While I like some of the things shown so far, I really doubt I'll back this whole thing.

Nothing of the things shown so far are really that great: some more boxes, some more MDF buildings and structures, same old. I'm not that impressed. There is of course much more to come, so maybe I'll be impressed by that.

What irks me much more is the lack of professionalism AW has shown in the past few days. They have made it clear that they can't react to criticism without either acting in a pretty childish manner, or flat-out deleting everything related to it. This leaves me with serious doubts that they can handle the feedback they'll get during the KS.

I thought your comment was significantly more suggestive than Darnok's (which is still on topic, namely, the kickstarter), so I left it. Technically, you're right, though: it's on the edge. Shall we agree not to further discuss the topic?

I follow them on facebook and have been paying attention to the various threads and whatnot, but I've got to be honest I don't really have a clue precisely what is happening in terms of content.

There seems to be some stuff which can't happen without a kickstarter (dropships, big civvy vehicles), some stuff where maybe kickstarter economies of scale make the launch a bit easier and smoother (pre-coloured fabricated units). And then a whole bunch of other stuff which is the exact same stuff they have been putting out for years.

It seems a little bit as if there was a need/idea to run a kickstarter to make dropships and then idea snowballed and became an all encompassing thing. The result has been a complete stagnation in releases, presumably as all energy goes into the mythic kickstarter and stuff which is finished and production ready is held back from sale waiting for the KS. I can understand wanting to jump on the kickstarter gravy train but for long time customers with loads of their resin products (i.e. me!) its frustrating to see no real new releases in what feels like a year (I can't think of anything bar bases and re-mastered molds that has come out since I saw them at Colours last September).

Personally this kickstarter can't come soon enough for me. I'm not going to back it, as I don't support the ethos, but as soon as its done and over I'll start to see new releases in the store!

Yes, I always wonder about things that are minor (not just AW, all companies) and doable with whatever the company has, keeping a constant pace, and without having to offer discounts on top of what the crowdfunding plataform charges, and maybe pissing the shops while at it. Buying new machinery with the money, OK, makes sense, some guy ordering 20 masters then ordering all the mold making, too. Otherwise sounds just like a presale and adverstisment system.

Speaking of machines, they are waiting for parts for the big laser, so this one gets postponed to September at best.

And I wonder why all this is not with the other posts in the crowdfunding thread.

It could also be two engineers. And spam. Or one engineer and a brute to cart along heavy parts. And spam. Or engineer and apprentice. And spam. :P

Sesssh, it was the short way to say they got one machine down. And not down in the basement. :P

Well, considering how critical laser-cutters are to the process, I prefer the update that says, "parts are on order but are coming from China. This will delay things several weeks until the parts arrive, and then we need to re-calibrate the laser, which usually takes a couple days plus however long it takes the engineer to fit us into his schedule. So the whole Kickstarter is delayed until we get the laser back up and running."

In case you want a rest from the clean neat future, here's a trip to the messy gory past with the Carnevale Kickstarter. Last year they tried to make a Kickstarter for an expansion, which failed. This time they're basically relaunching the game with the expansion (Vampires and the Vatican) thrown in, and are already into stretch goals a couple of days in.

Carnevale was really made by the terrain they put together for it, though the minis are also really dang cool. Some 1" or 2" pink foam, covered in brick/stone texture, then buildings to put on top of the 'blocks', some stone bridges, and a few gondolas because Venice.

Makes me wish I had cash to back that KS, I'd love to get that game.

Been awhile since I posted one of these!

Hexopolis seems pretty neat, specifically the little modern art bits. I wish I could just get a lot of those and scatter terrain from these guys, as their buildings are a little... unimaginative?

Yeah, the large buildings are really bland. But I like the low, long, and skinny buildings. Nobody else is doing that.

TheXLC preprinted MDF KS, yeah, it was a bit confusing at first, "preprinted? not prepainted?"

Laser cut MDF plus papercraft... half good looking scenery for the lazy. Shapes are very simple, but "time to table" is hard to beat.

Image
I guess you can always paint the edges later. :v:

Spartan Games has done something similar, but the worst is that the scale is wrong. It's for Planetfall, and the parts are card and acrylic (not card glued to acrylic).

Art Crime Productions is launching a Kickstarter February 13, 2015. While ACP is a 15mm maker, the Vanir-class Dropship is big enough and scale-neutral enough to work with 28mm minis.

Image

And now some pics from DWArtist:
Image
It measures about 18x13cm and comes as a kit of parts - 20 resin and 13 metal - (the photo you see above attests to the great fit of the parts as it has just been slotted together without glue or blu-tak - hence the not quite aligned engine nacelles. It also lacks it's undercarriage, sensors and weaponry).

Some proof that it will work with 15mm and 30mm minis (the smaller mini is a 15mm from ACP, the larger is one of ACP's Valkyrie mecha, ~35mm tall):

Early birds 65, other waves 75, triple pack 150. Pity that you have to pay for the 15 mm interior, as the outer part looks OK for a mini drop ship in 28mm. Maybe you can find the seats a different use (they are separate from the body).

That Vanir dropship looks beautiful, but it's too small for Infinity.

Also, on a different note, I found this:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bu ... ci-fi-rpg/

The card dynamic should have been exploited with more courage, but the artwork should make Infinity sculptors think...

To me the Vanir looks OK with a couple of changes, which I guess are possible by good planning of the designer (or luck): the panel behind the cockpit can be painted as more glass or as escape hatch, the panel between the tails can be painted (and maybe even cut) to simulate a two part door instead of the single ramp. And then you get a hard to detect shuttle for 2-3 persons, James Bond style.

Eh, but that's the problem. It can act as a mini-dropship, but it's not believable as a transport for a team of Infinity troopers, and I don't even want to consider TAGs... Too bad, because, as I say again, I truly like the design.

I was lucky enough to get the Aliens dropship by Aoshima when you could get in on ebay for "only" a hundred dollars/euros. Being, basically, a collectible toy, it's metal, articulate and prepainted. Didn't think it would have soared in the 300-500 dollars tier in few years!

I was thinking in the sense of terrain, so if it looks OK, it's fine. It can be a damaged ship, or just waiting in a spaceport. Nothing in the sense of rules, which IIRC give you a fixed size if using the official templates...

Image
... and a joke size no less. This would be OK for something that just lands... using parachutes. But land and take over? Yeah... :high:

I think it looks perfectly fine as a stealth small squad dropship for Infinity. Think 4-6 man low observable dropoff vehicle. Not much larger than a Little Bird.
Assume top rear clamshells up, and it's great. We're not talking something the size of a Hind or Hip.

Little Bird doesn't require someone to crouch walk out the back though; its not the best scale fit for 28mm. I could almost forgive the tiny cockpit for the scale if not for that headbanger of a ramp. That said, excellent 15mm dropship.
