Impudent Mortal does Infinity

by Taylor » August 6th, 2013, 10:31 pm

Hi Guys,
I have a friend who has run a few successful kickstarters in the past, and who is well versed in laser cut terrain. He is currently attempting the endeavour of putting together an infinity table as part of a kickstarter he plans on running in the near future. The plan is to have 9 buildings in the set, along with 20 or so walls to work as LOS blockers, as well as some additional pieces of scatter terrain. The set, when finished, would cost no more than $400 (not including shipping). Do you think this is something that you guys would want to participate in?

You can check out his previous kickstarters here.

Cheers!

A whole table for less than $400 is pretty affordable, and I do like his terrain; just didn't suit any games I'm currently playing. Interested, but I'd like to see what kinda designs he'd have in mind.

I think $400 is a lot, really.

It would depend on whether I like the terrain, really.

$400 for a quality game table? Sorry, but that really isn't that much! BUT, that being said there are some things I would require if I was to drop that much money at one time with one company.

1.) Buildings- You say 9? Good number. At least one of the largest buildings he has or is going to make and you want enough variation to make at least two 2 story buildings.

2.) LOS blockers- 20 or so walls? Also a good number. Walls are a cheap way to get good LOS blockers and if done right (See Sharks Mounted Lasers walls) then that is cool.

3.) Scatter terrain- If I drop $400 in one place (Sarissa-MAS-Armorcast) I want some scatter terrain. It doesn't have to be a huge amount, but it should be substantial.

Sounds like your friend is on the right course. Wish him the best for me.

I guess it depends. Mine doesn't touch $100 at the moment, but it's all scratch build of course.

Anyway, I would be interested in seeing the combined set!

And that's the kicker.

I'd actually like to see that broken down into 3 smaller sets. Buildings, walls, and scatter all separate, but combineable in the KS. Then again, I dropped $150 in the East Asian Village kickstarter. Infinity is pretty much my only 28mm game, but I can't see the Japanese abandoning their traditional buildings easily.

So I think my general threshold for games is not more than $200 per, unless it's something entirely too damn cool (*cough*Robotech RPG Tactics*cough*cough*).

Walt brought his pieces up to our shop, and I have to say, the Bar and Pool are really really nice for Infinity. While they don' t have the detail or heavy-duty engineering of Warmill or Warsenal, they are very well designed for interesting line of sight and movement options. He definitely had 4 and 6" moves in mind as the pieces were constructed. The pool house in particular is good enough to design a table around.

I agree, I'm very tempted by the large buildings in that KS.

http://impudentmortal.com/product/paradiso-full-set/

I've seen these up close, Walt brought them by our LGS to show them off. Not sure if I'll be running Paradiso again, so I don't need the full set, but crates and consoles seem like a staple of ITS going forward. 6 consoles and 6 crates for a measly 18 bucks is a pretty good buy.

I don't know about you guys, but I vastly prefer a piece of terrain to a flat marker.
