Arachas paints Infinity (Corregidor p.6)

by Arachas » January 4th, 2013, 8:02 am

Hi all!

I've been looking forward to this: posting a log on our brand new forum! So here goes. :)

Recently my friends and me started Infinity. Most of them have never even played a miniature skirmish game, let alone paint miniatures! So before I start off with painting my own stuff, I've promised to help out a couple of the guys, first.

We placed a large order with Cho Konnit and it came in just before Christmas:

First up are my friend's JSA.

I talked him out of the default color scheme and went with predominantly red:

What do you guys think?

Looks like a very good start. What do you use for bases?

Just regular bases. The sand on top is a mixture of PVA glue, water and sand I got from a construction site. Nice and rough grains, makes for good texture.

Thanks for the comment!

First couple of Keisotsu done! Wow, the first minis in AGES I've really, really finished. Including basing and spraying varnish on them.

Here they are! Note the +/- unit badges on the shoulders: that's the Japanese sign for 11. That sounds really educated, but I got it from watching Bleach. ;)

Yes, you do. And then post PICS! Because: PICS or it DID NOT happen. ;)

Thanks for the comments, guys. Next up are a couple of Domaru Butai (sneak peak was in one of the first pics). I've also made progress on the Oniwaban, but considering it's hands-down the coolest model in the lot, I'm being very picky about painting him. Taking a lot of time, so far.

Fellow Yu Jing Brother!! You have done the Empire proud with these! The emperor smiles upon you and your awesome paint jobs! I noticed you did two different colors for their guns. One is purple the other a bluish gray. Which one do you intend to move forward with. I like both was just wondering which one you are sticking with.

Aaaanyway, on to your question, hehe. I actually intend to stick with both colors, mixed. I thought one color would be bland and my friend agreed. I don't even think we'll stick with just two colors. It was bring your own gun day in the barracks and stuff... XD

Ok that is a good idea. A little versatility in the coloration is a nice idea.

Good looking colour scheme. I'll admit that I went for the classic white armour, black trousers and red detail on mine in order to echo the Japanese flag.

Taking a break from the Japanese madness, I tried my hand at some of my Nomads. My theme was inspired by the latest Deux Ex game: grey with a solid yellow. Not so much a scheme used in the game, but more a representation of the overall pallet of colors used in the game.

So painting yellow sucks, as I've found out! Here's some WIP shots:

You need to paint the yellow areas a solid white first before applying the yellow. You may want to add a touch of white to your yellow paint as well.

Thanks for the tips. It's WIP, of course, this isn't the final yellow. There's definitely white underneath, as well as orange (for the full, fiery effect). Two more layers with added white, let's see where we end up.

I used mesh on the bases of some of my JSA. It gives cool texture with minimal effort.

Mind you, the JSA aren't mine! I'm painting them for a friend, whom I still owed a birthday present. :didactic:

My friends are playing JSA, Yu-Jing, PanO, ALEPH and Haqqislam. So I would say CA is definitely in the cards as my next army, after I finish my Nomads! DOWN WITH ALEPH! :nomad: :ca:

That's what I was thinking! I picked this up at IKEA (it's for keeping your rugs from sliding). It's still a tad rougher (in terms of the size of the holes) than I'd like it to be. But yeah, it does look cool! I intend to use it on scenery as well, to bring everything in line.

Do you have any links to that mesh? I use mosquito netting sprayed black, looks OK but not the effect I'm going for.

Thanks! Though I'm not quite satisfied with it. I'm considering a teal/grey scheme instead: something that's really different from regular Nomad schemes.
