common now) or, as workaround, apply the textures maps to get a denser mesh. Otherwise he risks getting a very nice polygonal model. And that is ignoring other requisites that printing has but rendering can ignore.

Anyway, if he wants to do this open, for everyone, etc... he better contact the company holding the rights, first of all. Then he can promote it around forums.
If not worth saving, is it worth rewriting? What is more, was it worth writing?

That would be the best option IMO.
