Oh shit, ladies and gentlemen. Its that time again... time for the best miniature kickstarter of all time, Part II.

Good lord!

That Kickstarter has been live for less than 24 hours, and it's ALREADY at $660k!

Now, if only I could find a spare $100 to pledge...

There is no such thing when you're planning to make a giant super fun DNDish game for your kids when they're old enough to play(it'll take me that long to paint all of KS I-II).

Also, it looks to hit a million in just over twelve hours.

Above 972K already. Looking at Kicktraq graph, it seems they did 948,591 the first day. 1 million must be hours away at worst.
If not worth saving, is it worth rewriting? What is more, was it worth writing?

It has slowed down a lot now, to just a third for the second day. Classic first day rush. Probably there will be a last day(s) rush too. Delivery depends in the pledge you manage to get, earliest promise is next September. With the first they learnt to underpromise and make multiple shipping phases.

Sucked in? I waited happily for a year for my last ones and got more than my money's worth. It also did over a million the first 24 hours, seeing as it started late morning central standard time and broke a million sometime after midnight.

It has slowed down as expected, but when that still means nearly two hundred thousand in a day... that means they did their goal six times today, easy. Its still pretty insane.

Well, after the ROW treatment I got last year it wasn't that much of a good deal, if you factor in the annoyance. It was still good, it just wasn't awesome. And seeing that 1. Reaper is now splitting the Vampire-equivalent into multiple parts (2 for now, more may come later), and more importantly, shipping will total $60+, I'll pass. I still have to paint Bones 1 anyway.

I don't really agree that they've split Core in half, but I can see how Reaper would be an issue for anyone not in America. A lot of the big problems with getting stuff out to people was the Longshoreman strike of 2012 though, something you really can't plan for when overseas shipping is a factor.

Basically what I'm saying is, the core set alone is hardly a rip off; you're getting minis at less than a dollar a piece already. No, its not as good a deal as last year, and yeah shipping is tough for all Non-Americans(as per usual). I'm also a pretty big fan of $1 + whatever add-ons you want if you just want a big awesome dragon or something, but not more mooks.

Longshoreman strike doesn't account for "you know, this is actually a donation, we're not obligated to give you anything" treatment though. There was some pretty bad stuff last time. And the first I've heard of any strike was when Bones 2 launched and they put up a cost breakdown of the previous KS.

I wasn't aware of them being shitty to anyone. Everyone I know, prior to this, was pretty positive about it all. I know that when I told them I was missing a couple of figs they gave me double their retail value as a coupon for their online store.

I heard a lot of good things about Reaper prior to their KS, but then experience verified them pretty badly. The donation thing was just an icing on the cake, what actually pissed me off was the shipping ticker thing that was supposedly counting only US shipping (blatant lie, I saw ROW locations in "last order shipped today", also we learned this story long after the ticker ended). Then when it ended, so did Reaper's communication with KS backers - as long as the US shipping lasted they were excellent, but the moment they stopped shipping to the US we were lucky to get one update a week compared to several just days before. Then the shipping date became a running joke as Reaper began sending out email answers of "We hope to have the ROW shipping finished *insert date 2-3 weeks later". Basically, not owning up to the situation that they DID have problems out of their control, and stalling and nebulous excuses made people rightly blame them for that treatment.

And 2x retail value is just PR to get "Wow they gave me more than they should, I can't complain now" from their fans when actually you're getting extra 3$ and still have to pay like $15 for shipping, so you have to order something else from their site to recoup the shipping costs, or just forget about getting your mini. But hey, I'm missing a Kaladrax piece, if they want to send me a coupon for $150 I won't mind :v:

As someone who bought a large pile of Bones minis on a D&D supply run (mostly because of their price, and because my local shop has stopped carrying Reaper metal minis), I'm not all that happy with the quality of these things. The plastic is a weird, soft, rubbery sort of plastic. The multi-part dragon I bought needed a lot of green stuff to fill in massive gaps, and even after a good washing, they still have large patches of mold release agent all over them.

Pier, I don't blame you for being annoyed; I was unaware of all this stuff. I am pretty aware of the double price PR move, but I was planning on doing an order for some civies for my infinity table, so no big for me.

Oreet, yeah, I've had some issues with them, but none with my bigger more solid figures like the dragon. Still, they're considerably cheaper than the metals, and I've had very little issue with painting them right out of the bag. Then again, I haven't even painted 1% of all the ones I have, so... :P

A good coat of spray-on primer will fix that right up.

Not yet a Kickstarter, but planned for March 2014: http://www.miniaturebuildingauthority.c ... tarter.asp

MBA makes some of the best(and most expensive) stuff out there, so I'm tentatively excited about this. I've always wanted to own a 28mm castle, and if the reward tiers are right... not to mention this is right around Tax Returns for the USA.
