Hacker Data Wheel

by SuperNewb » February 17th, 2017, 6:38 pm

Hi all!

Super silly question.

It looks like on many of the hacker models there are these little plastic wheels attached to their hand. Do they come in the blister pack? What I mean is, are those real or just put in the pictures to make the models look better.

Silly, I know.

They used to, but CB stopped making/including them a long while ago. The downloads section has files for them you can print on overhead transparencies and have the same effect.

That said, the effect will be nowhere near as nice as those photoshopped into studio photos :)

Not silly at all, those make hackers look cooler
Those holos used to be included on hacker minis at the beginning, but at some point they stopped doing it and instead uploaded them to the website as PDFs (look for "Holos") with the intention that you'd print them on transparent projector sheets. Then most people kinda just stopped using them.

But there's some of us still wanting to use them, here's a thread on the official forums discussing many ways to have them back.

Overhead transparencies are really flimsy, you may want to use some gloss acrylic varnish to stick the hacker holo to a piece of blister pack plastic. But the blister pack plastic is even more obvious around the edges.

Overhead transparencies are sold in different thicknesses. Thicker ones seem to be ok

Just my 2 cents...

A 2l bottle does very well for this.

...and it has a nice curve to it that I think looks nice.

Cut roughly to shape with chicken shears, and then finish with a very sharp hobby knife.

I think Nazroth did that with those eyefuckingly green Mountain Dew bottles. To good effect, too, but they felt too... solid for me.

Or use a compass cutter to get a much nicer circle. You'll have a center hole, but that can be of use too.
