Hahaha, true enough! 7 tries?! I'm not that patient, myself. I tend to not even really paint the eyes... I do white and then heavy wash lining.

Bit more colour on these chaps. Only the grey armour has any highlights/shade so far though. Trying to decide on colour for theguns. Have decided to paint the shoulder pads different colours for the different roles. So line infantry have yellow, heavy support, red, info war have purple etc.

I'll second the support for the categorized shoulder pads. Good way to give them a regulated feel.

Hmmm... what unti(s) should I enter into this? I have pretty much everything Hassassin Bahram and Bakunin available to me. Choices, choices...

I'm still in the playing through O:I and learning the rules stage, so I do not really have a mainstay list or army to pick grunts from. Yet!

Any suggestions/requests?

Looking good! Don't be afraid to add more models to your submission! Painting a lot of models is an achievement in-and-of-itself.

Do you happen to have the new Ghulam SWC box? I'd love to see more of the Ghulam HMG, personally. (Remember, I'm not the sole judge and you should simply paint whatever you wish) That said, the icestorm Alguaciles are also a pleasure to see and a little more rare than their PanO counterparts (pick it up, Nomads :nomad: !)

Just a head's up, guys! https://www.facebook.com/InfinityMayaCa ... 4582438784

MayaCast is doing their own thing for this season.

In case you can't view the facebook post:
If you listened in December we had mentioned a quarterly Painting competition for our listeners, well that time has arrived!! From here on out we will be awarding four lucky winners the coveted “Mayacast Masterglass” trophy! This trophy will have the season (Spring, Summer, etc) as well as your name etched into it, along with a special Mayacast logo. The example of our trophy can be seen in the photos on this post, Congrats to Jakob Andersson for being the Inaugural Winner. Details on the theme of each contest will be announced on the first episode of the starting season. We are hoping to make this a fun tradition, so I hope you all are as excited as we are about it.

But wait, … what about the 1st quarter of this year?? That contest begins today!!!
All who want to enter have from this moment until March 25th to submit your entries to either tom@mayacast.com or kip@mayacast.com. This quarters theme will be any model that has a silhouette value of 2. You will have to send a time stamped photo (no earlier than Jan 1st, no later than March 20th) of the model unfinished to prove that it was painted within this quarter, and of course a photo of the finished model. PLEASE send them both in the same email, so yes, send them once you are finished. This will make it easier to keep track of entries. Since this contest went up on the fly, you can submit time stamped photos of “in progress” models, they just can’t be completed yet.

Good Luck to all who enter!!!

Most grunts are S2, by the way. :)

Haha, sorry was definitely not fishing to try and get into bed with any judges! I have just been an Infinity lurker for so long I have so much unpainted/unassembled stuff laying about it is a bit overwhelming to me to pick a starting point. This campaign should help me out a lot though.

Here goes nothing…

Final shots of my Line Kazaks. The female was the first, and therefore had the most testing done on her - hence some of the differences between her and the other two. Most notably I used a more pure white for the eyes, and instead of red lines for the camo pattern is went with the 'blobs'. Also, the only bulbs I had for my light box were fluorescent - hence the harsh lighting. If I can get more 'true' pictures I'll replace these ones.

They aren't half bad :)
Maybe not perfect close-up, but really OK in normal scale.

I'd say you could use a more distinctive green for camouflage spots (I see you have green base color, then brown and green blots on it for camouflage purposes: this green should, IMO, be more in contrast against the base green).

On different matter - what will be the topic for February Painting Campaign?

That there, there will be pure wine and honey and sugar
Fill up the wine cup and place it in my hand

Hey there, Blind Sniper! Glad you found the thread. Unfortunately the Nisse does not qualify as a Line Trooper. Though, you are encouraged and welcome to post pictures of your WIP for critique and advice! I know you're rather new to the hobby, if I recall correctly, so is there any question you have regarding the hobby aspect? Hopefully we can help you from the very beginning.

@Errhile - The camo is actually green (the base coat), brown, and red. Specifically Army Green (WarPaint/Army Painter), Battlefield Brown (P3), and Red Gore (GW).

@Icchan - The flocking is a 'fine ground cover or some such that I bought from Micromark when I purchased my file set. Something very similar to this. Underneath that is regular sand.

@H1ghlander nice job on the painting, and tackling camo schemes. If I could make a suggestion, I would re-photograph these using a better background (at least for the group shot). The blue really washes out the green, probably because they are just too close on the color wheel, and so the background is fighting to be the focal point. Try to find a neutral grey or neutral to warm sepia shade to use. I believe this would really provide a better contrast and give the minis a nice pop.

HERE is some nice free photo backgrounds I use myself, taken from the photography thread on the off. forums. For your Kazaks, I think I would try the Warm-Dark or Nuetral-Medium, depending on your greens. I think you will like the result.

Michael is right, the background on your photos really doesn't help them.

I'd suggest white background, a sheet of printer paperbeing the easiest available one.
And, on DataSphere blog there's a text on photographing miniatures, you might want to give it a look :)

So finally I'am entering. I got Vanguards. My Morat army been waiting primed and based for a very, very long time. I am relatively new to airbrush, this will be the first time I use it for other stuff than terrain, vehicles. Done two TAGs before. I hope to get good feedback and advuce along the way.

I airbrush first layer dark purple, second layer dark green. Will do ehite highlights next and after that I will only work with brush.

Data-Sphere Painting Campaign

by BakuninLover » February 1st, 2015, 6:01 pm

I tried to find a good highlight but the airbrush took me for some kind of unexpected ride. When you are used to a brush you know how a color mixture going to look like but with my inexperience it's hard to tell with airbrush, the base color always shines through more.

I am not happy with the result, not near what I had in mind but I think I have to let the armor be finished. I could not even replicate this, even used inks, but luckely I will paint every unit in the sectorial different. Will add edge highlight to the armor and then move on to the rest with brush.

Any tips on anything I could do with the armor to imrove at this stage?

Thanks for the advice Michael and Errhile - I reshot the line Kazaks and I think they turned out better. For some reason these new pictures seem a bit darker, but the colour and details are more true.

Group shot looks great! Photography is just as tricky and makes or breaks the piece as much as the painting itself imo.
