Small announcement. Death came to collect Sir Terry Pratchett's soul. Terry Pratchett is the author of the famous Disc World Series and his work has touched me a lot in my personal live.

This thread is meant to commemorate this witty and brilliant mind. :)

Terry Pratchett helped me get through some awkward and depressing years, and continued to bring me laughter all through my life. The Discworld novels, and to a larger extent the Sam Vimes books have always been close to my heart; I'll miss him greatly.

Yeah. It was the first time I actually shed a tear for someone I did not know, or didn't know anyone related to him.
I think Discworld has been one of the few things that really shaped my current outlook on life.
I am very grateful to have an entire bookshelf of his work to read it over and over again until Death comes over to play a final game of Infinity with me (chess is out of fashion, even Death needs to keep up with the times, right?;) )

Ook. Ook-ook.

NOLI TIMERE MESSOREM.

'Tis a small comfort that he passed before the 'embuggeration' could do its worst.

Death keeps asking how the new hacking programs work, and if you'd please explain the AD rules again. And then he tables you.

Chess is not out of fashion! Millions of people around the globe play it, it is perhaps the best war game there is.

As for Terry Pratchett, I think I managed to get through two discworld books, but did not like them very much. But then I read how he struggled with Alzheimers at a relatively young age and that had a deep impression on me. He developed methods for himself that allowed him to keep on writing despite the crippling condition. He must have had great willpower. R.I.P.

Were they Rincewind books/earlier novels? Because I can get that; but the Guards!/Sam Vimes series was a real treat to read.

Rincewind were the first two books.
My favorite series is focused on Death, and his outlook on Life, although the City Watch grew on me very quickly.

@prophet,yes I know ;) I was only joking as I rather challenge him for a game of Infinity myself.

Well, Dutch once wrote how he beat Death in the game of Infinity.

It's been years since I read a Discworld novel, but they still have a special place in my heart. Thank you, Mr. Pratchett.

Same here. Didn't read any Discworld novels since my late 20s but recommended those very often.
Thank you, dear Sir Terry Pratchet, for many hours of fun and this special kind of humanism.

When I was surprised by the news I found I'd already said goodbye. Alzheimers is mean.

Still, thanks to a lovely man for all the stories. I named my cat after one of his characters.
